It's not a bug - It's an undocumented creature!

(Competition runs from June 4th to June 18th)

Far from civilisation, in the middle of nowhere it was living a quiet life for years. But now, in the year 2015, a group of fearless scientists finally discovered this beauty. It's obviously not a beetle, (You don't agree? Well, in that case you will have to take my word for it. It's not a bug.) so what kind of life form is this? To be honest, I have no idea. We will have to ask one of the brave scientists.

What kind of creature are we looking at? Is it an animal, a plant or something else entirely? You will have to show us. Fill the shape with any life form (exept the aforementioned beetle) you can think of. It's up to you if you draw a real existing*, a fictional** or a very fictional*** species.

The rules:

Fill the shape with any creature (exept the aforementioned beetle) you can think of.

You will get away with:
  • Rotating the shape
  • Colouring the outline
  • Using every colour in the book

You won't get away with:
  • Drawing a beetle
  • Drawing Gregor Samsa (or Herbie, if you're more into films)
  • Resizing the shape
  • Drawing outside the shape

But beware! Behave or be cursed:

Oh, yeah, and have fun! ;)

VOTING TIME! (ends June 22th)

Welcome to the annual Conference of Fearless Scientists! Once again some of our fellow colleagues traveled around the world in search of some previously unknown lifeforms.

Congratulations to all the winners! And a really, really big Thank You! to all participants. You and your amazing entries made this round a real pleasure. You guys rock! Last but not least a thanks to all the voters, too.

Oh, and great news everyone! All of you made it into the latest copy of Science Now!

Look! There, on the right side, that's your name. No, really! (You may need to squint a bit. ;))

* Bear in mind the "undocumented", so add a little twist at least

** You know the lot: Nessie, the Chupacabra, basilisks, unicorns ...

*** "Bigfoot butterfly? You totally made that up!"
"I did. So what? When you're done complaining, you'll find me in the garden enjoing the fruits of our strawcherry tree."

Bohnito

This is by far my favorite competition here and I really liked the theme this time! So here it comes:

[imgzoom]http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/ls7o-e-8ca7.png[/imgzoom]

its a squishy thing in a shell.

Bulbapuck

Ooh, a colouring ball competition! Nice time to practice my shading! Let's see.. just add some lines, some colours and OH GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE?!
[imgzoom]http://s7.postimg.org/mgx7z8nfr/Totally_Not_ABeetle.png[/imgzoom]

Started workning on this in the morning btw, it's a weird coincidence that Bonhito and I took a similar approach to it, though he did it way better xD

Cassiebsg

Anke

Awesome entries! You scientist really found a lot of interesting specimen, didn't you? ;-D

@Bohnito: Who would have thought that a squishy thing in a shell could be so gorgeous?

@Bulbapuck: Nah, not better. Just different. Whilst bohnitos creature is wearing his barnacles just for showing off ("Look, I AM adult. Can I have a beer now?"), yours is sporting this adorable "More coffee. Now!"-look.

@Grok: A no-brainer, you said? So he is in disguise then? ;) However that may be, I'd rather not get into a thinking contest with him.

@Cassiebsg: A dinopig? Why on earth wasn't it featured in "Jurassic Park"? Just think about how good the film could have been!

Come on, people, show us your findings!

Mandle

Oops....double post... :-[

Spoiler
Actually it's on purpose to test colours as AGS forums needs to make an edited post green for some reason...But still...sorry...

Anke

Beware of Afrothulu, the god of double posts! You always meet twice ...

Thanks Mandle, wonderful entry! Had a good laug- err, I mean, I was genuinely scared the moment I saw him. ;)

Anke

Let's just hope that Ripley is around here somewhere, we might need her help. Whatever he is, Mokho, he's definitely alien - and definitely great!

Really like your ideas so far, keep 'em coming!

Mandle

Interesting that nobody has rotated/mirrored the frame so far. I don't remember that happening before (well, except for last round but that kinda doesn't count)...

I actually had an idea for an upside-down frame critter so if I get the time I might draw that one up and enter it as well.

Tabata

Well - mine is rotated, but still not for public

Not top secret but they don't behave well (and are toxic) 8-0

Great entries so far!
I like it to see so many participants - it is very entertaining (nod)

Edit:
Couldn't get it really to look like I wanted, but just for the fun of taking part
-  let me introduce to the public the just discovered so far unknown species called ......

    [imgzoom]http://fs2.directupload.net/images/user/150611/zi6dfx5z.gif[/imgzoom]
… the ordinary fire-snail

Here we have some cute little buggers, kind of a snail
but sadly they are veery toxic. So - for your own safety - do not touch!

They have this tentacles at the head that work like a toxic tongue.
Everything touched by those continuously in movement being 'antennas' will get paralyzed.
They  pierce their tail-sting deep inside the paralyzed part of the booty to get a strong hold (once completely drilled you need a scalpel to remove it). That way they have the chance to 'prepare' the booty with their strong, like pliers tools to get appetizing morsels into their mouth whithout the risk of falling.

They where discovered (by accident - but who asks  ) in the deep jungle by a scientist who left his tent in the middle of the night for to pee. He had mistaken their glowing eyes (that guarantees their good nightsight) with fireflies and nearly lost several fingers until he was saved by his comrades.
This might be the reason why he decided to name them fire-snail  (wtf)

Anke

And there was me thinking snails are harmless. Good Lord! It's true then: Never judge a book by its cover. Great find, Tabata! But please make sure that your specimen is stashed away securely, will you? ;)

Last chance everyone! Voting will start in, let's say, 48 hours. If there are any last minute entries, make sure to finish them until the day after tomorrow (or let me know if you need more time).

Amayirot Akago

Quote from: CaptainDMy suspicion is that an accident, probably caused by a lightning storm and a mad professor, resulted in Amayirot's brain becoming inextricably linked to the databases behind MobyGames and LemonAmiga.

Bulbapuck

IMO Mandle deserves to win every award ever for his submission. It is the best thing to happen ever. Nevertheless, I must vote in accordance to the system:

1. Mandle - clearly, no explanation needed.
2. Bohnito - this is incredible, I was super excited to post my entry and then saw this masterpiece that was everything I tried to make and more.
3. Tabata - I haven't wanted to hug a slug this bad since 1992 when my grandma displayed to me what salt could do. Aaahh memories.

Some great findings indeed!

selmiak

Mandle

Hehehe selmiak....Exactly my choices. Hope you don't mind if I just YOINK that and:

1. Bohnito (It's just so cutely gross, and also I like the shading on this piece the best. You have achieved a nice rounded, solid effect...)
2. Mokho (The ear-wings actually look translucent which is not an easy effect to pull off in a small area)
3. Tabata (Too cute, and yet disturbing!!! You had me wondering how bad the story about the guy going out for a leak was going to get. Luckily it didn't go the way I thought it was gonna...)

All entries were awesome and the choice was hard as usual...
