Advanced Technical Forum / Re: The Realm...

Hey... I'm back and hopefully doing better than last time. Lost my password. Anyway, for the short of the stick...

I'm trying to figure out the TCP/IP plugin 0.0.3 and have been reading about some evolutionary errors cropping up. Buffer overflow, etc. Lost most of my C++, so can't help there.

However, I have been using PennMUSH to run a game that I have been developing for about a month now and want to try and take it graphical. I would like to try and figure out someway to use TCP/IP plugin so that I could write an AGS client to the game. Would anyone be interested in helping me out with this? Is this even feasible? I think it is, it's just a matter of figuring out how to work the plugin in ags 2.7.2.

Help?

Especially considering print screen is not working on my computer for some annoying reason. I've never been able to take screenshots of DOS stuff under XP. :(

I already tried AGIStudio's save function, but the problem is that AGIStudio doesn't center the images the way one would expect. It seems kind of silly to me to sit there and have to either remove the score bar manually from every single screen shot or have to re-align every single bmp file. Is there an easier way to do this? Some kind of a center function in AGS?

General Discussion / RE: AGI2AGS graphics...

I have noticed that in the black cauldron remake, DreamMaster has some how managed to take the old AGI graphics and convert them to 320x200. Anyone know of a simple way to do this?

COOL! Thanks. Very much. :)

OK. I was checking out the download section for AGS to see if I could find the manual and try and figure out the Text Parser stuff. I found this German Tutorial Site for SQ3, 4 and 6 under the Resources. So, I downloaded the tutorial files and they came out as AGT files. What the heck is an AGT file?! I can't open it in anything and when I search Google for the file association, it tells me there is a program in alpha testing and I can't get a hold of it...? Help, please.

Hey. Is L2 still in production or is it like totally gone now? I tried the website in the topic but couldn't get through. IE says that it cannot find the sever. :(

Thanks. :)

OK. When I first started working with AGS, I could set up a 320x200 game and then in the run-time engine, instead of offering 320x200 and 640x400, it would list 320x200, 640x400 and 800x600. I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to get the new run-time to list all three again or if it will just list the two most relevant settings period...?

OK. I was sitting here looking at the settings for the game I am working on and was wondering, is there any way to have the game set up for all resolutions? Or just 800x600, 640x480 and 320x240 or all resolutions instead of just, say, 800x600 and 640x480?

Also, in the runtime engine setup utility, what is this "Run Replay" option? I have never been able to figure out what this option does.

OK, netmonkey. :) I do know my C/C+/C++/C# crap. Uh, is AGS designed only for Delphi, or is there a free version of Delphi that I could use somewhere out there? I have tried projects which require VC++ but say they are compatibe with generic environments and then when you go to compile the silly thing wont work. So I wanna make sure that this is possible and feasible before I do so.

Also, let's continue using The Realm as an example for this... How would the client/server for that work? In theory. Wouldn't there be a server program which SCIW is programmed to connect to, but at that point is SCIW a real live program or is it just a shell through which the server produces what we see? I have tried to figure that out for a while. Is it a server-side server or a client-side server? I know that Half-Life could be considered a client-side server, but how do things like this normally work?

OK. Is there some way to code a server that could accept AGS client connections?

I already kind of figured that The Realm would use a slightly modified version of SCI. From my understanding, though, I thought that all copies of SCIW were client versions set to one-player for like SQ5 and such and then set to multi-player when being used for The Realm.

However, I had always assumed that the server for The Realm was just a more advanced program written for the SCIW or SCI32 engine. Does this make sense to anyone else? If so, does anyone else have any idea how one might go about writing a server like this with AGS and then a Client for AGS to work with this Server?

Hey guys. Sorry to point it out, but the link to the TCP/IP demo game is down. Anyone know of any other links to the demo?

OK. I have been thinking, as I said once before, I am interesting in making a Space Quest-oriented multiplayer game, kinda try and open up the SQ universe and give it the ability to evolve...

Anyway, I was checking out The Realm earlier today and found that they were still using SCIW for their server and client...

In a nutshell, is it possible to use AGS to create a similar system to The Realm? How would one go about writing a server in AGS and the client?

Hey guys. Major change in plans. :)

I'm going to just plain old remake the game from almost scratch instead of just ripping the graphics and such. :)

All the graphics are going to be 3-D Rendered instead of just ripped. There will be a minor change in the story and some major additions to the maps. Unfortunately, because I am rendering the graphics instead of just ripping them, this time they will take quite a while. I'm anticipating two months each for SQI and SQII EGA.

OK. The last time that I actually kept up with AGS 2.x, there was a site with a ton of plugins. I can't find that site anymore and there are a couple of plugins that I am looking for. Unforutnately, the only one that I can remember by name off hand would be the weather plugin which simulated rain and snow and such. Anybody know where the plugins have gone?

Alright. I want to go from the shitty 2-dimensional games to the 3-dimensional games, like Everquest. I would like to upgrade the story a little bit, give Roger more of a logical part and then to expand on the maps, like giving the Arcada a Bridge.

I would like to remake the entire series, but at the moment, that is more of an eventual goal than a reality. At the moment, I just want to assemble a team, have the team pick which one to remake and then go from there.

The top right of our site has six little oval buttons. The second one on the left column reads Forums. Use that one for the moment. Staff is just about us staffers. :)

Lemme know if you need more elaboration and feel free to make use of the SQR Forums if you would prefer to clutter my system versus the AGS system. ;)

OK. After having spoken to some of my fellow clergy and having spoken to a few people on here, they don't really want to see the old Space Quest with AGI, SCI or AGS, they want something new and interesting. So I'm switching from AGS to Wintermute. I would continue to post here at this point, but it would most suredly be a mute point. :/

I'll keep checking in and such, but I figured that I would post a update on here before I totally disappeared. :)

I hope that I am posting this in the right topic...

It has been brought to my attention that there are people out there who would rather see the Space Quest games upgraded versus just renovated. Seeing as this is the case, is there anyone out there that would be interested in generating some new music and graphics for this project? At the moment, we are still working on the first game.

Please feel freee to come over to our forums at http://www.bpcent.com/sq/remakes and then click on the forums link. :)
