EDIT: I've just been informed that most of these comics were never released in english. What the FUCK is up with that!?
I feel sad for you people!

------------------

I have been bitten by the comic-book-nostalgia-bug. I've read some of these comics in the library as a kid and now I want to BUY them. Sad thing is, I've yet to find them on sale on any website as full collections, only some used copies, mostly in french, whereas I need either English of Finnish versions.

Please somebody help me, I am going mad and the librarian tells me some of their copies are either lost or on loan!

Glad this thread exists, if only for my q's about destroying PC equipment...

I had a HD failure earlier, then the power pack went whilst re-installing XP, and then I did something stupid and the power pack exploded. That's not the issue though. I can replace that - for about $100, but in the short term I'm worried about getting my AGS games transferred from a sata HD.

The issue is this: I've hooked up my years old computer which uses older HD's which are connected with the 4 pin Molex cable. The PC that died has SATA HD's. My AGS games are safe on one of my SATA hard drives, but I don't know how to get that HD to work in or just briefly for some transfer to another HD which is using molex.

How do I connect a HD using SATA to a computer using molex 4 pin connectors?

Is it as simple as getting a SATA > Molex adapter, like this:
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/20cm-scan-sata-power-converter-rb-414-4pin-molex-to-15pin-sata-%28normal-psu-to-sata-sataii%29

or am I going to need more than that? Any help is appreciated. Not had to do this before so I don't know if I'm asking the right questions!! Thanks :)

That's not enough, the 4pin cable is just for power. Notice the wide, flat cable next to it? That's where the data goes through. :=
I'm not sure if getting another cable is enough here, my guess is you'd have to buy a SATA controller card (because your main board doesn't have one).
Connecting IDE HDs to a SATA port on the other hand would just require an adapter.

Since you're looking for a short term solution though, buy that one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/USB-SATA-IDE-CABLE-ADAPTER/dp/B003Q97FIW/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1317157734&sr=8-5

With that you can connect any HD to a USB port, perfect if you just want to get data off a HD.

Edit: I've just noticed that the power supply seems to be really poor; this one might be better:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dynamode-USB-SI-C-controller-SATA-300-Hi-Speed/dp/B000LQ4WMU/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1317157734&sr=8-11

Thanks LeKhris, that's a great solution - woop! So that will definitely power the SATA HD when it's just sat on the floor, right? :) Thanks again though - the kits you've mentioned very much answer the short term problem!

QuoteOtherwise it worked a treat and allows the user to access data
from old surplus drives removed from a PC.

Oh answered...I see the reviews (and the power pack issues) - thanks for the heads up! :)

Why isn't this javascript working?

Code: ags

<body color="white" font="Arial" bgcolor="black">

<SCRIPT TYPE="text/javascript" LANGUAGE="JavaScript" >
function PrintLink(var name,var address,var description){
    document.write(' <li class="link"><h1><a target="_parent" href="' + address + '">' + name + '</a></h1><p>' + description + '</p>');
}

PrintLink("A Link","http://crazypotatojacobshouseofchips.net","My favourite chippy");
PrintLink("Wheeee","http://slidesaretotallysnide","Imitation playground vendor");
PrintLink("Link3","http://platesplatesandmoreplates.com","etc etc etc");
</SCRIPT>

</body>

The page is just blank. It's not li.link because that shows up fine when it's being written without being called from the function :/

TomatoesInTheHead

replace
Code: ags

function PrintLink(var name, var address, var description){

with
Code: ags

function PrintLink(name, address, description){

and it should work :)

NOW you're talking. Gaston Lagaffe BEST. COMICS. EVER. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaston_Lagaffe )

I wouldn't know how to find them in English, though. I've found them in German in the past. Belgian/French comics have a strong penetration in Continental Europe, but the English-speaking world is totally oblivious to them (except for blockbusters like Tintin, Asterix and the smurfs -- mainly because of the animated series for the latter). the wikipedia article says it was printed in Finnish.

@ Ouxx
Yeah, I edited my post later on. It seems most of these comics were never translated to english and it also seems the finnish translations are mostly out of print and sold out. I've found some used copies and am scouring webstores for more copies. It is not going well, though... :(

Here is my request for help: I'm looking for the title of a movie:
- It's less than 10 or 15 years old.
- It takes place in 19th-century Great Britain
- The whole story takes place in a countryside mansion
- It's during Christmas Eve, or maybe new-year's eve
- The master is away
- He left his intendant in charge while he's away
- The intendant is a clever but very ambitious man, with something dark about him.
- The master's daughter is in love with him, but she's a tad mad and hysterical
- The whole movie is a long conversation between the two of them -- a mix of seduction and arguments and violence.
- In the end he rapes her (I believe? I'm not sure?) and then she kills herself.

Please please please please please please please

Cinebook is (slowly) publishing some of the Spirou albums from the Tome & Janry era in English. Adventure Down Under and Spirou in New York are available now, and they just announced Running Scared (La frousse aux trousses) to be released next spring. Also, Kim Thompson from Fantagraphics is an avowed Franquin fan, and has said he wants to give Spirou another try some time (probably in the same format that Fantagraphics just released Gil Jourdan in: two albums collected in one hardcover book).

Other than that, there are a few fan translations (of variable quality) available, including quite a lot of Gaston gags, Spirou: Machine qui rêve and Petit Spirou: Dis bonjour à la dame. Some more stuff here: http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/tag/char:+spirou

WHAM

Thanks Snarky!  ;D This pleases me, I just hope Cinebook will get more ASAP!

Monsieur OUXX

That's cool. I'm a bit annoyed that Tome&Janry always seem to be the most attractive just because they have a "cool" graphic style... even though Franquin is clearly the genius here! But, eh, what can I do.

A question about proxy, might sound dumb, but anyway. I kind of have the idea, that certain websites are only available in certain countries. I also have the idea, that the site will notice where you are because of you IP. Then if I use a proxy, is this not for changing you IP to seem the way you wanted it to?

Like, the national tv of Finland shows the Moomin series on the internet service, but I'm in Berlin, so I can't watch them. Isn't the proxy settings of firefox the way to goof around with it? You know, to seem Finnish again. And the last question: how does this work?

Tabata

How about hiding your ass* (or equivalent) for example?  ;)

* (not my own choice of words, but it will be clear, if you use the link)  ;D

Tuomas

Not really no. I tried opening this http://areena.yle.fi/video/1316936722189 through the site you linked to but it didn't load.

I also tried a vpn connection through my university in Helsinki and should have been this 128.214.5.157, but it again complained that I have to be in Finland to watch it. Is there no solution?

Tabata

Now I am confused ::), because the site you linked opens for my (without hiding!) and I am from Germany  ???

I don't know anything about such things in special, but this is strange for me now, too

Edit:
Aaah, stop - not the video, sorry (it was only the first pic, but didn't start) - so you're right

It seems to me, that you can't use the free version, if you want to choose an IP from a specific country. There might be some other sites which allow it for free, but I don't use it often, so we need help from the others about this.

So is there someone who already knows such a site?

Tuomas

#839
Man, there's Finland playing against Sweden, and they're showing it for free, but I still haven't found a way in there, tried some Finnish proxy-lists, but na.

EDIT: apparently using my university VPN works on Mac, but not on my Vista PC. No idea why, anyone?
