Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Voice Actor!
Wed 08/06/2011 16:14:11
Hi,

I'm a British actor, I haven't done much V-O before but I REALLY want to do some videogame voice acting. I'm flexible, and can do American accents if required. I do not require payment or anything, just an enthusiastic and communicative team leader :)

Here are some samples I've recorded:

Oh, and an extra image for you to look at ;)

There would be more, but freewebs hates me right now...

Time for the writer to do some work for a change! :D

Work continues apace. The art is mostly done (and trust me, it rocks!) and we're starting to nail together game mechanics, structure etc...I am writing the puzzle structure slowly if only because it's painfully easy to make mistakes. It is also a problem that my personal life likes to take revenge on my attempts to get this game written, but don't worry, I am not giving it up. None of us are :)

ADVERT: We need someone who can do large scale fire effects. The software the artists use is good for small-scale candle sized fire, but there is a scene in which I require a raging inferno - is there anybody who can create such an effect?

PM me if you can!

Yeah, it'll be free :) Though I want to distribute it as much as I can. I'm probably going to try and write to a couple of mags about it once we have something of true substance to show them...

Wow, so much new feedback :D

Silent Hill did have an influence, but only to an extent. I also wrote some stories a way back that gave me some atmosphere ideas. It's sort of a milieu of a lot of things; oddly, Arthur Miller's The Crucible also had an influence, but only in the sections set in the past. Also Alone in the Dark, Lovecraft novellas...I just wanted to create something that was scary but also kind of sad - in the despair sense.

CosmoQueen: Not sure what film you're thinking of. There will be sections where you can die, but I don't want your death to be a 'Oh, you walked over the cliff and you died. Dumbass!' kind of deaths, rather that if you do die, it's because you failed to act quickly enough.

It's nice to know we have so much positive support! :D The game's moving on nicely. I'm a bit demanding of myself, so I never rush the actual writing of it. Hopefully we should get this game out sometime soon, though I do intend for us to have a demo to show off first (not ready yet either, but hopefully soon we'll be able to sort it out :))

A majority of the background artwork is now completed. We are working on characters, I am writing out the rest of the script and hopefully we will soon start composing music for it.

This project is not dead; it will be finished ;)

Looks good..

Well, you are working on it my friend ;)

Anyway, work is progressing smoothly. The team is working on animating the lead characters, before working on the smaller characters.

And there are a lot of twists and turns in this baby :)

Michael Sandon, grief-stricken after the death of his wife and daughter in a car crash, is told to take a break. He hopes a short holiday in the town of Hallow's End to stay with his brother will ease his pain and his constant insomnia.

It will do nothing of the kind. Arriving in Hallow's End one foggy evening, Mike finds his problems only getting worse. Soon, he finds himself caught up in a horrific string of events that Mike may have to risk his soul to escape. The only other person who seems prepared to help him is Kate Keider, a woman suffering from terrible dreams after the suicide of her husband. And nearby, haunting Mike's nightamres, is the Laughing Man. A creature determined for Mike to be condemned to eternal torment.

Hallow's End; the place where all souls must go.

Everyone goes to Hallow's End eventually.

These are the first sneaky-screens of the game, all backgrounds. Production is still fairly early, but we're working hard on it!

All pictures are by my art team (credited on the website)

I just hope you guys are intriguied enough to encourage our endeavours :)

Backgrounds - 30%
Characters - 15%
Scripting - 0%
Music - 0%
Dialogue/Puzzles - 25%

All early days as you can see, but we hope this builds up interest gradually :)

Thanks guys

Keira and Orlando are just damp fireworks.
True, but they play the nice characters. Orlando Bloom isn't supposed to be funny, and Keira isn't supposed to be tough. It's their characters, and also, they shouldn't change. Their dependence on others make the other characters important. Look at The Mummy. Great movie. The characters were funny, clever, and each had their own flaws. In The Mummy Returns they've changed way too much.
I think POTCII balanced the characters out just fine.
And of course, Jack Sparrow kicks ass.

No, I don't ever accept the excuse that they're 'supposed' to be like that. The characters could have been more fun, could have been more interesting - but they just left them as pretty poster boys. Yes, The Mummy Returns changed the characters FAR too much (reincarnation of Egyptian Princess? Karate? EH?) but if you're going to expand your characters for your sequel, make them more solid. And make Keira's 'tough girl' character three hundred times less irritating.

I think it's a great game.

Sometimes the stealth simply doesn't work though - it becomes a teeth-gritting 'hope they don't notice' experience. Also, the save points system drives me insane. However, the atmosphere, the gameplay, the insanity...just too cool for school.

Okay guys, this is the project leader of Hallow's End (horror-adventure game mentioned a few posts previously) here - I have a full storyline plotted out, I have conceptual image ideas, I have a scripter, I have a composer...If you are a background artist or a Character animator/artist or anyone else who feels they can assist in the art department then I will happily send you the design document. Please give me a hand here, I am desperate to get this project off the ground :)

I would post the total synopsis here, but it's nearly 5 sides and I might get yelled at for posting the whole thing :) So instead I shall post what I consider as 'Act I'

ACT 1 of HALLOW'S END

Mike Sandon arrives in Hallow's End, and goes to a local bar. Once there he discovers that his brother has been missing for a number of days, which seems extremely odd to him considering his brother called him only the day before to tell him to come and stay with him. Those at the local bar seem evasive about his questions at best, but he soon calls a taxi to take him to his brother's house. Waiting for it, he sees a figure disappear into the shadows that looks like his dead daughter. Losing sight of the figure, Mike finds himself lost. The fog clears slightly, and he finds himself standing in front of a fence, with words painted in blood ‘WELCOME HOME MICHAEL'. Then, he wakes up in the spare room in his brother's house. It was all just a very bad dream. A laugh startles him. Going out to investigate, he finds bloody trails leading all the way down to the basement. After successfully unlocking the door, he is also able to turn on the lights.
He sees the corpse of his brother, speared to the ground with a pike. Horrified, Mike goes to investigate. As he goes to do so, the tall, mutilated and scarred form of the Laughing Boy appears as if from nowhere. Mike runs back to the basement door, but finds the door has jammed. The creature is rapidly approaching him, and laughing. As it gets close, Mike jams the poker into its chest. It temporarily topples over, but it doesn't seem to have done a mssive amount of damage since the creature is starting to stand up again and pulling out the poker â€" when the door flies open and Mike is yanked through by someone, and he loses consciousness.
He wakes up again, in the living room, in the company of a woman, Katherine Keider. Kate explains that she also came to visit the town, after the suicide of her husband and a miscarriage, and had been told Jon Sandon was a local psychiatrist, and despite it being the middle of the night wanted to rest her mind easy. Finding the door open, she heard a scream from the basement. Mike explains what it was he saw, and asks if she knew. Kate says she doesn't, but that she's been seeing strange things around the town â€" an apparition of her dead husband in the local library. Mike decides to go and visit the library, telling Kate to stay at home. She refuses, demanding to follow him. He has no choice but to let her follow; soon, they are at the local library. It is closed and locked up at that time of night. Kate agrees to wait outside until Mike returns. Mike manages to break in through a first floor window, and finds himself among the stacks. Immediately ahead of him is a trail of pages, leading towards a book. Mike reads the pages. They are the foundation story of Hallow's End by Joseph Teller in the mid 18th century (Possible flashback cutscene?) and how enigmatically ‘the town has always been the last place people go.' The official history also points out how Teller was a troubled man, and in his later days was tormented, and who drove himself to the very edge of his anguish â€" before killing himself by throwing himself off a cliff. Teller's tone seems regretful, as if there was something in his life he should not have done. Mike opts to search for both the reading room, where Kate saw the ghost, and also the journal of J. Teller. The reading room is locked, predictably. Teller's journal is a very old document, but the book is inside a cabinet, that Mike cannot reach far enough inside to read. He opts not to smash the glass. He searches the office, and sees a map of the place. Mike finds the canteen for the library staff, and a brief search of the kitchen reveals tools he can use to turn the pages. Mike reads the journal. Teller reveals how he was tormented by ‘that laugh, which haunted my nightmares and plagued my very existence'....

And they're taking forever on Ghost.

They have a clever marketing strategy. The moment people complain about them taking too long, they post a picture of the heroine's ass - usually in her skintight suit, so they're droolign so much Blizzard get the heat off them.

Boy, we do sound like old farts don't we?

I love a lot of modern games (GTA I very much enjoy), but I also miss a lot of the adventures that proliferated when I was young. There just seemed so much more woth buying, whereas I'm very careful about what I buy now. There's just not enough worth looking forward to.

There ARE a lot of great modern games released, unfortunately there's a deluge of crap or distinctly average titles (See Need for Speed: Bling-Bling edition or whatever) that top the charts and sell like crazy, and these drown out games of true quality (Psychonauts anyone?)

Too long, too convoluted, self-important story. Only really very good when Jack Sparrow was on the screen - Keira and Orlando are just damp fireworks.

Hmnmm....I haven't heard great things about lighthouse though. I heard it's a little bit like Myst, and in all the wrong ways...

What IS it with German girls, huh?

No, really - what is with them? The guy in this thread won't explain what's wrong with them other than that they seem to express a disinterest in him.
