Were both the husband and the wife killed by the same person?
Were they buried underground(i.e: not in a snowdrift or similar)
Was a car crash involved?

Prototype solution: They were driving in their car through a snowy countryside when a hunter's stray bullet hit the wife (or the husband shot her (by accident maybe)), who was driving. The car veered off the road and hit something, causing them to both crash through the windscreen (husband first, and head-first) and they ended up "buried" in a snowbank...

It is kind of obvious that there must be a third person involved and it was in the forest. SO:
Was there any tracks from a third person found?
Was there any tracks from a second vehicle?
Was the blunt object a tree?

Some of the answers are a little tricky to decide... Since I think the case is pretty easy, I'll choose the more difficult answers. (laugh)

Case 22
A car is found abandoned in the forest. Nearby, police discover the owners, a husband and wife, buried. The woman has been shot, the man hit over the head with a blunt object.

It's up to you to solve the case!

Did the husband shoot his wife?

Riaise

selmiak

Did he kill her?
Di she kill him?
Did they bury themselves?

Sinitrena

Was the husband's death an accident?
Was a person involved in the death of the husband?
Or did "nature" kill the husband? (e.g. a landslide?)

Was the car in working condition?
Is there a street (or at least a path) leading to where the car was found?

When they were found, had they died recently? (let's say, less then a month ago?)

Were they buried equally deep?
Were they buried by a third person?
Were they buried by the same person?

Snarky

I'd say to limit the number of questions for the round, but I think you're about to solve it anyway...

Did the husband murder the wife somewhere else?
Then he put her body in the car to bury it in the forest?

Sooo... ?

NightHawk

Did someone see the husband bury his wife?
Was a third party aware that his wife was shot?

Sinitrena

Sooo...
The husband murdered his wife and wanted to dig a grave for her. He drove to the forest and started digging. He put the wife into the grave, then fell himself, while she was already halfway buried. He hurt his head on a rock (that either lay on the ground or fell from the wall of the grave) and the loose earth of the grave fell on him, burying him with his wife.
Anything missing?

Snarky

Yes, that's very close, but not quite what I had in mind regarding the man's death. One of the answers so far has a major clue.

Let's do a proper update with some clarifications:

Yes
Did the husband shoot his wife?
Were they buried underground (i.e: not in a snowdrift or similar)

Is there a street (or at least a path) leading to where the car was found?
Did the husband bury the wife?
Did the husband murder the wife somewhere else?
Then he put her body in the car to bury it in the forest? [99% accurate]
Was the blunt object a rock?
Did the husband dig a grave for the wife?
Did the husband fall into the grave? [this depends slightly on your definition]

Is the missing piece that there was a landslide and a rock/boulder hit the man on the head and knock him into the grave then other rocks covered them both?

Was she shot but still alive while he was digging the grave?

Yup, that's it!

A man shot his wife. In order to get away with it, he thought to bury her where she would never be found. He drove her body to a remote location, where a forest edged onto the bottom of a scree or unstable cliffy hill. He planned to bury her near the bottom of the slope, just downhill of some firmly planted rocks, then trigger a landslide that would cover her grave under several feet of rocks and dirt. However, he accidentally set off a slide while he was still in the avalanche zone, got hit in the head by a rock and buried underneath the mass. By the time their car was found, months later, the ground had settled and both their bodies were quite buried.

Well done dayowlron and Sinitrena for making short work of the mystery!

dayowlron

Cool, I will let Sinitrena have this one if she wants it. I have done a couple of cases and right now dont have a case in mind, however if she doesnt want to I will come up with something on the fly.
