Why doesn't anyone use the text parser?

I'm gonna bump this because I've got a LUA parser engine (which I'm using for making text adventures in a WXLua wrapper window displaying html output), and I've been looking for some easy way to make a nicer\fancier GUI, something like that Japanese visual novel screenshot posted above. Something that looks like an old CGA monitor screen, with occasional glitches and twitches. Maybe using AGS, or maybe Love2, whichever is easier to make that sort of thing.
I'd be much interested to join resources in making a game.

One of my first games (Counterfeit) used the text parser.

Though I wouldn't play it if I were you, it's quite bad and the parser is pretty dumb haha. Oh well, I had just turned 14 when it was released. Good times!

I just came across HELP! the game, which is IF. I haven't played it, though.
And there is of course the gargantuan IF database: http://ifdb.tads.org/
