Nr. 2698

Hello everybody,

im new in the 7Cities-Team and working on graphics.
Doing a taking animation. Well havent really done animations before, just very few. Can you give me some tipps how i can improve my animation?
Think it isnt fluent and some movings, especially the legs seem to be wrong or exaggerated.

Well in my imagination i like to rotate the back a bit with the arm.

This is not the complete animation. I think i will show, how he is doing it in the jacket, also and come back to the outgoing position.

Danvzare

You're right about his legs being overly exaggerated. He makes it look too dramatic. Have you tried not moving his legs at all?

Slasher

I agree.

Just bobbing his head is a good start.

Monsieur OUXX

If you want Indy to be able to reach further, he could do a step forward, but if you try it in real life you'll see that naturally you'd do the step first and only then bring your arm up.

Cassiebsg

The question is: Why is he even moving the leg and arm? Unless it's for some dramatic scene, I don't seen anyone that is just normal talking doing anything like that. The head bobbing should be only natural movement in normal talking...

Snarky

Taking, not talking, Cassie. :P

Ah, okay that makes a lot more sense... :P

well, well, well... :-D

Thank you very much for your input.
Did now the modification of the sprite. ;)

Now Indy doesnt look like he is sweeping a beer from the bar.
Have it more simplified. He is moving forward, but makes no step just standing on his tiptoes.
What i like most ist the grab-animation of the hand. 8-)

the grab animation is cool, I can already hear some swooshy grab sound.
but it all happens so fast, what about adding an inbetween frame between 1 and 2 with the hand already open and that thumb pixel.

Monsieur OUXX

I'm taking the liberty of posting the latest version by Nr. 2698 :

I like this one very very much.

I'll have just 3 recommendations for the next phase, the shading phase: (image below)
1) I've noted that you have a tendency to move the ass too low, and add extra pixels between the thighs. Don't. In doubt, go for the straight legs rather than thighs widening up
2) In case of doubt, shade the back to give Indy's upper body a more triangular shape rather than a puffy shape
3) apply slight perspective on the lower end of the jacket. Since Indy is slightly turned (his feet are not on the same horizontal line), the same should go for the jacket.

+1

I also think an inbetween frame for when he's lifting his arm up, would be good too.
Overall though, it's a huge improvement.

Scavenger

If you add a little easing to the movement, you'll end up with a lot more natural movement for his picking up animation. You don't need to do much, just moving a couple of pixels around can create a nice little buffer around gross movement.

And also, if you really want to make it look natural, he needs to think about putting the object in his jacket before he does it, so his head needs to move to look at what he's doing:

This one's a little harder as you need to make his head move less than a pixel, but at least, in my opinion, it makes him look a little more alive as he's stealing items.

Heyho everybody,

thank you for your very valuable input with this frame.
Its not ready. Its just a intermediate state.

@scavenger

Thank you for your easing suggestions.
At the first view i havent seen your inbetweeners, you added. These are really cool.
Had adapted many suggestions including the amazing head-animation. Others i tried to make another way.

It was really helpful.

Im not ready with it. Its a intermediate state.
At the moment im struggling with the jacket. Well the legs was much more easier to shade.
But the jacket has folds and thousend of brown and ocker tones, difficult to understand.
