Can I interject with something I heard on the radio the other day? The presenter himself had been asked this riddle at a pub quiz the night before and decided to pose it to his listeners:

The answer is a simple statement of fact. Not a catchphrase.
JMoTDib'in'P

That's all I'll say for now.

I won't solve this riddle anyways, but number of letters for the solution could be helpful.

The number of letters won't help here. This isn't a crossword-style answer. It is simply sentence stating a fact.

Spoiler
I've got nothing concrete.  The letters seem to start words, although why there would be two apostrophes in that case beats me.  But the "in'P" bit makes me think P might be a place, maybe starting with a syllable that is usually dropped.  So my guess is  John Madden offers to deflate iffy balls' in 'Penhagen.   (Grammatically I don't know why his iffy balls would be possessive... :P )

Not a bad start.
Spoiler
You are on the right track in that the P is a place name. The apostrophes aren't meant in any grammatical/punctuational way here. They are part of the clue.

Now get back on the case.

I have been thinking on this one a lot today and even wrote it on a slip of paper which I tucked behind the plastic of my cigs box to look at whenever I was having a smoke and I think I've mostly solved it without resorting to the net:

Spoiler
Jim Morrison of The Doors in bath in Paris...

I'm guessing the trivia question was something like "What famous person died on [a certain day] and where exactly?"
[close]

Or something roughly like that?

EDIT: After a bit of thought I would like to add this other possible solution:

Spoiler
Jim Morrison of The Doors is buried in Paris...
[close]

If I'm right it's thanks to the facts that:
Spoiler
Back in the day I was a massive Doors fan and have visited his grave at Père Lachaise Cemetery.

You win this round, Gurok! This round! :(

A zero-emission tail-less down-under spread, yourself, the middle of everything, and Ernie's mate, all chasing a top legal official.

Should be pretty easy without a word-count or letter-count...But if not I will provide one, the other, or both... (laugh)
