Hey, it's been a long time since I last needed criticism, or got any time for drawing/painting at all, for that matter. Anyway, I've been trying to work on RF's backgrounds as much as possible but it seems that I'm still not quite happy with the style. I'm now trying to get a bit more detail to the images with custom brushes. The image here is not quite the style I'm looking for actually, it's a bit too serious and still quite dull detail-wise, but anyway, I'd like you tell me what you like so far. Sorry about the image being so dark... I didn't realize it when I was drawing it in fullscreen. If you have the time, please check it out in fullscreen as well. The detail should be better seen then.

Thanks in advance for any input!

very very very very... **goes on for 30 mins** good... the second one's a bit to bright. maybe more shadows?...

Pessi

Ah, thanks a lot!

The second one is actually just a small part of the original one (3 times bigger). In case someone wanted to see more detail. Hehe.

I noticed that it was a small part, but i too thought it was lighter

This is more like a Lovecraftian atmosphere than a cartoon game... To tell the truth, the small brush strokes make it look more impressionist than functional art would allow.

Pessi- as you probably already know, i truly admire your background drawing skills... and again- fantastic work! It's hard to comment on general style, because i don't know how does game's characters look like (and how will they work on background), but as stand alone drawing it's perfect! Unique and interesting.

Really good. You paid attention to detail, and made it look almost photorealistic, but also kind of strange and surreal. But I agree that it's much too gloomy to be a Roger Foodbelly background. I think more variety in the coloring and more exaggerated shapes would do it some good..

I think it will fit in wonderfully with the characters I've seen for Roger Foodbelly. Discworld had some traditionally type painted scenes with cartoony graphics as well, and it worked excellent. Of course it was in lo-res which sort of impressionalises the cartoon characters.. but I have a feeling this will fit well in hi-res as well.
