Total destruction using only three letters and a number?

OK, even I know that wasn't remotely correct ;)

No, nobody got it right.  You were on the right track before, it is only a word meaning "total destruction" but spelled in a creative way.

And I note nobody has tried for the first riddle yet.

The first one was answered correctly with Pearl.  As far as the second, they're good guesses but still wrong.  The answer is not just the word with a number replacing a letter.

Stupot

I've got it!

Oh man, that was a good one.

I was thinking WAY outside the box...altering physical constants and stuff.

Renodox

This is one I got off a TV show and I don't want anyone who already knows the answer to answer it.  My real goal here is to find out of anyone would really be able to figure it out.  You have one week.

A crime is going to be committed.

At a payphone you get a call and are told.
"Ask me no questions, I'll tell you no tales."
After you hang up the phone four quarters and a penny drop out.

Where will the crime take place?

Stupot

Probably a stupid question, but I'm assuming a penny = 1 cent, yeah?

Maybe if the four quarters and a penny add up to $1.01, the address of the crime will be on 101st Street. Errrm. Can't be more specific than that i'm afraid.

Renodox

Unfortunately, that's not right.  Your thinking is on the right track for one part of it, but the answer is very specific.

Renodox

Okay, since nobody got it, the location of the crime is: Police Headquarters room 101.

The reasoning:
"I'll tell you no tales" = the quarters are all heads hence them being head quarters.
A penny is made of copper = "copper" is another word for police officer.
Four quarters and a penny make 101 cents = room 101.

I'm sure a number of you knew the answer already but in all seriousness do you think you would've ever figured it out without it being explained to you?

TheBitPriest

No. Never.  Maybe if I were Batman...

Surplusguy

I didn't answer because I saw that riddle on an episode of Batman the Animated Series, which I think you were referring to? ;-D

In all honesty, not in a month of Sundays!

Why are the quarters all heads?

But yeah, no, I wouldn't have got that without some very unsubtle hints.
