Episode II work has commenced, see original updated post for details.  Snootch to the nootch.

That does look interesting, I will have a look.

lol this is why I usually save porn game discussions for anonymous message boards.  As to this game I am curious to play it just for the novelty; you don't really see that many adventure games that are just outright porn, but I now find myself kind of wondering why not.  Downloaded the demo, will give it a whirl.

I have actually thought about making a game where you're the murderer.

I've wanted to do that, too.  If you think about it most adventure game protagonists tend to be a little on the antisocial side anyway; these games constantly have the player destroying property or stealing things or doing generally mean things to innocent people.  Murder isn't that much of a stretch, and it would make for some interesting gameplay.

Soundtrack of the game is here:

Awesome, thank you.  This music is actually quite creepy outside the context of the game; I think I'm going to play this in my car the next time I'm driving someone around and see how freaked out they get.

Hey all, this is a short game I made to contribute to the Adventure Jam 2016 competition at GameJolt.  It's pretty short and a little rough around the edges, and I consider it sort of a rough draft as I still have quite a few things I would like to do to it that I didn't have time to get done before time ran out.

Anyway, this game is sort of a mashup between the television series Frasier and the Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe.  The average person can probably play through it in about 30 minutes.

Story:

Frasier Crane is a wealthy and successful local radio celebrity.  He has his own call-in psychiatry show, a posh penthouse apartment in Seattle, and a razor-sharp intellect.  However, his father, Martin Crane, who lives with him, has recently been driving him up the wall.  His dog, Eddie, constantly stares at him, his coarse, blue-collar demeanor clashes sharply with Frasier's high-brow sophistication, and, perhaps worse of all, is the ratty old chair he insists on keeping in the living room.

It's enough to drive a man...insane.

This version of the game is fully playable, although I didn't have much time to test it and there may be a few odd bugs I didn't catch.  Let me know if you have any trouble.  Comments and criticism appreciated as always.

Somethings I want to add to this in the near future:

- Music
- Sound
- Expanded animations for some of the cut scenes
- More rooms
- More characters from the show
- Add more/better puzzles and increase interactivity

Completed Game Announcements / Re: Rabbit Hill

Just played it, very clever game, I really enjoyed.  I was actually a bit disappointed at the length, I think I could have stayed in that world a bit longer.  The atmosphere was perfect for a horror game.  The sound design was very rich and really brought the world to life, it also added heavily to the tension.  I never really felt "at ease" while playing this, I always felt like something was going to jump out at me.

Spoiler
The fact that several things actually did jump out helped the mood a lot too; the classic something jumps out, "oh, it's just a cat" trick was a good addition.  Also, the fact that you are constantly coming across dead bodies helps keep the player on their toes.

You have clearly spent a lot of time watching horror movies.  This game does everything a good horror movie is supposed to do; it keeps you walking on eggshells through the whole thing, constantly tense and bracing yourself for some kind of horrible surprise on the next screen.

Spoiler
I was legitimately apprehensive going into places like the Tower and the treacle mine.  Also, what exactly is treacle, anyway?  That's been bugging me.  Anyway, good job with atmosphere and mood.

The graphic style was interesting too.  The technique of compositing photographs of actual locations and videos of people to create the art as opposed to drawings or CGI reminds me a little of Gabriel Knight: The Beast Within (I think your composited environments were actually better done; as much as I liked that game some of the art in Beast Within was cringe-inducing).  There were a couple of places

the farm and the exterior of the tower, as well as a couple places in the woods
[close]
where it was kind of easy to tell that the photographs had been taken at a different time of day than what the game is made to look like.  Still, the overall result was pretty good.

Puzzle design was also good.  Puzzles were all challenging, but not unreasonably strange or hard to figure out without applying some simple logic.
Spoiler
The only place where I got stuck and had to check the walkthrough was the bit about recharging the cell phone.

I like games that create puzzles out of the environment and the character's objective, rather than the whole "put the party hat on the weasel and set it loose in the air duct in order to get the alarm clock" kind of shtick that gets a little tedious sometimes in adventure games.

Also, I did find one minor error:

Spoiler
The meter works fine in the screens preceding the tower, but once you get to the actual tower itself and the meter gets automatically put away, the needle is all the way back at zero if you take the meter out again on the screen where you're standing outside the tower.  Haven't tried it inside the tower but I rather expect it's the same thing.  Very minor continuity thing.

All told, great game!  Had fun playing it, I will have to check out your other titles.

Hey, I started playing this game back in August, got stuck towards the end and set it aside, just picked it up again a couple of days ago, so my review is a bit belated.

I will start off by saying I thought this was a very entertaining game.  I'm fond of this sort of dark humor, and the combination of Disney characters with a gritty noir/horror theme is pure genius.  The vulgarity of it made me laugh too; as someone else I think said about it, I'll never look at Daisy Duck the same way again.

I don't think anyone else has mentioned the music, so I would just like to say that I loved the music.  The abstract lo-fi creepiness of it really accented the art and overall style of the game; the whole thing feels like it was done by some sort of deranged juvenile mental patient, and I mean that in the best possible way.  I would be willing to pay actual money for a soundtrack, if you ever decided to release one.

Some of the puzzles were a little bit strange and hard to guess, and I needed a couple of hints here and there to get through the game.  However, everything made sense in its own demented way and I think the overall pace and flow of the game was well done.

I know this game is based off of the Donald Duck comics, which I'm sad to say I've never really read, but I do remember watching Duck Tales growing up and it was hilarious watching these characters in this kind of story.  I don't know if you're familiar with the show Darkwing Duck, but it ran around the same time period as Duck Tales and was set in the same universe as far as I know.  I would be faintly curious to see that world get the same treatment at some point if by any chance you needed an idea for a sequel or something.  Or even a direct sequel to this would be interesting.

Spoiler
I'm curious to know what happened to Uncle Scrooge's money bin now that nobody technically owns it.

Hey all.

It was recently brought to my attention by Theyeyboss that the version of this game that was available for download did not work properly.  The game did not include a winsetup.exe program and would display an error message when attempting to load the game.  When I overhauled my website a month or so ago, I took everything down and then put it back up when the new website was complete.  Turns out that I uploaded a messed-up version of The Adventures of Stanley "Frankfurter" Jones by mistake.

Anyway, the issue has been corrected, and the game should download without any issues from both the AGS site and my website, www.therealmuffin.net.  If you have downloaded The Adventures of Stanley "Frankfurter" Jones within the last month or so and have been unable to play it, please download it again.  It should work just fine now.

I apologize for any emotional distress, broken families, suicide attempts, or substance abuse issues the temporary unavailability of this game may have brought about.  If there are any further issues with this or any of my other games feel free to contact me regarding them.  Thank you and enjoy the game.

Read the chemical recipes carefully.  Is 5 the value you need?  You might need to multiply. As to the nutmeg, it's not what you think, it's what Pete thinks that's important.  Is he frustrated enough to give up, or does he seem willing to keep searching?

yeah, I am sorry about this issue guys, several people have gotten stuck in the same place for the same reason.  Part of it is just bad puzzle design on my part.  I swear I am going to fix it and post an updated version of the game soon, I have just been buried in schoolwork lately and haven't quite gotten it yet.:)  If anyone else has already figured out how to guess the pass but is still stuck trying to enter it into the browser:

Spoiler
Once you have figured out the password, you use the terminal option to reset password to whatever you want, and use the new password on the browser.  If you guess the correct password but enter it into the browser without resetting it first it will tell you the pass is correct and open the window, but the cutscene that is then supposed to happen doesnt get triggered.

Also, a little something extra for people stuck on cracking the pass :P

Spoiler
type the phrase "how do I hack computer?" into the terminal.

Here is what is supposed to happen:

Spoiler
Once you change the password and login using the new password, the browser window will open and the night guy will say "I can take it from here" and the game will exit back to the office.  You shouldn't be able to click on the window at all.  At this point the guy should give you the book.

Like I said what you are describing doesn't sound right so I am going to go back in and check the code.  Meanwhile try logging in and not clicking anything when the browser window appears, see if that does the trick.

Hm, that actually doesn't sound right.  You might have found a bug.   Let me run through it and see if I can figure out what's going on.

Thought I would throw up a hints thread in case anyone needs it :)

Hi all!

To anyone who has been keeping up with my occasional posts to my game in production thread for this game, then good news:  your long wait is partially over!  Although I have overshot my original target date of Summer 2014 by quite a bit, I am happy to report that my latest target date of Fall 2015 has more or less been hit.  I think technically I said I would have it done BEFORE fall, but whatever; during is just as good.

This game is the first chapter in what will eventually be a full-length sequel to my previous game, The Adventures of Stanley "Frankfurter" Jones.  If you have not yet played the original game, I would suggest playing it first as this game builds upon the story.  Here is the thread topic for the first game:

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=47291

Following the events of the first game, Stinky Pete McCullogh is now living in a government-sponsored care facility for troubled youth.  His obsession with magic and the occult, along with his numerous and incessant attempts to contact Stanley "Frankfurter" Jones (a person his psychiatrists are convinced is imaginary), has earned him a reputation as a serious head case.  For the past year, his life has been dreary and uneventful; however, all of that changes one rainy night when he receives a very cryptic message sent to him in the form of a dream...a message sent by what appears to be a ghost.

Join Pete as he attempts to outwit and outmaneuver his wily captors.  He'll need to harness all of his extremely limited wits if he wants to escape this nightmarish facility and help his friend, a man who only he believes is real.

WARNING:

Much like it's predecessor, this game is.....not especially politically correct.  This game contains coarse dialogue, adult themes, explicit references to all sorts of nasty practices, and humor that you have to be pretty messed up to appreciate.  If you are the kind of person who is easily offended, you probably shouldn't play this game at all.  If you are the kind of person who is NOT easily offended, but will eventually become offended if someone is trying hard enough to offend you, know that this game puts forth a valiant effort.  Fair warning.

Here is the direct download link:

http://www.therealmuffin.net/games/frankfurther.zip

The game has also been posted to the AGS games database:

I feel like there will eventually be as few as 3 and as many as 5 chapters to this project, and my suspicion is that it's going to be quite a long stretch of time before the whole thing is finally done.  Now that this chapter is finished and uploaded, I will probably be taking a short hiatus from the project in order to finally finish up an old game I started work on about 5 years ago, as well as try to bang out another project for which I have had the idea rattling around in my head for some time now.  Considering that I pretty much started on this game immediately after the first game was done, I have been working on pretty much nothing but SFJ since about 2011 or so, and I kind of feel like I want to work on something else for a change.  However, once those projects are done I would like to get right back to this one.

That said, I would like to just take a quick moment to thank anyone who played the first game, as well as anyone who plays this game, for their interest.  The thought of attempting to at some point finish this game and wrangle it into some sort of attempt at a commercial release has been flitting across my mind lately, and I am curious to know who is playing this game and what they think of it.  If you played this game all the way through and feel strongly enough about it one way or the other to tell me what you think of it, I would be delighted to hear from you.

Also, if anyone who has any talents would be interested in possibly lending their talents to this project at some point in order to help get it done a little faster, I would be very interested in hearing from them as well.  I currently am looking for 3D artists, animators, sound designers, and possibly some coders willing to take the occasional odd job off my shoulders.  Let me know if you are interested.

Sorry, I am stuck again.

Spoiler
I am in the same place as Tsa I think.  I just made the flute and I think I know what to do from the hints, but I am missing the rope.  What general area is it located in?

I keep meaning to get in on one of these but never do it.  Two rooms sounds like a good limitation, as the last time I tried to do a MAGS game...well, it is still technically being worked on.  I always want to turn everything into a huge game.  Anyway I love Steven King and this seems like as good a time as any so, I think I may tentatively be in.  Possibly.

I am stuck in Hicksville.

Spoiler
I just gave the poison to the gnome, and went inside the barn. I talked to the wolf's son and he gave me the flyer. I am not sure what to do next. I think it involves getting the knife away from the pig somehow but I can't figure out a way to do it.

UPDATE:  Episode 1 of the sequel to this game is very nearly complete.  I have posted an update to the development thread detailing it.  In order to whet people's appetites and remind them that this series exists, I decided to release a brief updated version of the original game.  It's not a huge update, in fact most players probably won't notice a difference.  However, I did iron out a few bugs, most notably a rather serious one that could cause an unwary player to become trapped in the basement.  I also modified the bonus audio system so that the mp3 files add to the player automatically, and the Gatsby chapters now add in chronological order, regardless of where they are found.

The link to download is exactly the same.  At some point I would really like to do a complete overhaul of this game, particularly with improved graphics.  However, this has been my only significant AGS project since 2012 and I am getting a little tired of doing SFJ, so I am hoping to take a break once chapter one of the sequel is done and maybe try to bang out something a little more serious.

On a side note, I would also kind of like to find a talented artist interested in collaborating on a real project.  I can't draw for s---, and my 3D is passable at its absolute best.  I prefer the hand-drawn look for adventure games anyway, I only use 3D because it's all I can do.  However I feel pretty confident about my game design, writing and programming abilities these days.  If anyone who can draw is looking for a designer/writer/coder to hook up with by all means PM me.

Posting a quick reply in order to bump the thread and draw everyone's attention to the update which is explained in detail in the main message.  I hope to have this game done by Fall.
