I've been thinking of making a short game with graphics inspired by Day of the Tentacle and that game forever in production Super Friends something that's inspired by Day of the Tentacle.

This is a police detective. Because I have no imagination. I've made him fairly serious looking. He's going to be a sane guy in a world full of crazy people. Those people will have exagerated proportions and so on. I don't want to make his height any taller. I'm not totally happy with his left arm. (Your right)

I am deliberetely.. deliberit.. intentionally not shading him, to keep time shaved and animations easier. This is also why he doesn't have a ton of details. But he isn't exactly screaming police detective, is he?

Danvzare

It looks nice. If you're going for a DotT look, then you'll probably want to make his head bigger.
Also his right hand (the hand we can see clearly) looks a bit big.
Lastly, his face has way more detail than any other part, and it looks a bit odd as a result.

Laura Hunt

Deliberately! :-D

It looks really cool! but I agree that there's something weird with his right side/arm, it definitely looks out of proportion.

A tiny bit more detail in the clothes would go a long way, in any case. Nothing huge, maybe just some wrinkles or buttons or a zipper, pockets for the trousers, I don't know, a little something to give it a bit more "life".

Looking really nice so far in any case!

Thanks both!

Shrunk his hand slightly. Redid the arm, still not 100% happy with it but it'll have to do. Shaded him slightly, doh! Gave him buttons on his shirt. (Reminds me of those kung fu tops!)
I also made his top slightly brighter.

UPDATE:

I realised if I remove the dark outline from his left arm to where it joins the body, it looks like it's part of his body now and not an extra limb growing out of him. Phew.

Apart from the buttons on his shirt making him look like he's wearing one of those Kung Fu tops (or a shirt with a lot of stitching in the center), it looks brilliant.
I recommend reducing the number of button to around 6-8. And instead of making them crosses, try making them grey dots. Throw in a collar, and boom, you'll be done.

ManicMatt

Cheers! Grey didn't work for me but I think this works! Okay okay, here's a collar! Oh I put some white in his eyes too.

Police Detective Boiled-Hard is on the case!

Danvzare

Perfect!  :-D
While there's always room for improvement, I personally can't find anything to point out.
Onto the next sprite I think.  (nod)

I thought the whites of the eyes stood out too much, so I made this wee edit:

Still waiting for Purity of the Surf II

Danvzare: Woohoo! It's unlikely I'll put anymore sprites in this thread however, I just always make it a requirement to have the main character get some outside feedback!

Kweepa: That's brilliant! Why did it never occur to me to use two pixels across for his pupils?! I have updated the sprite as such! Fortunately I haven't created any animation yet! Although when he is facing "down", he will either have to look to the side or I have the eyes four pixels wide for that view. I'll see how it looks come the time. Thanks!
