Modern slave alien (8)

HanaIndiana

Spoiler
Alfred.  This isn't right, because it's two letters too few.. but I'm posting anyways 'cause it made me chuckle.
Take the annoying alien from the 80's tv show, Alf. And make him Batman's butler (modern slave), and you get Alfred!

Okay, I'm done. I need to keep thinking. I truly am bad at these.

Yup, you got it!

But also Selmiak's answer is hilarious on so many levels. I'm guessing you were referring to the pole on the stage they dance with.......or were you....?

The sanctified First Lady's means of earning a living. (5,4)

Baron

Spoiler
Steve Pain

I get "Steve" from sanctified (ie a saint or "St.") and First Lady (who traditionally has been called "Eve", despite the fact that the very first lady was almost certainly a nameless amoeba (roll) ).  "Means of earning a living" under normal circumstances would mean "labour", but in Eve's case labour was special since some jealous and self-absorbed deity cursed her specifically with pain during childbirth (ie "labour") for nibbling on his fruit.  Obviously he had a very weak grasp of proportionality, but I hear he had a smart mouthed kid some years later that mellowed him out a bit.  Anyway.... "Steve Pain".  Except... I don't know who that is. :P

Okay, I would've never got the first part, Baron, but on the second, I think you reasoned deeper than it was necessary:
