Beginners' Technical Questions / Odd black flashing background

Hi, I'm having a problem early on in trying to learn AGS, and I just can't work it out.
The first time I tried to run the game, (I'm following the tutorial and it's pretty much just a room with a background so far) it comes up with this:

It's meant to be this background by Custard http://www.btinternet.com/~ctswin/web/proper/7.PNG
Could anyone help me out please? Sorry if this is a stupid question - I have tried to find the solution on my own but I'm stumped.
