So it's someone who has reached Nirvana who will be reborn as someone who smiles a lot.

Well, actually it is sort of tied (the erased riddle).
It was the so-called MU-puzzle, by Hofstadter. From his book, Goedel-Escher-Bach, where he mentions buhhdism at times (although for flourish, mostly).

In my version (which is the same, just the symbols change), the system is the KYR, and the puzzle is if from that you can get the KR.
