Had she been fitted with a device?

Not "fitted with" but she had a certain object with her for the first time, yes.

Had she taken up a new hobby?

Well, taking care of these dogs in the first place was kind of a hobby.

CaptainD

Was the item she had with her a pendant alarm?
Was it a dog whistle?

(I'll update the main post a bit later. Assume for now that any questions I don't comment on are a simple NO answer)

So we now know that the old lady had been using a walking stick for the first time and that this made her dogs attack and kill her.

The only piece left in the puzzle is figuring out why such a change would have triggered her dogs to do such a thing.

Cassiebsg

Were the dogs previously beaten with a stick? (as in they were mistreated as pups?)
There are those who believe that life here began out there...

Stupot

The dogs thought the stick was a plaything and took it off her making her stumble and hit her head.

The case has been 99% solved but I would like to see it through to 100% closure:

Why was the eldery lady taking care of these dogs in the first place?

Cassiebsg

Was she giving love to rescue dogs?

Was she giving love to rescue dogs?

I think right here we can declare this case closed and solved by Cassie:

This case was based on one of the saddest news stories I have ever heard:

The elderly lady built a shelter for rescue dogs in her back yard as something meaningful to do in her old age.

She accepted the rescue dogs from the local shelter that nobody else took in.

In case anyone does not know what a "rescue dog" is: It is a dog that was abused or neglected by its owner and was removed by law into custody to be potentially adopted by another owner.

Eventually she had about a dozen dogs that she was taking care of and that nobody else wanted, including a big alpha-male: The leader of the pack.

Everything was fine until, one day, the elderly lady took a fall and hurt her hip.

The next time she went out to feed the dogs she needed to use a walking stick to walk down to the shelter.

The big alpha-male dog she had rescued had been beaten with a stick by the man that previously owned him.

When this dog saw the elderly woman coming with the stick in hand he (most likely) flashed back to being beaten as a pup and reacted in his defense by attacking the woman.

As he was the alpha-male dog the other dogs joined in and also attacked her.

The woman was killed by the dogs she had saved.

The dogs that attacked her were all put to death as the law demanded.

Probably this makes sense in this case. Nobody would take in a rescue dog that had killed somebody.

But the saddest thing for me about this incident is that it was all caused by human cruelty and I hate to imagine how those dogs felt after they had killed the woman that had cared for them.

CASE CLOSED

People used to comment after the end of a case to kind of let the host know if it had been involving or, if not, then why not.

This is what makes hosting a case interesting for me: knowing how people felt after the ending.

I thought the case was interesting, but just now saw it was solved. I had not heard that story but it is very sad.

Ahh sorry man. I was still waiting for that last 1% and didn't realise the case was closed already.

I like that it was based on a real case. It's a good story, albeit tragic. I must admit though, I prefer these when they are a murder rather than an accident. It's fun working out whodunnit and why. But here we pretty much established that was an accident involving a pet pretty early on and the rest was just garnering the details.

Cassiebsg

Oh, sorry, been "spacing out"... (roll)
I was "close" on my first attempt... (roll) The fact that I entered and continued posting questions (albeit not many) means it was interesting enough to participate... as some times I just read. ;)
And yes the poor woman. Though, did she knew the background of the dogs? And if so, cause she should, wondering why she choose to walk in there with a cane. Maybe she just forgot and did not thought the dog(s) would attack.

Anyway, I don't have anything, so anyone can just jump in with a new case. (nod)

Thanks for the case, Mandle! Well worth it as always. A sad story for sure.

Animal motives is pretty far out of my wheelhouse to speculate about, but I suppose it came together in the end.
