Did the hostage takers change clothes/disguises with the hostages?
Did the police think they were shooting the hostage takers?
Is this a scene from a movie?

NightHawk

You got it.

Solution
A group of thieves took hostages while robbing a bank but the police get there before they can get away so they disguise a few hostages as robbers and duct tape weapons onto their hands. The robbers tell the police negotiator they are releasing some hostages and walk out among them while the fake robbers get shot in the swat raid.

Did he die when the scoreboard was used during he did repairs?

We have a winner!

Solution
A careless electrician was repairing some faulty wiring on the big "HOME RUN" sign on the scoreboard when it was suddenly turned on due to the homer just hit during the game.
He was electrocuted and died.

Over to you Tabata, or dayowlron, who provided a vital hint, if Tabata is unable...
