Tabata

  ... a new colorball is on it's way â€" hopefully you have some time and desire to participate.

This is the shape to deal with:

Now what to do with it?
I'd like you to fill the shape with something that has a clear referrence to ...

You are allowed to rotate the shape, color the outline and use as much colors as you like to fullfill your task.

The voting will start at 08.01.2012 (forum-time).

Show your imagination and have fun!

EDIT:
... and finally here are the trophies:

So it's all up to you now

btw.

I have no idea.

The instant I saw that I thought 'Pirate Hat that mutated and grew a mouth traveled to Egypt and collected a scarrabe beetle' That's one man's explanation, what's yours!

Tabata

Seems to me, that your admiral's hat got a scarab-curse from the mummy after robbing a pyramid,
so it has definitely an egyptian touch
... and I wouldn't touch it for sure! It's cool spooky!

ZapZap

(2x)

Egyptian Kitten God, with lots of servants dedicated to make him purr (OK, it's not egyptian egyptian but well...)
"Loose ends have a way of strangling you"

@Cleanic
I see quite clearly an Egyptian symbol, so there is definetely an Egyptian reference and it's also a good idea!

Pharaoh Atabat's Death Mask:

@Arjon
A cool idea well done!

EDIT:
A big thanx to all of you, who already participated!

At first I thought about adding a second shape because it seemed very difficoult, but hey â€" there is such an incredible amount of fantasy in this community! â€" It's near to unbelievable!

Since an other shape obviously isn't neccessary, I was able to take some time for the trophies. They are now placed in the first post, waiting for you to be picked up.  Hope you like it!

Still I'd love to see even more entries. There's a lot of time left for those, who aren't in the right (egyptian) mood yet .
Let your imagiation flow and show us the possibilities.

selmiak

This is a slightly deformed turtle from the fertile lands of the the nile. After the nile delta was flooded again the turtle was washed inside the land and got so deformed at it hit its head and other parts on several old stones... but as you can see it is still happy.

Tabata

@Selmiak
Sooo sweet! Oh, what a lovely unique creature!

AnasAbdin

This is my firstest AGS forum competition entry...
I hope AGS 320x200 backgrounds are welcome here  :-\

and excuse me... The shape of The Egyptian God Raa' -the sun- should not be rotated, outlined or touched... Humph

arj0n

@AnasAbdin

Welcome in the forum competition sections ;)

Nice entry you've done but it doesn't completely fit this competition.
Thought it would fit perfectly in the Background Blitz competitions:
-This one was closed on 16 Dec  2011: Click
-And this one is the new open Background Blitz where you can enter: Click
You can find the info and compo rules in the first post as usual.

Really like your entry, very retro-ish  :)

Tabata

@AnasAbdin
You are very welcome with your well done egyptian background to help getting the participants in the right mood.
It's like an own promotion poster for the shape of this colorball competition that all the candidates have to deal with and are not allowed to leave.
Thank you for sharing!  :-*

... and of course you are still allowed to come up with an own contribution for this competition as well.
Just don't cross the line of the given shape   but the most important rule of all is to have fun by participating ;)

Hopefully you decide to give it a try - I would be delighted!  :D

AnasAbdin

@Tabata
thanks :) I just wanted to do something fun with the interesting shape... not necessarily to be competing just to pull a coupla laughs :)

selmiak

@Anas:
I see what you did there! Just submit the whole shape filled with yellow. Then tell the story and subtly get the complete image in there somehow to explain it better. Would be so cool if you win with the shape just filled with yellow, by now my vote oscillates between the yellow sun shape and the kitten god :D

AnasAbdin

@selmiak

if you insist...

Little did they know what the night of Giza was holding for them...

I vote AnasAbdin!!!!! GENIUS!!  ;D

EDIT: first time someone -in these kind of competitions- uses the shape as background-related sprite! The yellow shape can be used as an object sprite as well. This may lead to a new category guys!!!

You did pull a laugh at my face.

Sorry for the unnecessary explanation about the compo's b.t.w., I didn't knew you did know. ;)

redMatter

@AnasAbdin: Very cool! I just love anything you draw! and this one is so original!
my vote goes to AnasAbdin DAH!  :=

selmiak

you people already voting realise that this competition is running until next year and until then it could be that even more entries arrive. Even you could create some. So there is no need to vote now already.

PassionatePatty

@selmiak:

next year is after 3 days  :D
besides... unless someone comes up with an original CONCEPT then my vote goes to AnasAbdin... with all due respect to all the other sprites!

NickyNyce

Out of respect for the people that made entries, or want to, and the person that is hosting the competition, why not wait till the voting time starts. But none the less, it's about fun, so I mean no disrespect to anyone. I really like what Anas did, very cool, shame that it kind of breaks the rules though. Perhaps in a different competition  ...hint ...hint

IMO ... rules matter  ;)

Tabata

It's nice to see such a lot of life in here and of course AnasAbdin is now a candidate with his (separated) God Ra since this entry fit all the given rules now.

Just to let you know (as it is told in the first post), voting will start not before the 08th of Jan. (unless there won't be an extention given to someone who ask for it).
I will tell you when it starts in a seperate post, so noone will miss it and everyone is invited to vote for his favorite entry. All the votings given after that post will be counted.

Before that, there is much time left for more entries to come ;)

I still hope for to see all those creative ideas

Yes, I am greedy!  ;D

arj0n

My second entry and I hereby encourage everyone to make a second entry since Tabata is a self-declared greedy CB host!.  ;D

The magic ritual blade used during the mummification ceremony process of Pharaoh Atabat.
Pharaoh Atabat must have been a great ruler cause on a closer look you can see the ceremonial
hieroglyphs of four deities, guardians of the gates of the underworld, shown on the knife.

Darius Poyer

It's an embalming tool

PS.
they REALLY don't look like that.

Tabata

       YEEEHAAA!    . . .

cool tools  *shudder*  ;)

Edit:

Tabata

Thank you so much for all the nice entries!

Today is still some time left to come up with your egyptian idea(s) of how to fill the shape!  ;)

To be fair and clear I want to repeat, that the voting will go for the entry and not for the Candidate.
Arj0n, since you have been so kind to gratify the greedy CB host by doing a second entry you are allowed to decide, wether you want both of your entries in the voting. If so, there is nothing else to be done. Otherwise choose the one, you want to have set in the voting and post your decision (or add a little corresponding note to your chosen entry).

So if there is someone else who also wants to do a second entry â€" you are very welcome to do so!
Of course you can choose in that case, if all of your entries (or which one) you want to have in the voting, too.

As you like it -  the main thing is still to have some fun together!

Tabata

Time has come for the hardest part of this competition!

All participants came up with wonderful creative ideas, filled the given shape nicely and have a referene to egypt!

So now it seems more like a matter of taste to choose one of them â€" but it has to be done. The best using of the shape, most interesting by idea and style ... Which of the entries will be your favorite?

VOTING!!!         VOTING!!!         VOTING!!!

Here are all the official entries of the candidates that can be voted:

  No 1    a cursed snappy hat by Armageddon                No 2    a purring kitten god by Cleanic

  No 3    Pharaoh Atabat's death mask by Arj0n             No 4    a (slightly) deformed turtle by selmiak

  No 5    Sun God Ra by AnasAbdin                                  No 6    a magic ritual blade by Arj0n

  No 7    an embalming tool by Darius Poyer

Everyone is allowed to vote for his/her favorite entry!
Please post the Number of your favorite one and if you like, tell us why you have chosen it.

Armageddon

No 4 by selmiak for the nice color and shading.

PassionatePatty

No 5    Sun God Ra by AnasAbdin
The idea itself is a new category. I think this is the simplest shape submitted in such a competition and I love what it represents: Ra, God of the Sun... besides it's literally HAWT!  :P

cat

Obviously, I have to vote for Cleanic's cat (No 2). Because of my name, because the cat was a very important mythological animal (godess Bastet), because of the clever use of the shape and because it is simply well done.

arj0n

AnasAbdin

can I vote for all the sprites? They are really great and show a lot of creativity  :-[
but rules are rules (rules are made to be broken though)... ugghh ok ok

I love these the most [and equally]:
No. 3 Pharaoh Atabat's death mask.
No. 4 a (slightly) deformed turtle.
No. 7 an embalming tool.

I will close my eyes and choose randomly on my keypad until I get either 3,4 or 7:

*puts finger on keypad*
*closes eyes and moves finger around until loses sense of direction*

3

ok my vote goes to No. 3

NickyNyce

Nice entries everyone, shame you can only pick one.

I'll have to go with #1 ...Armageddon...The Scarab was the cherry on top for me

Darius Poyer

I'm going to vote for number two, it's got a lot of character.

Kimbra

No. 5 Sun God Ra. It is so Egyptian and a very smart@$$ idea!
Love the cat though but my vote goes to No. 5!

ZapZap

"Loose ends have a way of strangling you"

~TongueSplit~

No. 5
reason? how about three:
surprisingly breath taking
elegantly divine
and yet it's the simplest sprite ever made in such competitions.
simplicity is God,
Sun God Ra'
Ancient Egypt
period

Moderator disclaimer:
Although this competition was held long ago and may be forgotten by now, AnasAbdin's entry has had its winning status revoked. We have determined that the voting hasn't been carried out in a fair fashion.

Our competitions and activities don't involve money or perhaps world-wide prestige, but we still demand fair play. This is the first time we've ever retroactively disqualified a competition entry, and we hope it's the last.
