Behavioural Analysis Unit - a specialist branch of the FBI based at Quantico.

I can put a new one up tomorrow.

Nice one!

I can't believe I leapt to nursery rhymes because of a completely unconnected one.

I'm the bumbling sidekick that says something unconnected and stupid and then the brilliant detective (CaptainD) says "Wait, what did you just say?!" as it makes his mind form the intuitive leap to solve the case.

Detective story tropes are forming freely in this thread... RUN!!!

CaptainD

Haha I think this is the first one of these I've ever actually worked out! It was your question about the nursery rhymes and Snarky's about the rhyme indicating further murders that put me on the right track.

The BAU are the stars of the completely unrealistic show Criminal Minds. Which I loved.

I thought cops asking the captured Riddler would be a nice device. Not my invention, they've done it in the comics, and  the trope is from Hannibal Lecter, who is in turn inspired by Bundy consulting. But you knew that. Riddler would, however, very likely catch a nursery rhyme pattern in the making, so there is a small clue there. Also, the title was "This serial killer had a pattern", which was meant as another hint to "This little piggy."

Looking forward to the Captain's log.

That is a great show! Yep, completely unrealistic but just watch one 50 min episode and you get a better detective mystery experience than watching most 2 hour murder mystery movies.

I had to search the web for the acronym BAU
and found over 20 meanings, some of them
were really funny, especially in this context
like the Bangladesh Agricultural University or the
french acronym for Emergency Stop Button
Ah, I have also learned a lot of nursery rhymes :-)

That was a brilliant riddle !

Stupot

I didn’t really keep track of this one. But good idea using a nursery rhyme.

CaptainD

Okay I've been racking my brains to come up with something interesting and original (which was more challenging than I thought, for ages every idea reminded me of an episode of either Monk or Criminal Minds!):  I think I have finally done it.  I hope so anyway...

I present:

Case #63

The victim was seen by thousands of people over a period of several months without anyone realising that a crime had been committed.

Thanks CaptainD for this new challenge:
To make it clear first:
Is the committed crime a murder ?

Was the victim‘s body preserved in some kind of medium ?
Was the victim‘s body easily visible to people passing by ?
Was the victim‘s body complete, i.e. no body parts were removed ?
Was the victim human ?

Was the victim‘s body preserved in some kind of medium ? (sort of... slightly tricky to answer this one with just yes or no!)

To be more precise about this one:
Was the victim‘s body preserved in some kind of medium ?
(sort of... slightly tricky to answer this one with just yes or no!)

Was the victim‘s surrounding some sort of gaseous fluid?
Was the victim‘s surrounding some sort of liquid fluid?
Was the victim‘s surrounding a vacuum ?
Was the crime discovered ?

I just want to be clear on your wording here:

Are you asking whether these fluids / vacuum were surrounding (outside) the victim?  Or the victim itself was surrounding these things (as in they were inside the body)?

Ian Aloser

Surrounding the victim,
Sorry for the confusion

CaptainD

No worries just wanted to make sure my answers are completely accurate!  ;-D

I apologize for my persistence :-)
Was the skin of the victim‘s face visible

Since when does a detective apologise for being persistent?!?!  :-D

For the people passing by and not noticing
a decay, there must be a reason
Was the victim‘s body preserved from inside (its body) ?
Was the victim‘s body located in a museum ?
