I am having the same problem as SSH.  I have downloaded from the main site and the mirror, but still can't play the game.  I've read all the good reviews and am really frustrated now.  Any advice?

i just downloaded the game and unzipped it without any problem.  ;) so the main link works. i just saw that the mirror is infact not working, so i'll get in contact with the guy who is mirroring it to fix that. but the main link works. the file you downloaded should be 4,121kb. so if its not, it didn't download completely.

edit: mirror also now fixed.  ;)

So I played it through. Didn't get all the points but hey, it's a near rock solid game. Great design. The flat perspective feels joyously oldschool, and plays great. There are some minor inconviniences when you have to walk to locations before being able to click, but they are mild in comparision to the great gameplay you've provided.

Graphics are solid and well developed. You deliver with a nice style, and keep it throughout the game. Kudos!

The puzzles are mostly by adventure standards, only some might stretch the logic a bit too far. I got stuck several times, but mostly due to dreadful pixelhunting. Yes I know, some people might find that sort of thing challenging but I am not that person. Oh well.

The story, oh the story. A bit of anticlimax at the end, but upto that, intruiging indeed. I felt midly amazed by the plot presented, but you are ammediatly thrown into a mansion to explore, and then the extra dimensions of gameplay (badum-dish).

The music. Oh the music, and sound is very impressive. Certainly worthy of my eary attention! No complaints there!

All in all, a great game!
Three thumbs up!

Mordalles

thanks for giving it a go, and for the great feedback, 2ma2!  ;D
sorry about the pixelhunting!  ;)

Jhumjhum

Hi Mordalles!

It's a fantastic game with a plethora of locations & characters & a variety of mind teasing (but not irritatingly difficult) quests. The eagerness to find the pizza ordering guy kept me anxiously glued to it.

One of the best things is: You have made such a big full-length game but the file size is so small! True, you didn't have hi-fi 3D graphics but you proved that you don't need these to make a great game. The graphics were colorful and atractive in a unique way of its own.

The music was fantastic & suited each world perfectly.

I only have a problem with 2 things:

1)
Spoiler
The game had so many dead ends. I couldn't locate the loose rocks in the underwater area (didn't know they existed). I finished the London part & the armour part then I realized I must have missed something in the submarine part & had to play all of it again. Wish u had warned about dead ends or had something like "I can't go back yet" or "I don't have everything I need" message. Finally I lost 3 points as I realized I should have caught 2 fish in the submarine part after opening the icy water door. ARRGH!

2)
Spoiler
The ending. I was disappointed on finding all of it a competition. I was expecting a psycho magicianÃ,  who hated pizza delivery guys as he had become grossly overweight for bingeing on pizzas. So he wanted to torture & kill them. ;)

I didn't/don't mind about pixel-hunting. It was fun and none of the objects were too difficult to locate. (Even if I couldn't locate the rocks.Ã,  :-[) If you are an adventurea-gamea-fanatic you must have a keen eye for detail.

I'm eager to know what the ending might have been if I'd scored 355/355.
Was it essential to

But all said Duty & Beyond just happens to be a wonderful game & thanks for making it. Waiting for more from you! I'm also waiting for the third installment of the Mordy series.

Cheers!

thanks zoomer!  ;D thanks for the great feedback!  :D it really motivates me to make more games.

there aren't actually deadends. eg, the loose rocks in the underwater scene was purely extra (you don't have to find it to finish the game). i tried to add a bit of replayability (eg, getting full points), that there are more things to do than just finish the game.  ;D

your right about the ending, i like yours much better! ;)

nope, it wasn't essential to
Spoiler
use the harp with the pig to finish the game. it is essential to getting all the points, though.  ;D

AWESOME game!!!

I really liked every part of it. Haven't finished so far.
The graphics are so cute und the music fits perfectly. I especially liked the Introtheme ("duuub duuub duuuub dubb") ;D
The story is epic and the dialogs funny.

Although I found a bug in the medieval times. Sometimes I can't leave the hill near the pig. First I stood on the hill and picked up the axe and Piet walked in the air to the axe, picked it up and returned to the hill...strange ???

However: For me, it's the best AGS-Game I've played so far. No fun!
Can't wait for the next game!

BTW: Is the Music originally in MOD oder MIDI-Format?

Mordalles

wow, thanks, thegoonie!  ;D

scorposer made the music in midi-format from the start, i think, though, i don't know much about music formats, so i might be wrong.

thanks for that bug report.  must be the 3rd bug report in that room where the character floats. haha. i'll fix it right away.

I only have one thing to say:

Fun.

Funfunfunfunfun game to play. Couldn't stop it once I started, and right from the word go I KNEW I just couldn't let myself finish it without finding all gems. Bit of an eyesore at first, before I got used to it, but it cleared up eventually.

Fun. That's the keyword here. Fun game to play. And that's exactly why I play games, to have fun. Great game, congratulations!
