Whats the easiest way to go about making an arcade/rail shooter section?

Its just for one room, i also want for the section the character to have a life bar of some sort, to track how much damage he has taken, I also want to ave in hud bullet "objects" that disappear each time a shot is fire (classic rail shooter style),  I know thats a lot for one room, I also want the enemy (theres is only one) to take about 5 shots before dying (not just a single shot).
Any help would be awesome, I am but a feeble simple peasant of the Ags system.

PS. My game is built with a context sensitive Broken Sword style cursor set up. i figured that might in some way make the intergration easier

Cheers.

Ok, basically what I want will seem probably simple to most of you wizz-kids, but me being a noobus had no idea, how can I make an option appear in the dialogue, after the player has observed something, (IE. Look  at a poster, gain a dialogue option to talk to NPC about poster, See a flower pot vase, gain an option to ask about flowers)

Any help or advice would be awesome.

I have over the last few months, bought a few games off a company called "City Interactive" I recently played their mobile game "Crime Files." I also have a few of the "Chronicles of mystery" and "Art of murder" series. They seem to be spitting out game in very rapid sucession it would make Sierra sweat. Now "Crime files." wasn't bad, a bit bland and the story wasn't really the writing of Charles Cecil but being a mobile game it didn't have voice acting so I have no stance on that, so anyone who's played the pc games will have to give me their oppinion. But all in all I want your oppinions on their games and the companies game philosphy, I couldn't find much written overall anywhere else except reviews of the game themselves, I want to know about the much broader circle, are these games any good, are they buggy, are they worth playing or are they just cool to play in lack of anythng better?

Here is the issue i got, the context is that I want to borrow a characters phone, combine it on my phone to take down his phone number. Give his phone back to him and than call him as a way to distract him:

GlobalScript.asc(395): Error (line 395): buffer exceeded: you probably have a missing closing bracket on a previous line

Code: ags

function cCop_UseInv()
{
if (player.ActiveInventory==iCopPhone){
  if (game.score==(3)){
  player.Say ("here is your phone back);
player.LoseInventory(iCopPhone)}}
  else {player.Say ("Not quite yet.");}
}

if (player.ActiveInventory==iPhone){
 if (game.score==(0)){
 player.Say ("Why would I want to do that?");}
 else if (game.score==(4)){
 player.Say ("We'll just give him a little ring shall we.");
 cCop.ChangeView(16);
cCop.Walk(90, 541, eBlock);
cCop.LockView(18);
cCop.Clickable=false;
GiveScore(1);}}}

ALSO! I am having issues with my inventory:  I am using Khris's Broken sword style script along with "when mouse moves to top of screen" Inventory GUI type, now its all working perfectly, my issue is the cursor when you have an inventory item, and you go back to the inventory as you would to combine two items, it changes back to the "Walk" or "Pointer" icon (I can't tell which because in my game because of the broken sword style they're both the same). It still combines the items, but when the cursor is not the inventory item, i'm thinking it would be confusing for the player, sorry if this isn't a clear explaination, its complicated to explain for noobs like me.

As an experienced adventure gamer who grew up in the 90's in adventures golden era...

I have played many games... My entire collection can be foune here

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=42318.0

(Suggest something for me to play if you know any I don't have)...

I find the issue with adventure gaming in 2010... is simple... there is nothing new being made commercially... a little smatter of Run Away and The Longest Journey topped with the Odd One hit wonder commercial game... but the major studios behind adventure that are doign the most advertising and pushing of the adventure game market are -at least I think- unfortunately just selling new versions of old franchises...

Even broken sword has seemingly ceased being made and are now just shoveling out remakes (Broken Sword: Directors Cut + Beneath a Steel Sky Rrmastered)... and telltale is one of the worst... I buy their products... sure some are quite enjoyable... but they seem like fan games... because they have such a nostalgic relationship with the games that the developed become fans of the game itself and thus are too scared to try anything progressive or inovative...

The tales of monkey island for example really didn't have anything new... Just another cliche Guybrush story... tho for my money lacked a lot of humor... Because they were too scared to do anything that may upset the Series' Fandom... these games like King's Quest, Broken Sword, Monkey Island etc, etc. were classics FOR A REASON... they were something new and interesting, something we didn't have before.... So why is the adventure game Genre "dead"... I believe its simply because no one is making anything truly new or interesting... I daresay Roberta was a genius she took it from text to graphic adventure game with parsor to fully voice acted point and click...

I really respect what Bill Tiller is doing with August Moon Also.... A vampyre Story and Ghost Pirates were actually for my money rather enjoyable games..  tho many are quick to point out their flaws at least Bill had the guts to try and do something new... even tho a lot of people will by default make comparisons between Ghost Pirates and Monkey Island (Which is crazy... just because they both have pirate themes... Is XXX with Vin Diesel a James Bond film just because it has a destructive none-too-careful spy?)

So when will the adventure game company stop just rehashing old shit to make a quick buck.. when are they gonna try and take a risk instead of playing safe and selling nostalgia and start making NEW CLASSICS!?

Hey guys, I wanted some game suggestions... when I was wee lad of a bout 4 or 5ish... I was bitten by the adventure game bug... I even remember going out and buying "King's Quest 5" from an average commercial video game store... and amazed at how great everything looked... except that fuckin desert puzzle... and I remember being a bit perturbed by the import of Verb Coin system in Monkey Island 3... because it was so different and also a bit strange to hear Guybrush speak after all these years... adventure gaming is an obsession that only grew... and i've over the years collected quite a library... and was wondering if anyone could suggest any games I haven't played or own... Strangechicken Games is proud to present:

Fight For Life: A new original Adventure-Thriller from the mind of Aaron Ducker...

Story:
Jason Ridge's little brother Harley has been diagnosed with a rare terminal illness... he must make his way to the hospital, and gather rare ingredients to make the concoction that may be Harley's only chance of survival... but thats just the beginning of this adventure thrill-ride... Join Jason, as he makes his way thru, worlds of darkness and hellish realms where reality... is just as twisted as fantasy!

Are you game... to fight for life!?

Here are some screenshots:

Screenshot 1:

Screenshot 2:

Fight For Life will feature a full soundtrack, and full voice acting (hopefully, I still need a few voice actors.. mostly male... if you can help in this regard... I'd love to hear from you).

Progress:
-Scripting/Animation 30%
-Backgrounds/Rooms 50%
-Story 100%
-Dialogue 20%

Also... I am intending to make this into a trilogy and have all 3 games stories already fully written... each with a different protagonist and story... So I hope you stick around...

I'm having an issue with the playVideo script command...

When I play my game IN debug mode... everything works fine, the videos play pretty perfectly.. HOWEVER... when i play the game... when I click "Run without Debugger"... it freezes rightbefore the video starts... doesn't crash... just completely freezes the game... why is this happening?

Ok, I'll explain what I wanna do...

In different rooms, my character has to change between sizes....  EG in the school yard he's smaller... than when he gets inside the school building he becomes larger (EG. as in cinematically he is Closer up), the standard character is the largest size version of the character (Jason), and i created a smaller version of the character, and told the game to change view to the walk cycle where Jason is smaller... but, the issue is.. if he click on anything, he'll go to the defaul talk cycle, which is a lot larger then the walk cycle i made for that room... so he becomes like a Just-add-water godzilla... is there anyway, I can make it not go to the talk cycle.. or have a specific walk cycle (character size)... just for that room?

Hey guys,

I'm having an issue with my inventory... I can click on an object... which in turn gives me an inventory item... thats all grand....

But I can't use my inventory at all... I have the "when mouse moves to the top of screen"  Visibility setting... Which comes down showing my inventory as it should when i get to the the top... all good.. but when I try to click an Item, where the function should be for the cursor should be to change to the selected item... it just does nothing, so I can't use my inventory at all... because I can't take items out of it for use...

I am using Khris's Broken sword style script which can be found here:  http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=35247.0...

and it all works fine... except this blasted inventory which is practically unclickable

Here is my script on the issue:

Quote
function on_mouse_click(MouseButton button) {
  // called when a mouse button is clicked. button is either LEFT or RIGHT
  if (IsGamePaused() == 1) {
    // Game is paused, so do nothing (ie. don't allow mouse click)
  }
  else if (button == eMouseLeft) {
    ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, mouse.Mode );
  }
  else if (button == eMouseRight){
    // right-click
    if (mouse.Mode == eModeUseinv) mouse.Mode = eModeWalkto;   // loose inv item
    else ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, eModeLookat);             // or look at ...
  }
  else if (button == eMouseMiddle) {
    // Middle-button-click, default make character walk to clicked area (a little shortcut)
    // Could have been just "player.Walk(mouse.x,mouse.y)", but it's best to
    // leave our options open - what if you have a special script triggered
    // on "walking" mode?
    ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, eModeWalkto);
  }
  else if (button == eMouseLeftInv) {
    if (mouse.Mode == eModeUseinv) inventory[game.inv_activated].RunInteraction(eModeUseinv);
    else {
      player.ActiveInventory = inventory[game.inv_activated];
      // mouse.Mode = eModeUseinv;
    }
  }
  else if (button == eMouseRightInv) {
    if (mouse.Mode == eModeUseinv) mouse.Mode = eModePointer;
    else inventory[game.inv_activated].RunInteraction(eModeLookat);
  }
}

Please be gentle... I don't have much experience with this, any feedback would be appreciated

This short (one room) game was made as part of my university project i wrote on Agitprop the premise is as follows:

You (A.P.) have just woken up locked in a room, a prison your oppressors put you in, your goal, with your knowledge of Agitational Propaganda theatre, is to escape the room by unlocking the key put in a glass case to mock you, these people have taken your voice, you must regain your voice, take the key, and escape this oppressive room into freedom.

(Note that it is consided by the author to be somewhat vital to read the manual to further understand agitprop theatre and to finish this little game).

A screenshot  or two you say? well its right here sir/madam/ungendered-person-that-you-are

it was put together in about two days... and recorded all the voices while having the flu (oh what fun it was and still is)...

So anyway, my friends (although according to my mother you're just on the internet and not real), I hope you enjoy this basic yet educational game... and if you don't... i'll cry a fountain of tears (not really... just getting your hopes up, I'll probably just say meh whatever and move on).

The games is as the subject title implys, about the TV show Supernatural, it's very -ahem- art house and -cough- abstract. The game is in 1st person and due to the fact it's based on still photographs there is no animation (excluding the mouse cursor animations). right now there's only one relatively simple puzzle, voice clips from the first season of the show and a few songs in the intro an outro of the show. there is also some -cough- brilliant acting from Aaron Ducker. plus there is a couple of rock songs in the intro and outro of the game.

heres a couple of screen shots:

the story pretty much so far goes; Sam and Dean Winchester are on a routine hunting trip but this hunting trip might easily turn to be one hell of an adventure, play the demo to find out what happens.

N.B. You are dean in the closing movie so that's why Dean isn't seen in the room in the end of the demo, because you are now looking through his eyes.

you can download it here

well i hope you enjoy it!

AGS Games in Production / Rough Diamond (Demo)
Tue 28/08/2007 10:51:49
Allrighty then... this is my first game or at least game demo besides the one i did to try out ags.

It is called rough diamond and it is about kyle, a man who wants to be a rockstar. to do this you will need three things an instrument, a minibus (to get from gig to gig) and of course, the band.
so far it features:

> four great characters

> an awesome rock/rock and roll sound track featuring such acts including Blue Oyster Cult

> 3 different rooms

> the same type of mouse (coin verb) that was used in LucasArts' The Curse of Monkey Island

> very "special" background and character artwork done by me

> and some jokes and material that won't be available in the final version of the game

so yea, enjoy it.
