Está genial, sobretodo gráficamente, espero que para la version final añadas el codigo para unhandled events y pidas más correctores para la traducción, pero vamos que está genial

i am certainly that you ve done a marvelous job as always
i will download it and enjoy it

thanks from all of us adventures gamers

I'll download too. :)

I proofread it, but it's hard, staring at a text file, to know if what you're correcting makes sense in context. :)

Monsieur OUXX

I really like the character design, in particular this Gestapo guy (the guy in black whose name I can never remember)

selmiak

cool stuff and nice graphics.
The rest needs more work. What I mean:
Bigger hotspots.
More interactions.
Better translation.
I didn't hear any sound at all.
When clicking use+Item and then clicking open I still have open Item with in the Actionline.
The small empty bag is placed in an inventory spot where it shouldn't be and leaves one inventory spot empty.

I'll play it shortly to see how the translation turned out.  But here's what I will say.

The conversation between the launder and Indy was really confusing to proofread.  I read it one way (that Indy was talking about Paul as if he had already met him) and though that was chronologically impossible, I corrected with that reading in mind because that's what the dialogue seemed to suggest.  I mentioned this confusion to Quo and he explained that Indy was talking as if he might meet Paul in some future travel and that my translation was fine.  --since that's not how I read it at all, I don't see how it could be fine.

But yes, syntax issues like that make this surprisingly difficult.  So I don't doubt that the translation isn't perfect.

selmiak

There are also some typos and letters that don't belong there in the speech. Even though I'm no native english speaking person I would volunteer as a second translator or for proofreading a second version of the demo or a second demo (but must be a third then I have a small ROTLA demo already on my hdd :))

Other than that I give up on the game. I have finally

Spoiler

put the one hold rope to somewhere near the fence and the other clothes but the other end is still hanging around.
I have the pieces of rope in my inventory.
When looking at the mast Indy has an Idea (me too) but I can't get the second end or another rope onto the mast to finally dry the dress and get rid of Ahmed. I can't knot the pieces of rope to the loose end.
All these interactions without Indy saying something or giving even a small subtle hint is also quite demotivating : (

Thanks to all  :)

About the translation, I would like to say that Batiste did a great job considering that he worked on a first translation made by me and that was pretty bad, I think this could cause confusion.

It is true that lack interaction, that is because I focused on everything that surrounded the puzzle and many things were left undone, I hope to fix everything in the next demo.

Indy's whip, the Chachapoyan map, a sand bag, Indy's SW17 and...  hmm... not sure what that last thing is.  A stone glyph of some sort?

Very exciting!  I'm hoping we get to look at the map as we would the Diary in Last Crusade or the Hermocrates.

You're going to be able to ACTUALLY USE the whip, like to whip things (and people)?

Finally, someone is actually making an Indy game with some balls.

Considering that the still we see with the whip is a scene that's actually in the movie, I don't find this all too shocking.  You use the whip to whip the rodent in FOA, to knock out a Nazi in Omar's house, etc.  You use it to uncork that hole in the ceiling in Last Crusade... there's probably another puzzle too that I'm forgetting about off the top of my head.

Shane 'ProgZmax' Stevens

Bah, FoA barely used his gun or his whip.  I want a WHIP button!

Jandemor

In the prologue you can use the whip at least 4 times.

Is difficult to know the length of the entire game.

For example: one of the beta testers took about 25 minutes to pass the first part of the prologue. The puzzles are fairly simple at first, the difficulty increases as you progress in the adventure.  ;)

Yeah, I also noticed that. Also, I'm not entirely sure, but to me, the head bobbing seems a little unrealistic. Kind of like it doesn't happen frequently enough.

Baptiste, it's nice to see that there's someone else here who's just as enthusiastic about this project as I am. Raiders was always my favorite movie, and I just know that it can work so well as a game. Would be great if they could get Doug Lee to voice Indy when it's done ;D. That would be a dream. Ah well...

Thanks for the support, we are working fast  ;)

Updated first post with "Persecuted", next "The Honeycomb"

Guybrush Nosehair

Looks good. Just out of curiosity, why is this game subtitled The Idol Project?

hansolo1970

it is called The Idol Project because it is the point  where Indy gets
the Golden Fertility Idol from the Hovitos Temple at the beginning
of Raiders...

quo_sp

Basicaly hansolo1970 gives the main reason   ;)

Another reason is to diferentiate from the other project of Raiders. Also at the beginning we need a code name, and finally Raiders of the lost ark is a icon of the adventure, and Indiana jones an idol for who like the adventure.  :)

Guybrush Nosehair

So I'm confused. You're planning on doing the entire Raiders movie, right? So will you piece everything together into one game when you're done? Or is this going to be episodic?

quo_sp

#89
We are doing the entire Raiders movie, and will be a entire game, not episodic. Right now we are working in the prologue part that will be completaly playable. The prologue will have more than 20 backgrounds inspired in the film, so will be relatively long introduction of the game, with a couple of diferent situations but inspired in the movie :)

That would make absolutely no sense.  It's the monkey's master who poisons the dates in an effort to kill Indy, and the whole irony is that he kills his monkey instead.

In a short while will be ready to download.

Darth Mandarb

So why not wait till you can actually post the demo-link?

I make this post because:

1) that type of post always bugs me ... there's no reason to post "will be available shortly" because that means it's not complete (as was stated!) and you should have just waited to post until it WAS ready and...

2) now when you make another post to provide an actual link (hopefully?) it won't be a double-post.

I'm not being 'rude' or anything... just expressing (what I would guess) would be all our aggravation at being told it's ready... but we can't try it yet!

:D

Sorry.. The demo is ready for a week, but if we were waiting for some bug appeared. It was not the case.

THANKS YOU GUYS OR THIS TERRIFIC JOB!!!

BaptisteTheFool

Pretty good.  Didn't take too long to finish.

There are some minor syntactical errors.  There is one line of text that I noticed wasn't translated at all.  Also, I question the point of labeling random walls and parts of the jungle that one can't interact with.  Kinda clutters things.  And some things (the sand for instance) aren't motivated as well as they might be.  If you've seen the movie, it's obvious.  But one would expect not to have to follow the film to solve the puzzles.  My only other critique is that the hotspot to flip the two stones over is kind of hard to find.

But all in all, very very good!  Enjoyed it-- felt like 1994 all over again. :)

Jandemor

Thanks to Quo to start the project, thanks to the Spanish BetaTesters, IndyEsp, Chaval-ot, Pak and Albert Webster from the "Indiana Jones Comunidad Fan Española" and └» Arj0n «┘, Lt. Smash and selmiak from this forum... And to all of you for your support...

We will continue with the game, and we hope to have it completed soon.

Thanks to all!!!

Nice little demo.  I particularly liked the music!

Some nitpicky stuff:

- the open screens (the company logo and the fan community graphics) are on the screen a LONG time and are unskipable (made me think something had gone wrong)

- It is a tad bit tedious to have to wait for the secondary characters all the time (watch them walk) at  the begining of the demo (you walk off the screen, then Sapito follows, then Barranca) it really slows down the game play

- the phrase "let's leave it" feels wrong to me... I'm guessing it should be translated to "Let's go"

All-in-all I liked the feel of it and think it's off to a great start!  Keep up the good work team!

Yeah, I agree with all three points.

Jandemor-- if you would like, I will fix the minor syntax errors for you.  This time, I promise I can be MUCH faster than on the first demo.  :P  ...of course there's relatively little that needs fixing this time through.

The opening screens can skip with "ESC" key...

;)

BaptisteTheFool - Don't worry.. we will continue with the game, and when we are closer to completion, we will re-make the translation process. Then come back to find beta testers .. ;)

One question-- what was the purpose of the first screen with the split-trunked tree and the branch?

It is a screen of transition. The beginning of the full game is different and has some other things more. The demo has some different things. ;)

That's my fault. It was no easy process doing the translation of the translation. I don't know who did the first translation (spanish -> english) but it mostly seemed to be done via google-translator (sorry, I don't want to offend somebody, it just looked like that). So to understand the logic behind these sentences, I had to play the game in Spanish and retranslate most of the English lines. So it could be possible that there are one or two lines, which I forgot and don't seem right/appropriate. ;)

All in all, it was really nice to be able to help creating such a wonderful game and bring in some new ideas that, apparently, got realised :)  And, if you want, I would continue my work as translator and "idea-creator" (;D) on the full game.

Yes, I had the same problem with the first demo.  Quo gave it to me already translated (which was great, since I don't speak any Spanish) and just asked me to fix up the syntax.  But that was a headache!  It was a large part of why it took so long, to say nothing of the fact that it was a busy time for me...

Thanks for working on the translation! :)

Lt. Smash

I totally understand... if you don't know any Spanish it's really hard to make any sense out of these lines. I had the advantage of having learned Spanish for about 5 years, so it was a little bit easier for me to do this ;)

No problem, I like to help on such a great game :)

I understood what I should do...

The inventory is very important..  ;D

Guybrush Nosehair

I'm really enjoying this demo. I don't speak Spanish, but I'd like to make an offer to go through the translations and reword things/improve the syntax in order to make everything flow more smoothly. What do you think? I've also just got some minor suggestions here and there you'd like to hear them.

(And I'm stuck at the beam of light ???.)

BaptisteTheFool

Quote from: grim107 on Tue 04/10/2011 21:11:54(And I'm stuck at the beam of light ???.)

Look very closely at an item in your inventory.

As I said before, the hot spot on this item is a bit hard to find...

Tabata

It was real fun to see the wonderful backgrounds and animations in the demo.  :D

One little thing I would like to be made in the game is the possibility to change to the next scene/room via double-click.
Also a hint in the manual, that some items are only to be scrutinized (map/stones) in certain areas would be nice, because it's not usual to examine the inventory in every scene all over again if you didn't get the clue.  ;)

Looking forward to play this game!
Very good work â€" keep up to this quality and you can't fail!

One question-- what was the purpose of the first screen with the split-trunked tree and the branch?

As I watched the whole movie again to find out what to do with the damned carved paving Stone, I found out that it is not a part of the movie, but all the backgrounds are really close to the movie. So guess who is running from the hovitos in this screenshot from the movie.

http://i.imgur.com/91k6Q.jpg

I don't know why the bushes next to the man with the hat look like a lion attacking him though. So if anyone can help me out with the carved paving stone I'd be thankful.
Spoiler

I already put it into the loom but Indy just looked around and nothing happened...

Cool!

As to your question...  Here's the solution...

Spoiler

Look at the stone while in the room with the light.  You'll then be able to turn the stone over using a kind of difficult to find hotspot on the side of the stone.
[close]

Suggestion for Jandomer and Quo...

For the turn-over hotspot that everyone's struggling with... how about a simple interface on the image to make it implicitly clear where to click, such as an arrow to click on?

Andre999

Great demo! Feels as professional as LucasArts own efforts.

However, I am stuck in the room with the idol. Can anyone tell me how to pick up the idol?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you to all  ;)

first to see the movie and then play the demo ....
its much to easier this way to finish the demo....

Thanks, guys, all your hints helped and now I have finally made it to the end of the demo.

Hi shse.

We are working in the next chapter, prologue is finished, but refining details. We have a new composer, Cristina Villanueva, that is performing a great soundtrack and midis.

A new screenshot included in the next chapter:

Actualy we are working in the university backgrounds too.

hansolo1970

Hmm what is it ? A Nazi headquarters building ??
i dont remember it from the movie.....

thats so cool ...something new and fresh!!! good idea!!

keep up the good work guys...

BaptisteTheFool

Probably the scene from the novel.  There's a scene in Germany where Belloq meets with Hitler that's in the novel.

What is new?

Hi shse, we are working hard, actually finishing the Marshall collage section.

We have an interview and review in the Retromaniac magazine, sorry but is only in spanish.

http://issuu.com/retromaniac/docs/retromaniac5

Page 44 review, and interview in pages 50 and 51
You can also see in the magazine old backgrounds, the begining of a new one and a new character.

Actually we are moving to Patan section in Nepal ;)

doctorfargo

Any chance of seeing a screenshot or two from the Marshall College section?  :)

The link to the demo seems to be broken? I get error 404 here: http://www.indianajones.es/videojuegos/raiders_aventura/rotla_demo_eng.zip

EDIT: I'm totally confused: I get a completely different (non-broken) download link after I use the automated translation link on the page.
- The original page says: "Download Demo of Raiders of the Lost Ark (Tanis) - (3 Mb)" and there is error 404...
- After clicking on "Translate the remainder of this website" it says: "Download Demo of Raiders of the Lost Ark - (16.7 Mb)" and it works.

EDIT 2: Haha I've found a way to access it: http://www.teckelstudios.es/files/ROTLA%20DEMO%20Setup%20(spanish).exe

Such attention to detail, Quo!  Love it!

You including the "love you" lashes and the kid putting the apple on the desk too? :P

...I can almost picture an apple as a great item for some such puzzle later on in the game.  Sorta like the spoiled mayo in FOA. :P

LOOK AT APPLE
"Hey, there's a worm in here!"
*Worm added to inventory*
USE WORM WITH FISHING HOOK
"That does the trick, now to lower it down..."

...or something...

Very good! But I'm afraid that Indiana Jones games usually suffer from a terrible doom, that sees that none gets ever completed! I hope your project is a different case.

Just a couple remarks:

The demo doesn't have install options (mainly install path), people don't like that.

English translation?

ps. graphics are top notch!

I love to see how it progresses, is that you are going to make history and I want to give you my congratulations. I was playing with a friend to your DEMO some time ago and it is amazing.

So at the end of the travel video there's a couple frames of something...  Took a screen grab, dropped it into Photoshop, adjusted the levels and VIOLA!  A very low-quality image of Nepal!

I hope Quo and Jandomer don't mind...  I'll remove the screengrab if they do.  But for the time being, here's a low-quality peek at Nepal!

Looking good!

Please though - when you translate the final game into English - get some good translators!

Too many fan games end up looking something like this:

Sallah: look Indy,! Nazi's,! Our down There and our going to shoots us!

Indy: Ohno!s!!! Better hide we should!

(By the way, I'm willing to help with proofreading the English text)
