Baron got it also!

Okay, here is the answer stated clearly, but not the exact solution just yet:

Answer: It took Jane 9 months to find Mike.

Here's the complete solution of the Jane And Mike riddle if anyone still needs to see it:

Spoiler
The first letters of each word in the middle sentence of "Jane Found Mike At Midnight Just Joking And Smiling." are the same as the first letters of the first 9 months of the year in English: January February March April May June July August September.

Hence why it took Jane 9 months to find Mike.

Before anyone says the riddle was too hard/unfair: Kweeper proved it wasn't by solving it without hints (Kweeper even added up the exact number of days between January and September (excluding leap years) in his winning answer.)

Uhm...okay. would never have guessed it. (roll)

For me, once Mandle said to focus on the middle sentence, something about the phrase 'just joking and smiling' seemed a bit off and I knew the words must have been chosen for a reason other than their meaning as a sentence. That's what led me to find the solution.

YES!!! That's exactly what I thought when I wrote the sentence: That it was just enough "off" to seem a bit weird but maybe not enough to draw the attention that would bust the riddle outright.

I never would have either.

And I was prepared to give massive hints until:

Kweepa proved to be a genius and solved it without any!

That was proof that the riddle was pretty solid and could be solved as it stood.

And Kweepa told me in PM that it was a nice "Aha!" moment when solved, which was what I had hoped for, so I decided to just let the riddle stand for a while until the actual solution was released so that maybe others could have that same kind of fun moment.

Sorry if this annoyed anyone in the meanwhile.

Yes, that was the chink in the puzzle's armour for me too!
Now, let's have another!

Probably a pretty easy one I just wrote so please hide answers to avoid too many early spoilers:

They raised my siblings and I with great care,
When they took us away it was fair,
But then they brutally bashed us,
And in wooden prisons they stashed us,
Years later we were bought by some mayor.

What were we?

CaptainD is the confirmed winner but may be obscuring his answer soon.

Sorry, but I'm just interested in how easy or difficult it is for people in general to solve riddles.

And this doesn't require outside knowledge?
Seems like a world history quiz/puzzle crossover given the last line... ???
(I like the format!)

No outside knowledge needed as you probably already know now seeing as you answered correctly in PM... (laugh)

Yup! Well done to you and also to CaptainD and Kweepa!

Spoiler
The reason it ended with "bought by some mayor" was to infer that the wine was of fine quality and expensive and also it was the only thing I could think of to fit the rhyming scheme...

Billions of us are thrown away,
By everybody, every day.
Yet noone ever finds us lacking,
Until Death comes a rapping.

What are we?
