Revenants is a horror adventure (or a 2d survival horror game as rode put it). You play as Peter Stunch (stench, tee-hee!), a young man who travels to his grandmother's house in the village of Lindoom. But upon arrival, Peter finds to his horror that everything is not as it seems.

Revenants will be a very non-linear game. There is basically one big objective, as long as you achieve that, the game can end after just an hour or less or after several hours depending on how many of the secondary objectives (of which there is alot) you achieve. You can basically fight your way through the game,  but for fans of mystery/adventure it is easy to avoid combat, a lot of locations to explore and many mysteries to solve.

Screenshots and an old demo can be found at the game's website:

Here are some film clips from the game showing some of the effects that have recently been added to the game:

This game is going to rule!  P:DA is one of my favorite games so P:TA was already on my hype list, but I'll have to add this now too after playing the demo.
I can't wait!   :D

this is rather random, but Chrille, how do you get the right-click to cause an interaction on a hotspot or object?  You seem to do it in your game, and I've been trying to do that in my game and can't figure it out.  BTW, I promise my compliments weren't an excuse to ask that question  ;D  Your games really do rock!

It's easy, in the on_mouse_click in the global script,  just replace the code for the mouse-cycle thingy with

SetCursorMode (2);
ProcessClick (mouse.x,mouse.y,GetCursorMode());

Very cool, I just played the demo after watching the movies and thought it was really great.  The flashlight, footsteps, and sounds really make it very interesting and different than most adventure games I've played, I really like how you're taking the survival/horror to 2d, I think it's much more interesting that way, makes it more adventure gamey (a good thing!)

If you're interested in feedback, the only thing that I would really suggest (I believe it was mentioned in your gaspop forums as well) would be to make it more clear, perhaps via a cursor change, where the exits were.  The two that I had problems discovering were the kitchen-> pantry and the going off to the left from the first room in the game (that one is also tricky because you can kind of get up on the porch and it's not immediately clear you can walk over there.  But maybe it's not such a big deal since I did eventually figure them out.

Although on that note, I'm not sure I actually figured out everything in the demo, it sounds like you're able to do some combat stuff, but I never got to that point, I mostly wandered around picking up everything in site looking for puzzles and saw the creepy guy go by the door before I hit F10 trying to save and got dumped (probably should add a confirmation there, but this is a demo).  What's the trigger to "investigate" that appearence?

But in total, I really liked the presentation, interface, flashlight, controls, sounds etc. and in general, the commitment to making and finishing a GAME.

You can walk south from Peter's grandmother's house.

I'm telling ye, Chrille, this game is going to kick total ass. I can't wait, man, keep your sweet-ass shit up!

Oh, and BTW, I don't think it's that obvious that you can walk south from his grandmothers house...when you first released this demo, it took me forever to find the barn...I actually found it by accident.

This game is great as I've mentioned before,

Just a question though Chrille, With the mirror effect, is there a plugin or something for this or is it just scripting?

I need to use a mirror in my current game and noticed that atleast it is possible to do.

Chrille

Hehe, there is no plugin, but it's easy to do.

is it using maybe FollowCharacterEx and have another character that you swap the forward and backward states, but I'm not sure if follow character can place the character where you want, I'll have to have a play around with it.

am I totally off the track? a point in the right direction would be nice, thanks

Chrille

It's simply a character that is always set to the same x coordinate as the player's.

Hey Chrille, I have a greeeeeeeeeat idea! Why don't you release the Revenants source code??? It would rock!!

(Disclaimer: This was a joke)

On a more serious note, I have very high expectations for this game, but I know Chrille won't let us down. Can't wait to play it. Yey!

Oh, wow. This is really good! Just wish those AVI's had music under them, they just scream "SUSPENSE!" at you... reminds me of the 11th Hour. :) (in a good way, in case you're wondering)

UPDATE: 2003-05-06

Another movie clip has been added to the first post. It shows the new "note" system that Revenants will be using.

The "note" browser stores every book, note and similiar readable stuff that the player gathers throughout the game. You'll be able to browse through books, and compare one "note" item to another to gather new clues.
