Avast Anti Virus and Every AGS Game

Hello folks

I have had a consistent issue running every complied AGS game executable and uncompiled project test/previewing with my Avast anti virus.

Every ags game I have tried so far, without exception, has been flagged by avast as being suspicious. The pain is that when I click a game to run avast has this popup appear saying its checking the file because its suspicious. if i am not quick enough to abort this and its very easy to do since its only there briefly it automatically, every-time no matter what, flaggs the file as a potential danger and informs me that its sent the file off for inspection by avast staff or whatever, leaving me with a file that when I try again wont even run at all. So avast is changing the file in some way I dunno.

To make matters worse MOST of the time I DO manage to abort this horrible popup it completely and utterly freezes onto the screen, and no amount of trying to close the many avast tasks running via task manger will shut those tasks down. So I have to reboot my pc many times while trying to play ags game, and after re-boot if i attempt to run the same file again avast dose this again.

To make this even worse, a few of the games I DID manage to get working after avast made me wait up to 2 days, it would only let me run it once, ..  then the next time i run it , its almost like avast forgot it said the last time it was safe, so I have to go through this whole popup/reboot pm/wait up to 2 days ... issues again and again, every ags game bar none.. this has never happened with any other game file.

Before this was a trivial annoyance, but now its starting to become a pain and I was wondering if any of you out there are also running avast and having this same issue .. if so is there anything I can do asides from completely shutting avast down every-time I want to run a game then try to remember I have it off to turn it back on again. :-\

If you search for "Avast" on AGS forums you will find several similar topics opened last year.

I do not know any other solution than directing your complains to Avast. After all, it is THEM who are responsible for faulty virus detection.

Khris

Go to Settings -> General and
a) turn off Hardened Mode
and / or
b) add the folder containing your own and downloaded AGS games to the Exclusions

Did anyone tried asking about this on their forums before?

I am not using Avast, but guess will have to do it myself... I do not have much time to track their responses now, so I will make a post and link it here. I won't be around for a while, please follow their responses if any and add any information that you have.

EDIT: the link on Avast forums:
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=204789

I ask everyone who had issues with Avast post the details there. Tell them which virus was "detected", etc, this information may be important.

Yea I did come across one post on ags a while ago pertaining to this, back then it wasn't really much of an issue, but it has become a tad annoying, in particular if you are not fast enough to catch that popup.

And of course I realize this is more an avast issue then ags, in fact its nothing to do with ags, so I was never pointing the finger at ags being responsible. but I was specially curious if others here where having similar issues and might know of a trick without having to totally shut down avast, which leave my system exposed in general.

Crimson Wizard I am going to assume avast will do little about it, I am not sure if its worth your while even making a post there, but perhaps its worth a try I dunno.

In the mean time I will try out that hardened mode, or just shut avast down prior to running ags games (which just seems the simplest solution) then have it back on after I play.

thanks for the responses on this too

They also have a page on their main website where you can report false positives.  Maybe we all start submitting different AGS games they may get the  point.

They replied by giving couple of links:

I will be able to check this through when I am back in couple of weeks.
