Hy,

I'm starting up a new project out of nostalgia more than anything but I wanted to bring my pixelart up a level since my last (fairly old) games. Brownie points for anyone who recognises the scenes ;). Any suggestions on how to make it even better? I also tried painting the scenes and scanning them in to make them less "blocky" but that style just didn't gel with me.

Huh? is this going to be a fan game about M*A*S*H?

Bingo. But nothing special to be honest. I'm not really much of a writer :P.

In the first picture, the mountains  are too closely aligned with the elements of the foreground IMO.

Good point. I'll work on that.

Cool! I've completely forgotten about that show until you reminded me of it :)
I am not an artist, so I can't really critique your work. All I can say is that it looks really fun and would like to play the game asap.

This looks amazing! I can already imagine this turning into something fun.

To offer the requested "critics lounge" advice:

I think for the next revision, work on the clouds and mountains. Mute the color and detail on both of them.

If these are all the colors of your palette:

For the mountains, pick one or two of the colors that you're using in your palette with a little more white (light grey, light green). Remove the green pixels, and make them more flat (much less detail).

For the clouds, skip the blue interior pixels, and maybe use more of your lightest blue in the sky with the grey blue in the clouds to give them more depth (less of the brighter white -- just use that as a  highlight).

Again, very, very nice backgrounds. I like were this is going!

You mean like this? To be honest the clouds look better but the mountains look to flat to me. Also they look too far away. The scene is suppose to take place in the middle of the mountains of Korea.
