There's a Greek cartoon over here called "Ουκ αν λάβοις παρά του μη έχοντος" ("you can't get what you want from one who does not have it").

The story is pretty much as follows:

The Greek philosopher Mennipos died 2300 years ago, and as it was customed, he was thrown into Hades by Mercury. In order to do that he had to cross the Styx (?) river and pay a silver coin, which he didn't have at the time. So he was thrown back into life, when he claimed the above Greek quote.

In todays time, both Mercury and Death are both struggling to find Mennipos a single bloody coin (a euro at this time), but it's impossible to do since Mennipos is constantly running into trouble. Strikes, problems, dying constantly (and being thrown back to life since he can't cross styx).

It's hilarious and in all honesty one of the best cartoons I've seen since Southpark!

Persepolis
Waltz With Bashir
The Illusionist

Those are awesome movies, but they are not funny if that is what you are looking for.

I'm so glad someone mentioned FMA. Some really great moments in that series!

I'd say Cowboy Bebop, almost anything on Adult Swim, and if you can get it, Outlaw Star is pretty great too.

Also, when my little cousins are over, they watch Spongebob, and I was laughing with them at one point. Good thing or bad thing?

I'm surprised that I saw most of suggestions here. Didn't knew they were intended for adults, though I didn't really cared.

I can suggest few good ones (in my opinion) if you like Japanese stuff.

How about MTV's Spicy City or Aeon Flux? Heavy Metal as well?!

I would have to say "Superjail".

Agreed on "Superjail!", it is visually stunning and the characters and plots/sub-plots are wonderfully ridiculous.

"Invader Zim" is an old classic that was targeted for kids, but really only adults enjoyed it.

Quote from: CaylinLumpnutsFirstly i should point out that when i say 'adult cartoons' i mean 'cartoons intended for adults', not porn.
I love your marketing strategy though. No doubt people are going to enter a thread with the subject line, "Adult cartoons", so kudos to you, Calin.

I actually thought it was going to be a discussion about adult cartoons (of the porn variety), myself, which automatically sparked some curiosity. Would be interesting to read everyone's take on cartoons having "TEH SEX" ;)

I think it sets a bad example for young cartoons.

Where do you think the young cartoons come from? (Hint: It ain't a cartoon stork! ;) )

I haven't read over all of the posts here, but I saw Cowboy Bebop and I must agree.

I'm also, as I'm writing this, watching Home Movies, which is a bit of a niche style of humor, but I quite like it.

Oh, and, I saw on Looney Toons (Merrie Melodies, not that new-fangled crap), Bugs Bunny said the line, "I've seen better heads on a root beer." As a child I never would have gotten that joke. I think it was mentioned that a lot of cartoons have jokes that are aimed well outside the range of the show's actual target audience, but I absolutely love it. :)

I agree with the top two, though I haven't seen the Illusioist yet. WWB is more harrowing though than Persepolis, in my opinion.
Why is it called 'after dark' when it really is 'after light'?

I recommend The Maxx. Dark and weird escapist cartoons ftw! :)
There should be an adventure game about it too ;)

mkennedy

They got new Futurama starting this week on Comedy Central, and the censors over there are a lot more lax then those over on the Fox network.

moshboy

I'll go with Drawn Together season 1 and Salad Fingers (and anything else by David Firth because he's awesome).

The Spawn animated series, considered superior than the source material by most. 18 episodes of awesome ending with a cliff hanger just as it was getting too good for human eyes.
