Gabarts

I've started the project with the idea of learning something about AGS and trying to create my own LucasArts adventure...
Well, I'm very happy, and also with your help I managed to create this simple DEMO to play. The most challenging part of course was the coding and make all working with the script, but I enjoyed the Logic 8 Midi music part :)

As I've said... it's a simple little DEMO (it's my first try)

This DEMO is in italian language but I hope one day to finish the game (this is very hard but not impossible...) and make also english translation.
Thanks

You will find more details in this work in progress website:   GABARTS Digital

The DEMO is outdated, check the link above, it contains the full game playable (ITALIAN language only at the moment, working on the translation).

Thanks!

Does "e l'Oro di" translate as "the gold of"?

an Urpney

"Oro" certainly translates to "Gold" - remember that gold flake liquid in Grim Fandango?
Born to the sound of marching feet,
Trained as a military elite.
Each of us drilled and singled out to be,
An Urpney.

Eric

To be precise, it's "and the gold of."

"e" = "and" in Italian
"y" = "and" in Spanish
"et" = "and" French

All pronounced the same, based on the Latin "et."

Gabarts

LOL :) I've used "Oro" since the very beginning (didn't even noticed) but I can always change it in "Tesoro" (more appropriate maybe) which is the same "Gold"... I've noticed a bug that I haven't corrected :) the X spot where you find your wallet need to be removed once the action is done. I will put a longer DEMO with cutscene later on.

Hey cool! These projects in the style of early 90's LucasArts are those who cause me more feeling. I know that there are things with a very worthy and amazing, quality with paragraphs graphics very elaborate and modern, but... no, everytime I see something like this, my sensitive fiber suffers... I love! The best of luck and you're already telling us more things, Italian friend!

Gabarts

Thanks! yeah, the adventures out there nowadays are very elaborate and often meet 3D (that personally hate for an adventure game). I mean, I remember playing "Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine" or "Escape from Monkey Island"... I completely lost the original feeling and passion. When I replay some old classic of LucasArts, it's like see a great picture, an amazing piece of artwork that I cannot see on 3D productions. I haven't played many adventures in these last years but last one was "Machinarium" and that was very very good.

I hope to put together more and more graphic materials with my game and then ask for some coding help next...

Gabarts

I've started working on the 1 cutscene where you actually can see the place, the time and the funny Marcus Brody who is going to send an important message to Indy, and finally you will know where the Adventure actually begins... I've changed the original plot to make Indy the only player but I'd like in the future (if I'm able to do it) to add the nice 2 players interaction.

Gabarts

I'm still alive. Since I'm doing all by myself, when I get some inspiration and will to make some progress, the Indy adventure comes back to life.
I've drawn all the Venice part sequences and I'm creating puzzle design and animations for this part. Music are also in progress. Thanks AGS for giving me some fun again... :)

CaptainD

Glad you're still working on the game (and glad you're still alive, of course!)

AprilSkies

It's wonderful to see an Italian fellow developing such great games!
So happy you're going on Gabarts

A little preview of the development. Small moves, Ellie, Small moves... oh wait that was a movie... :)

Mandle

Looks amazing! Nice Contact reference there as well!

Gabarts

Thank you :)

The English translation will start after finishing the chapter. Of course some guys of the italian forum will help me, my english is good but there are some experts outta there or here maybe.

The whole game is kinda impossible to finish in reasonable time, but I'm thinking to release single chapters to play. Then at the end all will be joined in 1 full game, hopefully :)

I'm pleased to announce that Chapter I will be out soon, I'm planning to make a dedicated web page also. The game it's in italian language only at the moment, but an english translation will come as soon as possible once the Chapter is out.

Thanks

Doesn't matter.. will learn Italiano for this :-D

AprilSkies

E viva l'Italia.
Of course I'd be happy to play it in italian, but Gab, if I can give you an advice, release the english version ASAP. A lot of people will play this pearl!

I've also implemented an IQ system based on certain items and actions to solve the adventure.

Thanks April (I never sent the file because we still have to get to the riddle of the final chapter :), hehe) Incidentally I do it as a hobby and in recent months I have not spent much time ... but I would not know for translation where to start. In the sense I hope there is something from within the program to speed up everything, otherwise you have to translate string to string!

I tried to do a little 'to me, more than anything else to preserve a minimum of surprise. Of course, after a while 'beta-testing there will be bugs to be corrected! But that will settle gradually. The puzzle design is medium-high difficulty but the puzzles have a defined logic. Overall it should be fun :) I also added a score IQ

edit by darth - please post in English, or at the very least provide the English translation, thanks!

AprilSkies

:D

I'll help you with the translation ;-)

And I'm sure we'll find a lot of proofreaders (correttori di bozze) here in AGS community.

POST DELETED ABOVE

This isn't the critics lounge!  If you want to offer the advice, send it via PM or wait for them to post in the CL asking for advice!

Gabarts

I'm happy to announce that the italian version of the game is completed and playable! GABARTS Digital, anyway before providing an english version of the game, I need some feedback, beta-testing.
It's a freeware project, hope you will like it. Thanks Chris for helping me in the past years with his forum answers and AprilSkies who gave me the code for my final enigma!

Working on the english translation

Guybrush Nosehair

This is fantastic news. How long would you say the game is? If it's more than just a few rooms, this would be the first real Indy fanmade adventure game to ever be released.

Complimenti :)

Gabarts

Thanks guys. The longevity of the game is an aspect that would be of course very important when you are talking about a nice adventure game. Unfortunately at the moment I'm alone doing this. Not that I don't want a Team, but I've always considered this like a test to see how far I can try with AGS...

The first chapter is not so long, but is challenging for sure (puzzles and items are not immediate and require at least some time to get the solutions).

I really hope to complete the english translation very soon, 50 % DONE but I'm waiting for some mother-language to check it.

It's non profit and freeware of course, but when I will work again on the adventure I will need a programmer assistance (many thanks to AprilSkies that helped me out) Because I'd like to include some more tough puzzles in the game. In the next chapters you should see Indy escaping from an airplane, travelling in Mongolia to reach Ulan-Bator, fight some soldiers, and of course... find the treasure! :)

Cheers

Monsieur OUXX

Oh boy do I want to play this game. Translate translate translate translate! Also if the game is cool I can translate into French!

Would be nice in French! My cousin lives in Paris since 8 years now... I bet he can help me too :)

I tried the demo. I just have a little question:
Why are the 'intro' and 'map' videos? They didn't have animations that aren't manageable with code.

IMO it would take less megabytes and maintain resolution if you created rooms instead :-\

You are right man... but, who will script that for me? :) Is been very easy for me doing that in flash instead... I don't think some megabytes more is a big problem nowadays.

That is a very interesting paradigm in AGS. Here is not the place to discuss it, but Gabarts if you start a conversation about that in the corresponding subforum I'd be very interested in knowing your recommendations. For example, did you do some research for a lossless compression codec? Are you using the out-of-the-box AGS Ogg/Theora functions or did you use a plugin? Did you see my private message about switching the game to 32-bits? Etc. (not here please -- in another subforum)

EDIT: I've found a blocking bug
Spoiler

I'm in Venice.
I've taken the rododendro, the mollice di pane. I've given the Hemigway book to the fascist and went to the dock (with the gondola). I pushed the pole until I got the fish. I went back to the first screen of Venice (the one with the bridge). Then I went back to the screen with the fruits merchant.
Problem: the walkable area that was occupied by the fascist is disabled again, as if he were still there. But the fascist is not there, obviously. Therefore I cannot go back to the docks. It's a blocking bug I thing.

Finished! Nice little 1st chapter. :-D
Even with some frustrating pixel hunting.

A little suggestion, change the fruit seller's talk to SayBackground, as it's a bit annoying to be blocked until he is finished with his chant.

Spoiler

There was a Hemingway Book? Guess I missed that one then. (roll)
I had to use the password...

Sorry for the late answer.

Didn't notice that bug, I need to replay it to check. Thanks for reporting it.

Meanwhile I've updated the page. I've tried to switch to 32-bit but I got some problems with some sprites... :(

I will try to make some fixing as soon as possible, before english version is out.

PS

Just for curiosity, how much did you scored (both Cassie and Monsieur)? :)
