Does the type of Fred's fish species play a role ?

Not relevant to the case:
Is "Fred" a popular name for a  fish? You got me there. (laugh)
Was Fred's home (bowl, aquarium, whatsoever) located near the sink ?
But let's say it's in the kitchen somewhere.

Did Anna pour the water from Fred‘s
bowl into a pot to make coffee or tea or
prepare food and Fred accidentally got into
the pot because he was so small and Anna
believed he still was in the bowl ?

This is practically the correct answer, except that it wasn't a pot.

Snarky

Electric tea kettle?

I'm still a bit confused about some of the incidental detail, like the breakfast on the table and the open doors. What is Anna doing "now"?

heltenjon

Okay, I'll count the case as solved. It was a joint effort, with a major breakthrough by dayowlron, but because I like the sound of it:

I am a loser is the winner!  :-D

Here's the plot as I envisioned it:
Spoiler
Anna woke in the morning, having overslept. She hurried into the kitchen to put on the coffee/tea before hitting the shower. She turned on the tap, but there was no water. She tore the letter from the fridge, squinting to read it, as she hadn't gotten around to her contact lenses yet. "Due to planned maintenance, the water supply will be temporarily closed until (...)" Oh no! She needed to wake up and craved her morning coffee/tea! What the heck, Fred won't mind, she thought, as she scooped up some water from Freddy Fish's bowl, pouring it into her trusted Mocca Master/Coffee Maker/Electric Tea Kettle. Without her contacts, she didn't notice that Fred was also in the scooped water. Anna ran to the bathroom and put on her contacts. No shower today then, but there probably wasn't time for it anyway. She hurried into the kitchen, leaving the door open behind her, ate a quick breakfast in the kitchen and went to work. Didn't the coffee/tea taste funny? That would be the last time she borrowed water from the fish bowl, that's for sure! Pressed for time, she didn't bother to clear the table or close the doors in the apartment. She also forgot to close the tap, which will start running water once the pipes are opened again.

Unfortunately, when she returns home and starts tidying and cleaning, she will also dicover poor Fred. Did he die of the heat (probably) or from the lack of water (probably not)? Anna won't want to think about it.

Admittedly, there are flaws in Anna's logic, and I'm not so sure about how these kitchen appliances work that I can be 100% sure of the cause of death. But you guys solved it, and I hope you had a good time pondering. Feedback as to how to improve the setup are welcome.

Do you want to host the next round, or pass it to someone else?

Ian Aloser

#114
I would rather pass it to someone else
I am not a native speaker and
also, i cannot think of a suitable riddle,
lack of fantasy, i‘m afraid
Also, i can't guarantee to be online the days to come
and i would hate to make the community wait

Nice one, heltenjon!

Well, if nobody else wants a go…

Case #61: A Perfectly Reasonable and Rational Response
I would have hated Gavin even if my wife hadn't left me for him. ("Gavin and Erin" â€" how perfect they were as a couple!) "Sporty and outdoorsy," she called him (unlike me), and I knew what that meant: stupid and outdouchey, someone who spends more time on his Fitbit and posting nature selfies (couple selfies, now) on Instagram than following the news or learning things. After the cops slapped that restraining order on me, I couldn't contact them or come within a hundred yards of them or their house, but I didn't need to. I'd be far away when they died.

How did I do it?

Cassiebsg

Did he sent a congratulations poisoned wine bottle?
Did he use a drone?
Did he sent a letter?
Did he sent a pack?
Did he fly a plane?
There are those who believe that life here began out there...

heltenjon

Did both Gavin and the wife die the same way?
Did he kill them both?
Did someone else kill them?
Did they die at home?
Are Social Networks (like Instagram) relevant for the murder?

Ian Aloser

Thanks for taking over Snarky,
I am still figuring out a plot

Assuming, that they haven't died yet:

Will using the Smartphone cause their death ?
Is it manipulated in some way ?

Riaise

Was the plan for their deaths already in action before the restraining order was given?
Was the restraining order a result of you doing something to cause their eventual deaths?
