Cheers for the reply Grok! Great entries!

Cassie, I guess if we had to wait two decades for some iffy prequels we can wait for your amazing (I'm sure) entry!

Oh,and:

R.I.P. Count Dooku :~(

(The world has lost an amazing actor who kept giving us such wealth right up until the end: Christopher Lee)

Bohnito

Nice and smooth cassie 8-) there're still 2 days to go! I myself hope to find some spare time to improve my piece in time (tI screwed the shadings)

Cassiebsg

Thanks, and I just realized that I accidentally saved my file as PNG (without trasparency!). Now I need to do the outline again. >:(

EDIT: Okay, redone the outline work and added some shadows. I'm happy with it. :-D

The Green Landspeeder:

Sorry, no animation since it's parked. :P

Wow! I always thought landspeeders had to be parked at least part-way off camera or between two convieniently-placed rocks. I'd always assumed that it was some kind of Tatooinian parking law...

Thanks for proving me wrong with your amazing (told ya so) entry!

So folks: What I want to do with the voting is this:

Starting from tomorrow I'm going to start asking all my students aged between 3-15 years old to judge which sprite they like the best, as well as a few RL friends who are Star Wars fans and grew up with the movies like me (yeah we are old farts).

I was considering only asking kids who had seen, and were fans, of the movies or valuing their votes higher, but I think I'm going to scrap that idea and just ask everyone. They are the future fan-base after all what with the new movies coming out and everything. Hopefully they too get to grow up with the series in a way that the prequels never really fully inspired...

This process will take a further week, so I hope that's alright with everyone.

I just thought it would be an interesting way to get a lot of feedback from a good slice of the future target-audience of Star Wars...

Entries are still open though. I think I will be closing entries about 31 hours from the time of this post, which is when my first students will start voting, and is half-way through the 15th for me in my time zone.

I think we have all the entries we are going to get, but if anyone is working on an entry and needs a little more time than that I will not shut you out of the contest. But, your entry may miss a few vote chances if not in by the above-mentioned time-limit.

Anke

Wait for me, guys, I'm on my way!

Even big, bad emperors need a cuddle from time to time. Since Palpatine never was a fan of white, long-haired cats (and, quite frankly, didn't want to wander off into another franchise) he went for a dog instead. So be introduced to one of the lesser-known Star Wars characters:

Daisy, the Emperor's Dog

(She's not animated, I'm afraid. Really, it was hard enough to make her sit still long enough to take this picture. ;))

Mandle

Awwwwwww...who's a cute little poochy? I hope he found a good home after his owner entered that terminal diving contest...

So...about 7 hours until voting starts...

If nobody else says they have an entry on the way I will close entries at that time. If somebody needs just a little more time they may enter after voting begins but should be aware that they may miss out on some potential votes by doing so...

xil

I've updated my entry slightly :)

Ardana is now facing off against Darth Baric! (and she spins her lightsabers!! 8-))

Slight delay:

Yesterday we lost the WiFi connection at my workplace so I couldn't access the forums from my classroom. I'm thinking maybe Darth Baric used the Dark Side to interupt the transmission so he could compete on a level playing field.

So yeah....voting will start from today if we can get the WiFi back up and running...For now though entries are still open.

Priabudiman

a lot of excellent entries! great job guys! love all those pixel perfect submissions. good luck to everybody! (laugh)

Mandle

So...I'm at work now and the WiFi is back on so I will start the voting with my students today, in about half and hour from now...

I noticed that Amelie has taken down her entry to redraw:

Amelie: Your entry is still very welcome in the contest but if it's not back up by the time voting starts you might miss out on some votes ;)... Also please try to not be too late in re-entering as that wouldn't be quite fair to others. Once your entry is back on the board I'm going to close entries and all entries must stay in their current form from that point on.

New entries and/or edits to current entries are still legal at this point.

(Oh, and my own entry is not actually open for votes: I really just posted it to get the ball rolling...)

I'm compiling all entries here for easier viewing:

I'm going to use this post to keep track of data about the voters, which I will later tabulate...

I want to keep track of the age and sex of the voters just for the possible interest this could generate amongst the entrants and the onlookers of this thread...

But neither age nor sex will affect the final score: A vote is a vote and here are

Tuesday's results:

Girl/11: Grok: Swinging Luke/Leia
Boy/11: Grok: Darth Vader
Girl/12: Anke

(Yeah, Tuesday is the slowest day at our school and a few kids were absent as well...Voting will pick up hugely over Thursday, Friday, and Saturday...Wednesday, we are closed)

Thursday's results:

Girl/9: Anke
Boy/11: Xil
Girl/11: Anke
Boy/13: Priabudiman
Boy/14: Priabudiman
Boy/12: Cassiebsg

Friday's results:

Girl/9: Anke
Girl/9: Anke
Boy/9: Aikex22
Girl/8: Grok: Swinging Luke/Leia
Boy/8: Anke
Boy/6: Anke
Boy/13: Anke
Girl/11: Priabudiman
Girl/13: Priabudiman
Boy/13: Anke
Girl/15: Bohnito

Saturday's results:

Girl/7: Anke
Boy/7: Anke
Boy/7: Grok: Darth Vader
Girl/7: Anke
Girl/9: Grok: Darth Vader

(I wanted to include some younger voters of about 3-5 year old here on Saturday but they were too busy in their own class and have to be unfortunately cut from the votes)

Monday's results:

Boy/6: Grok: Darth Vader
Boy/12: Priabudiman
Boy/9: Grok: Darth Vader
Girl/7: Anke
Girl/9: Grok: Darth Vader
Girl/12: Anke
Girl/13: Xil
Boy/46: Bohnito (My vote (laugh) )

selmiak

I don't trust your judgement Mandle, you might be too many people, please show us a graph with all median votes, bottlenecks and highs and lows of the election :-D

Mandle

So...The younglings have spoken and the votes fall as follows:

Grok: Swinging Luke/Leia: 2 (Two princesses who want to be saved by a brave young Jedi...I didn't tell them it would turn out to be their own brother...)
Grok: Darth Vader: 6 (A surprising mix of male and female votes for Skywalker Snr.)
Anke: 14 (You really stole the hearts of the female demographic)
Xil: 2 (Your entry gained a comment from every kid ranging from confusion to fascination)
Priabudiman: 5 (Every kid that saw your entry smiled or laughed)
Cassiebsg: 1 (The boy that voted LOVES airplanes and his eyes just lit up when he saw your landspeeder)
Aikex22: 1 (Darth Maul was a bit scary for most kids: So mission accomplished!)
Bohnito: 2 (The girl that voted for your entry is a strong and sassy 15-year-old who don't take no shit from noone. So yeah, pretty easy to see why she identified with your character. I voted for it as well. One boy who loves Star Wars called your piece: "Lightsaber Tai-Chi"...)

So...we have a winner!!!

Congratulations to Anke! Sorry that I don't have time to jazz up the conclusion to this contest or make trophies...

I will just quietly pass the torch to Anke to host the next round.

Thanks to all that entered and made this a really memorable round to host for myself!

* Mandle exits accompanied by The Imperial March as (unforgettably) sung by one of my female students during the voting while skipping around: "La-La-La-LALALA-LALALA..."

Mandle

So....yeah....ummmmm...This contest is over...

I'm just here sweeping up afterwards...

No comments from anyone? Did I do something to piss you guys off or something? Was the kids' voting for the winner not to people's liking?

It's just that there are usually a few comments from the participants at least.

Or is it just that most of you guys are busy with the Background Workshop?

???

Cassiebsg

Sorry, just been too busy and tired lately. :(

Congrats to Anke! As soon as I saw his sprite I was in love! (nod) Guess there's something with females and pooches (laugh) ).

And thanks for hosting Mandle, it was a great theme great and original voting process. (laugh)

xil

Apologies! I think because you were updating a message I wasn't getting email alerts for the thread, my bad for not checking :)

Either way, congrats Anke, a worthy winner!

I'm glade that my 100 pixels or so could produce such an array of emotions, just goes to show what low res art can do :D

Hahaha! great fun! congratulations Anke! very well deserved!

Mandle

Well, Anke has not logged in for about two weeks now...

How long to wait until the torch is passed to Grok, the runner-up?

I'm thinking about another week...
