Hosted once by legends like Kinoko, Gilbert, Ben304, and icey games.
After 2005/1, 2005/2, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012, and 2013, finally, the greatest of all community activities is returning...

Everyone is invited to this creative showcase. And every contributed piece, be it small, be it unfinished, will get it's deserved minimum 15 minutes of fame (probably more).

(9/23): Thanks so much to all participants! What promising projects you guys are working on - really great stuff. Hope to have lots of that playable soon.

Yeey, a new Release Something, awesome. Thanx for hosting it, Amélie:)
Here's some wips of a project I've been working on last year.

Mandle

I'm on it!!!

I have a sooooo unreleased game that was sooooo close to completion, except for my laziness amd the hard work that always comes to get everything polished:

(Harry Caine....I never forgot abooooouuuut youuuuuuuuuuuu!!!)

gameboy

I'm in.

Here are a few shots of a mystery project I've been working on:

I will also plan to release a short game I started making for MAGS May, that's been sitting around almost finished for a while.

CaptainD

Arj0n and gameboy - wow. Love Futurama, love gameboy's art style.  Both your games look awesome.

Retro Wolf

I've been messing with a little project on and off. The working title is "Can I Make an RPG in AGS?".

[imgzoom]https://s11.postimg.org/4gbzvljb7/Can_IMake_An_RPGIn_AGS.png[/imgzoom]

It features flood fill pathfinding.
Neighbour aware tile selection. So all I have to do is edit that image in the bottom right to design the game world. Potentially using AGS drawing functions to create random levels.
Basic AI: Follow player or roam.
The option of switching between real time or roguelike turn based movement.
No combat system yet but I've designed a basic one in my head.

Mandle

The "Neighbor Aware Tile Selection" tutorial you linked to was AMAZING in how simple and elegant code can be if one takes the time to think it through beforehand...

I would have just gone for the "towering if statement" in this case myself, but now I know there is always a better way...

And may God above bless me if I ever have the particular case or the patience or the time to actually apply this kind of logical code in a project...

(I usually just go for the: If it works then "meh screw it" approach and then move on hoping I don't break everything later...)

Here are a couple of screenshots from the project I'm currently working on, which I'll probably formally announce within the next couple of months.

It's a detective game set in an alternate steampunk-ish 1840s.

The conversation system is very much inspired by the first Gabriel Knight.

Danvzare

Here's something I've been working on for a LONG time. Damn my slow and rather poor art skills!

[imgzoom]http://orig12.deviantart.net/8d1c/f/2016/237/0/3/street_outside_rowen_s_apartment_by_danvzare-daf8srp.png[/imgzoom]
[imgzoom]http://orig10.deviantart.net/d55f/f/2016/237/8/a/right_by_danvzare-daf8t7d.gif[/imgzoom]

I've been itching to show these off for ages now, but have never had quite enough to actually announce the game.
It feels good to finally unload. :-D

Retro Wolf

@Mandle: When I first came across the article I got so excited, then I stopped myself and thought "GOD I'm such a nerd!".

Space Resident started as an easter egg game within a game and now turned into a mid-length EGA nightmare that is almost ready for a beta!:

Spoiler
Concept art for a yet to be named space ecology game:

Concept art for Wrong Planet, a short survival horror game that I need to finish:

The Farm, which I am currently overthinking and should probably just tidy up and release:

... and finally Dagstadt, a sci-fi mystery adventure I am in the process of completely redesigning:

I'm starting to think I have too many things going on at once. :-[

Edit: Looks like I completely misunderstood this concept!

I really love the art direction of these 2 games :)

Kumpel

Wow, Danvzare. Your sign on the right hit me hard and made my day! It's actually absolutely brillant.
(laugh)(laugh)(laugh)
May we expect more of this lunacy in the rest of the game?

@arj0n: OMG I love to play a futurama fan adventure! It looks so cute! I noticed two things about Bender though (is critique even wanted in this thread?):
1) He is missing a speech animation. Is this on purpose because it looks ugly for you with such a low res sprite or did you animate it already in the newer version?
2) The character sprite looks a bit rough in the shower scene in front of some of the walls, because you scaled it up really hard. Maybe the sprite works better with some outlines?

I was just about to comment the same thing: That sign is darkly hilarious!

Quintaros

Cool thread.

Here's an animation I've working on for an action scene in my upcoming game:

Mandle

RUN, NUMBER SIX, RUN!!!

Good to see you are still working on that project! And that likeness is awesome!

cat

Great stuff, guys!

This is a screen from a game Ghost and I were working on for MAGS 11/2015 (but sadly never finished, I hope he doesn't mind I share this here). It was planned as point and click adventure in children's book design with Dr. Seuss style rhymes.
You play as the ghost-cat :-D

Scavenger

I was working on a quest-for-glory-esque adventure game before we lost our apartment and had to spend a couple months trying to find a new place to live. I may go back to working on it, once I've worked on the puzzles a bit more. It's not ready for more than techdemos right now, but it's perfect for Release Something!

The game's in 8-bit as usual for me, I had to program my own plugin in order to get all the effects I wanted out of AGS, but it looks really promising.

Wonderful! Game art at it's finest, and absolutely inspiring. Thank you, guys!

[I reserve this post here for later feedback writing]

I really don't have any other games in the works besides Ehcilc, so I can't show you any awesome concepts or unrevealed secret projects, but I can release some older stuff, like all the graphics from my first game Don't Drink the Pink, which you can download here. I'm still hoping that I'll update and bugfix this game at some point.

Few examples:

[imgzoom]https://i.imgur.com/bLowqN6.gif[/imgzoom]

And here's some character sprites that I've doodled during the past couple of years. I've actually posted some of those on the forums already, but most have just been sitting in my practice folder. I'm sure that some of those will eventually find their way into an AGS game.

Cassiebsg

I guess I can show these for my full length Battlestar Galactica (1978) game (not Unexpected...) ;)

WIP of the Galactica bridge (plan is to make every room visit-able in the ship):

And Adama's quarters WIP (with inventory by jwalt):

I figure I can at least share the one finished original room from the DOTT/Sam and Max fan game I was making 2 years ago.
Bernard's room.  The shelf has a lightsaber, Darth Vader helmet, storm trooper helmet, and Millenium Falcon. The glass case has a Chewbacca suit.

[imgzoom]http://i64.tinypic.com/2exyogl.jpg[/imgzoom]

I also have unfinished bedrooms for Hoagie and Laverne plus the hallway which connects them. There's also an unfinished exterior shot of their house that leads to a Snuckeys and an unifinished area that leads to the Snuckeys bathrooms.

@Quintaros : your gif rocks. I totally picture it in a QTE cutscene.

@Scavenger's : It's hard to believe that your project is not even alpha. These screenshots could belong to a finished game.

@gameboy : I still hope to sway my hips on your ugly dancefloor someday.

@Cat : Lovely screenshot. I Wonder what will come next : a game with a hobo cat? A slasher cat?  A nihilyst cat?

@Cassie : this bridge is gorgeous.Good luck for animating all these screens.

@VampireWombat : this carpeted floor screams DOTT and this creature in the display case screams "let me out!"

Godzillu and I were working on a game for the Neglected Historical Eras MAGS.

Same here. Thanks for sharing this, it's indeed quite elegant. It might even come in handy in my current project.

Haggis

Ahhhh I may as well show the only screenshot from my long lost Mighty Boosh fan game. It represents my first dabblings with AGS, I had a fully walking and talking Howard Moon.

But then The Man From Fugue State came along and this project was lost to the sands of time. This screenshot is all that remains of its existence.

CaesarCub

I have so many unfinished things on my HDD it's depressing sometimes.

But let's pick the recent AGS ones that I still revisit and try to complete.

[imgzoom]http://i.imgur.com/ZPYAoou.png[/imgzoom]
These are the main character and the cast/romantic interests of a yet-to-be-named game.
The setting idea is a regular person thrown into an alternate universe.

Here is the main character walking cycles:

[imgzoom]http://i.imgur.com/iiDHNAW.gif[/imgzoom]
And here are some of the sketches for some rooms:

[imgzoom]http://i.imgur.com/1uDK3NO.png[/imgzoom]

This is the cast and starship of a Star Trek like idea I have (also adult themed).
The main character would be Captain Torres (green uniform), but the idea is that in the away missions, the player could switch from characters to use their specific abilities.

[imgzoom]http://i.imgur.com/HbQTyAU.png[/imgzoom]

And, just because I might as well show it instead of letting it die in my computer, this is the walk cycle for the MAGS extinction I never got the time to finish:

[imgzoom]http://i.imgur.com/riv9Xi4.gif[/imgzoom]

I also have some other projects I am also working on, but none are made in AGS so I don't think they would belong in here. (I know I have way too many projects -_- )

qptain Nemo

Danvzare

So much fantastic artwork from so many unfinished games.
Looking at all of these things excites my imagination to no end. :-D

Blondbraid

I have tried to do some work on a sequel for Sniper and spotter being patriotic, but I haven't gotten much work done so far, just a few rough sketches and a title screen:

The working title so far is Sniper and spotter serving the motherland, and this game will be about the scorched earth strategy the soviets were using during the Great Patriotic War.
I had a lot of fun making my previous game and wanted to tell more stories about the sniper Olga and her spotter Ivan, and intend for this game to to have the same dark satirical tone as the previous one.

The mission of Olga and Ivan will be to:
1:Destroy all supplies, resources and useful things belonging to their own side.
2:Run away and hide.
3:Win the war!

Thanks for the praise. I never saw it that way, it was just a way to try and make a compact medium sized ship but incorporate somehow the saucer that is classic from the ST universe.

It's really neat to see so many great ideas from so many people here :D

Some funny miscellaneous stuff I created:

Just cruisin':

Evil Santa:

A-TEAM spoof:

Yep, a textparser game ;)

Agree, I'd never thought that a room full of Barbie-pink could be that ominous! 8-)

Stupot

Here's a screenshot of a Twine game I've been working on:
But bear in mind this screenshot is a bit misleading because these are just placeholder images until I go out and take my own photos.

And here is a preview build of the game. Feel free to have a look.
http://philome.la/StuartForbes/gametest01/play
There's a bit more to it than that, but it's a bit all over the place and I haven't really got a proper story yet. Kind of been making it up as I go along.

Wow arj0n, those are some nice screenshots, since it's a remake though, is it safe to assume that those are the original backgrounds?
I'd sure like to see that same background in EGA. :-D

Stupot+, your game has piqued my interest. I'll have to take a look at that preview build you mentioned

Stupot....the game has a nice moody feel and the eerie premise of stepping outside the mundane world suddenly and unexpectedly, which is a theme that I LOVE!!! (I'm a major Clive Barker fan)

Spoiler

Reinventing Alice's rabbit-hole as the back of a washing machine in a coin-laundry is absolute genius!!!

Best of luck with the project!!!

arj0n

xBRANEx: Thank you Sir!
Blondbraid: Barbie-pink does rule indeed! ;)

Danvzare: Yes, these are original backgrounds. I'm using the backgrounds from the DOS version and also from the Amstrad CPC version. I do have to alter them all cause I got rid of the timing mechanism which sucked in the original version. In stead of that I've added a simple score system like the early Sierra quests. Besides that, the parser output in the original version was shown below the parser player input, which is now shown as a centered popup display. The inventory box had to be slightly altered too.
All this is needed to let everything fit properly the way I'm remaking it :)

Radiant

This is what the Crystal Shard team is working on,

CaptainD

Mandle

OMG Radiant!!! That game looks gorgeous!!! It also looks like exactly my kind of game!

(It also explains why your MAGs entry was a tile-based simulation...Not saying you used existing assets...Obviously not...But it was what you were used to coding at the time I'm guessing...)

Danvzare

Wow that art is absolutely gorgeous! 8-0
And the coding you probably had to do to create that interface and the hexagonal tiles!
I'm amazed. (nod)

Stupot

That is some sweet-ass stuff the Radiant.

SilverSpook

I meant to submit this last week, better late than umreleased vaporware! This is of course fromNeofeud, which is nearly complete and will hit your floppy disk shelf in Q4 2016, if my Neofeudal lords ladies, patrons and supporters help make it happen.

[embed=1000,600]http://youtu.be/ABL8kjlhhyU[/embed]

The game itself is 1366x768 resolution with 100% hand painted, laboriously animated scenes such as this 'War of the Neo World Orders'.  A huge fan of Ridley Scott, James Cameron (Aliens, not Titanic) and Neil Blomkamp, a major mantra or goal in Neofeud was to push the vast, visual storytelling envelope with this project, to realize (and release) a yet unseen vision of the world that extrapolates forward cautionary, but also mirrors the nightmare of the present.  Which is why I felt the maximum detail was necessary;  wrist, screen real estate, and RAM be damned.

Kastchey

After some desperate sifting through my folders I have managed to collect the below.

#1-6 is artwork for A Landlord's Dream. Most was made with the expanded version of the game in mind with the exception of #6 which was made for the MAGS version but we ran out of time so it was never used.
#7-8 was made when I was considering joining a MAGS themed "Monsters".
#9 is a world map for one of my forever-in-limbo projects, The Snow Queen.
#10-11 is another one of those, based on one of HPL's short stories.
#12 is a mockup of a game I thought would be fun to play on mobile devices. I didn't draw the astronaut, I just copy pasted him in to test the GUI design.
#13-14 is another set of mockups inspired by a MAGS theme, All Hallow's Eve.

Agreed, lovely screens! Now go make some of those games! It would be a shame to not use them!

I agree with Cassie, it'd be a shame to see these go to waste.
Although with how much unused artwork you seem to have, perhaps you could put them all together to make a short mish-mash type of game. ;-D

Kastchey

Thank you guys! Your comments mean a lot :>

Out of these, ALD may become a full game. There have been some harsh reality checks but we are still trying!
As for the others, I would very much love to make some of these into a real game one day but alas, life makes it hard to stay focused so all use I have ever made of them are Release Something threads... which is probably better than nothing ;)

@Blondbraid: The Lurking Fear. I always thought that with some minor adjustments, the structure of this one would be just perfect for an adventure game so I keep getting back to the concept once in a while. Can't really get it out of my head, I guess =)

kconan

Awesome stuff so far!

Using Skorpio's LPC Sci-Fi pack (with mechs!) and Gamemaker's Sci-Fi pack, I put together a huge room that would hopefully one day be a fully realized game.  The idea is a main character was genetically designed to be a higher-level Judge Dredd type of guy in an oppressive society...He either continues to cruelly oppress all the NPCs he comes across or chooses to help them fight back.  The NPCs don't know anything else, so they would have to be told how to rebel rather than them coming to the player character.  The game would be winnable in either extreme, or even perhaps in some grey area.  I haven't messed with the game in a while, though I'm hoping to "one day" return to it.

A few screenshots...

Some great bits and bobs here. Nice stuff everyone.

I feel like there might have been a bigger turnout if the thread hadn't been stickied, to be honest. I don't always check the sticky threads as a matter of course. My eyes are drawn to the first posts underneath the block of stickies.
