http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panhellenic_Games Olympic games were called Panhellenic, because PAN-all + Hellenic-Greek = were events which united all Greek Polises. Ancient Greece was never one country, like other states which existed in that time period, the only thing that unified them was their language, religion and Olympic games, which happened every 4 years from year 776. BCE.
Appearently, there were other games than Olympic which also belonged to Panhellenic games. I didn't know that. :P
