Hi,

I've recently completed an 8bit Pixel Music Video for Goldfish's single 'We Come Together'.

Around 20 people from around the world worked on it.

See if you can spot the 'Sam & Max' and 'Day of the Tentacle' reference.

The up walkcycle is excellent.  The right walkcycle is a bit robotic (almost looks like he's kicking his leg forward) but it works.

Edit:  Since you've asked me for tips before, I've posted my edit to the right of the original to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.  Basically I just made the movement of the arms and legs smoother and brought the leg all the way down on a down step.  I also made him bob up and down naturally.  The head turning left and right is purely optional and something I did just to see how it would look.

Nice one! I like that new walking animation. Got some nice up and down happening on the character. Styling.

Ok, found a coder.

Thanks. He was quick like a ninja. Now if I could just get the EXE to work in Windows on my Mac. Doh.

Thanks man ;) Glad you liked it. Been a fan of adventure games for ages. Hopefully be able to get something a bit broader in scope together.

Hiya, I posted this also in the 'recruitment' thread.

I've done some tests for a room. I'm looking for a coder.

Here's the room:

If someone can take the files and make an AGM little test out of it? If it works like I think it does then I'll carry on and possibly plan out a more interesting thing. Guy takes fishbowl. It'd also be cool to get some scaling in the room with him getting bigger as he comes nearer to the foreground.

Any coders wanna work with me on this? Here are the graphic files:

Look forward to seeing this in action,

Mike

Drawn with a Wacom Intuos 3 and Wacom Cintiq 12WX tablets in Photoshop CS4 and animated in Anime Studio Pro 7.

Anian - strange I got quite a few comments that it reminded them of DOTT. Oh well. Thanks for suggestion.

@ mode7 - all done by hand man, scene by scene. Thanks for noticing the details ha ha.

@ abstauber - thanks man. Used to be a huge spongebob fan then I think I overdid it and now he grates me. Like, a spongebob overdose. Still though, I do see the similarities ha ha.

'baie mooi' and 'cape town represent'! Ha ha. Guess I'm not the only Lucasarts oldie-fan from South Africa ha ha. Shot okes.

@ Dualnames > thanks man. 'Baie Mooi' in Afrikaans means 'very nice'. Schweet.

Hiya,

I recently completed an animated music video for Cape-Town band 'Goldfish'. A lot of the stuff from old Lucasarts games like DOTT, SNM, Full Throttle etc ... inspired me. Anyone recall TUNNEL OF LOVE from Sam & Max? Anyways, I've had the comment on more than one occasion that the style reminded a person of DOTT. I really like that game. Also how the games deal with foreground objects with a little blur and darkened. Nice.

Here's the video: Goldfish - 'Get Busy Living':

As a side I really like the Maniac Mansion project going on here. Some of the stuff looks great! Would really like to help ... just concerned about time restraints and other projects. Also never really played through the MM game so not too sure what the deal is though I played through DOTT last year. Loved it.

gee whizz. Looks totally awesome. I may take on a room (single) as a project.

My work: http://www.bruandboegie.co.za

But your graphic artist is cooking it. Impressive.

Here's something I doodled recently for my own game test

edit by darth - please don't post unrelated art-work in the thread, thanks!

I recently replayed Sam & Max and Full Throttle, and DOTT not too long ago. Busy with Monkey Island II which I never played. Really nice! No voices though, playing a 6 MB thing I dl'd off the internet BUT I recently purchased a MI 1&2 CD off Amazon so I DO own the original cd's. My buddy is bringing it over from the UK for me. Other than that ... I enjoyed Indiana Jones and the FOA ... all of which makes me want to badly to make an adventure game. I think I'd be able to crack a pretty good Sam & Max art style if anyone wants to code ONE ROOM FOR ME I'll do the rest, just as a test. I was an artist in the now devoid fan-game Sam & Max: Flintlocked. We got SOMEWHERE but a little too ambitious at first perhaps.

Hi, I'm looking for a coder?

I do animation and drawing stuff and story stuff, just looking for a good AGS coder.

Some of my work:

Hiya, so I'm getting (hopefully) Win XP soon. I'm on Mac. I fiddled around with AGS years ago. The bug has again bitten.

I'm mainly doing animation, 2D. I have a strong video-game bent in my work.

Some animation stuff: http://www.bruandboegie.co.za/animation.php and here's my latest bit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=driJ4mHbPEI

So I wanna make a game. I would please like to know if there are any proficient coders of AGS out there who can do a snap goody job, can take direction, I'll provide everything else. Also, if you can recommend anyone you know who's awesome at coding, I can do pretty much everything else. At the moment what I'd be interesting in doing is just making ONE ROOM with a character walking around to test things out, see if we can work it nicely.

Been playing through some old Lucasarts games - Full Throttle, DOTT, Sam & Max: brilliant stuff.

SO, if there are any coders out there who know what they're doing and would like to work with me on making something awesome, please let me know.

Making another animation. When I draw these backgrounds I think it'd be awesome if I could make a game with them. I'm inspired by the old Lucasarts adventure game background artwork, particularly Steve Purcell's work.

Phemar > Howzit oke. Keef ek se ha ha. Yep. Plett & Joburg. Big fan of their tunes.

Others > Thanks guys. Not too keen on Windows I must say but if it goes on sale I might take the plunge and infect my Mac with it. I'll have to relearn AGS language.

Hi,

I finished my game here:

Jokes. I posted here recently enquiring about a Mac OS X port of the AGS editor. I've been bent on making an old-school adventure game for the last little while. I was able to mostly soothe my 8-bit craving by putting some of it into this animated music video.

1. Sam & Max: Hit the Road
2. Final Fantasy VII
3. Indiana Jones and FOA
4. DOTT
5. Grim Fandango
5. The Dig I guess

Thing is I was young and I played these games with spoiler guides just so I could see the artwork and didn't get the puzzles. Doh. So I guess I missed out.

I'm looking to find the cheapest place to buy Monkey Island 1 & 2. Anyone know? eBay?

Also, I was such a fan of Sam & Max that I flew from South Africa to visit ComiCon in San Diego to meet Steve Purcell, the creator of the characters. Was great. Also went to a talk with Dave Grossman. Must say, I played the first episodic Sam & Max and didn't grab me. There's something about those old blocky textures, man. In plain ol' 2D.

Well, I wish you luck man. It looks like a fantastic game and you've probably got adventure gamers gnashing at the bit all over the place.

Really cool. That kind of got me inspired a bit too. Ah, the flippen halcyon adventure gaming days of my youth. What made them so great, I think, is that I was trying to solve funny puzzles, and then I'd imagine what'd happen if I did x or y, and how cool it'd be if that worked. So even though it may not have happened, it still triggered my imagination and I felt the illusion of being in control of the cool stuff happening on screen, but it was only a clever trick by the script writers, developers, artists and animators who wove a spell for me. Still though, I'm such a fan of Sam & Max that I flew myself from South Africa to meet Steve Purcell in San Diego at COMICON 2006. DOTT, Indian Jones, S&M and some others had a HUGE influence on me. Even participated in a Sam & Max fangame a while back with some other punters; FLINTLOCKED - but as we soon discovered, putting together even one ROOM was a gargantuan task. Hope you fare better with your game ;)

Peace.

Thanks for the replies you guys.

I used to pirate stuff but no more. Played with my karma I do believe. Don't even own a pirated song. Turfed it all. I'm a good boy now, serious.

Anyways, might end up getting Parallels / Win XP or something. Reason I switched to Mac was to get away from the finickiness of Windows, nyeeargh nyeeargh nyeeargh but good to hear a vote on confidence from you StacyDavidson...hey, aren't you making Han Solo Adventures? I visited the forums recently and saw lots of posts by you.

Thanks.

Looked a little complicated. I'm looking for the easiest and most complete solution, looks like a lot of tinkering, and I have a phobia about tinkering too much. Not a fan of Windows, I must be honest.

As an alternative, do you know of anything remotely similar to AGS for Mac?

Thanks again,

Mike
