Hello fellow adventurers!

I'm happy to announce my first game, working title THE BUM, which is finally near completion. I started the project over 6 years ago (yep!) but as my graphics skills were pretty poor (and, quite frankly, still are...) it was rather stagnant for most of the time. Fortunately talented background/sprite/animation artist came onboard about a year ago and things sped up.

The game tells a story of a homeless man who communicates with the world using an old sock on his right hand. He's a huge football fan and plays it a lot near his backalley. One day he gets mugged by a wandering bully and looses his precious ball in the process. Now he must pull himself together, team up with a local superhero, find a new ball and confront his oppressor again.

Here are some screenshots:

PROGRESS:
Story 100%
Puzzles 100%
Scripting 90%
Graphics 95%
Sound 60%

Let us know guys what you think. We highly value your opinion.

Thanks!

That plot is right up my alley and I am eager to play! Very nice graphics, too, I like the cartoony style

Squinky

This looks awesome!

cat

Love the graphics and the story sounds fun!

CaptainD

Ah, for a moment I got really excited because I thought you'd made a game starring that bum in the airport in Zak McKraken... but this still looks great!  :-D

Tabata

Nice screenies with a lot of interesting stuff to explore
and the story sounds like we will have fun!

Miguel R. Fervenza

I love the plot and graphics. Stunning situation for designing puzzles. Good luck!

selmiak

loving it already :D

Fitz

The first sentence of the plot summary alone makes for an interesting premise. It'd be funny if the TALK cursor was a sock. And instead of in a pocket, he could store his inventory in another sock!

Gribbler

I'm glad you like the artstyle and somewhat abstract plot - protagonist is in fact a sock with a bum "attached" to it:)

JSH

This looks like a fun game filled with plenty of laughs, I like the cartoonish graphics and wacky plot. Looking forward to playing :)

TheBitPriest

Love the look!  Can't wait!

KodiakBehr

I love it when somebody just appears out of nowhere and shows off something they've clearly been working really hard on.  I'll play this for sure when it's ready.

m0ds

What? Oh not me, another bum. Looks and sounds great!

kconan

Wow, this looks awesome!  Good luck with development.

Nixxon

Can't wait to play this one!

Igor Hardy

What is it about bums that makes them such perfect (and lovable) adventure game heroes?

Gribbler

Lol back in 2006 when this project started there wasn't any. How many bum
games are there now?:)

Gribbler

At least sock idea is still somewhat original:) But I remember few years back there was some Mel Gibson movie in which he talked using a plush beaver puppet...

Sslaxx

Heh! Any chance we can get to play just the sock at all in any part?

Not really :D

But your game looks (and sounds) pretty good on its own, so you should not be bothered by that. Besides, in your game sock is protagonist.

Parafia

Hello to all of AGS forum members.

My name is Lucas and I'm responsible for the visuals, animation and some minor gameplay and character ideas in the game. Also I'm absolutely new to the forum (except for some lurking now and then).
First of all i want to say how exciting it is for me, to see so much positive feedback to our little project. I want to thank you all for the support and all the good words. To see such a reaction to something that for both of us is a traning tool is minblowing (and a little scary ;) ).
I love the idea of creating worlds from the ground up. To this day I remember how for me as a kid, those few pixels in Winnie The Pooh for Atari made for belivable and immersive place to have fun in. Then, all the now classic, adventure games came out and made most of my childhood a fun and sometimes scary ride.
Now we are here, adding our little brick to this great genre and it feels awesome. I hope you will like it, even as a short fun distraction.

Cheers,
Parafia

Gribbler

Hi, guys! Teaser Trailer youtube link is available in the first post.

Fitz

I'm speechless. I think I'm going to need a sock puppet now to express the extent of awe this has left me in :D

Chicky

Great teaser. The humor is just right and i really enjoyed the animations. It feels very LucasArts!

Gribbler

Thank you all for positive feedback. It's very encouraging :)

I'm very happy you like the graphics. We're both busy with everyday life (work, family, etc.) but Parafia's working very hard to hit those retro tones. He's spawning great animations one after another. It's sometimes hard to keep up scripting it all:)

Retro Wolf

If you told me this was an old Lucas Arts adventure game, I would have believed you! It's times like these that makes me wish I was better at art.

Matti

This looks and sounds quite nice. Looking forward to it!

Gribbler

Hi guys!

Progress update:

Story 100%

We're keeping a steady pace. Here's a snippet of some new artwork which will be included in the game:

Gribbler

Hi guys!

I have some news. It's both good and bad, depends how you look at it.

So here goes: I've just became a Dad! Yay!:) GOOD! The game will now probably suffer a slight delay... Cause, as all the Fathers on the forum surely know, amount of free time drops considerably with newborns:) BAD!

Nevertheless, I want to assure you that the game is 95% finished, so keep fingers crossed!

Thanks!

Retro Wolf

Congratulations Gribbler! As a father myself I know the impact a child has on your personal time, but It's definitely worth it!

Yup, you're definitely right there - it's worth it though  :-D - congrats!

SarahLiz

Oh my yes, the game will take a backseat for awhile, no doubt...but congratulations to you!  What a blessing.  :)

Gribbler

Hi guys!

We've got a new gameplay trailer available for you in the first post. Enjoy:)

Love the new trailer! Can't wait to play the game!

(Though I'm afraid all the soccer jokes fly right over my head, I'm more of a squash guy myself!  :-D)

Shane 'ProgZmax' Stevens

I haven't gotten around to looking at the horde of new games coming out for awhile.  The art style for this game is very expressive and pleasant to look at.  I hope you finish it!

Tabata

Can't wait for this to play - looks really good

Do you think it'll be released this year?

Gribbler

This year? But of course! The game should be ready sooner than you think:)

Tabata

YAY!
That's great!
I'll start training with my socket right away  (laugh)

Dualnames

How have I missed this. Art style looks wonderful, storyline semi-interesting, I have this hunch that this will be a wonderful game. Best of luck and courage on finishing this.
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

Tenacious Stu

Loving the visuals, but as I'm not a football fan, I'm worried that some of the jokes may go over my head a little, but the trailer looks awesome! Looking forward to the release.

Gribbler

I'm aware that most football fans are too busy playing FIFA or PES to be interested in some retro adventure game:-) There aren't that many football jokes. I wanted the game to be enjoyed by everyone so I did my best to find a golden mean. I can assure you there are many jokes for long-time adventure gamers too:-)

Vroni

I really like your art style Gribbler. Looks amazing!

Gribbler

Actually, Parafia is the author of all the graphics and animations. I'm responsible for the rest. But thanks anyway, I hope you'll enjoy the game itself, too!:)

Parafia

Naaah dont mind me, i'm just a drummer in this band after all ;). But i'll take that as a compliment nontheless :D.

Minimi

Love this game! Looking forward to it's release!

offtopic: Yes! I'm still alive! :)

* whoa, wild Minimi appeared...

Gribbler

Hi guys! I'll be releasing the game tonight. Fingers crossed!

selmiak

how do you do this between all this hardcore game guessing? But yeah, this is very appreciated  *crosses fingers*  ;-D

Gribbler

Don't forget me being full time dad (diapers!) and my regular job :)

Multitasking level 1000 (laugh)
