Again, that comes down to trying to prevent as many of their users as possible from making the wrong decision.  The problem is solved on page one of that thread, I'd assume the rest is people who believe what you do complaining about being made to do something slightly technical to get what they want.

Bear in mind though that Microsoft is an American company.  Not even Bill Gates can afford a million Americans suing him because he made is easy for them to compromise the integrity of their computer!

Why do I even bother?
It pointless, if you can't understand the simple option of choice.  (wrong)

You have the choice (same thing should work on any version of Windows).
#303
You can choose not to install updates.  You can also choose to uninstall specific updates once they're installed.  They just don't make it obvious how to do it, since millions (if not billions) of people use Windows, and the vast majority of them don't know very much about computers (as this thread has proven...).

No company in the world is going to have an indefinitely long warranty period for old software, and if you want your system to be relatively secure and stable you have to live with keeping things up to date.  Or just use an older generation of every software, and be really surprised when someone uses the security flaws it almost certainly has to hack you.

I think the wording is a bit harsh, given it was written in a very different era (almost 20 years now!), but indeed the idea is "to be constructive and chill with our posts and replies".  I'll see if I can reword it a bit.

You don't need a mod to do that. Just go to this link: https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=profile;area=account
And change your name

Not quite.  Users can change their display name, but their username remains what they originally registered with.  As you'd see from your own profile, the username remains visible.

I can change the username too if you really want.

I'm not sure this is the right place to post this, but when I search my games on the games page, there's a game that doesn't get listed.  ???

https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/2443-over-roger-mags-april-2020-version-/

No matter if I type Sandra or Sandra T. Almeida it only shows on the Quick list below the search box, but as as soon as I hit enter or the button to search and get my list, this game isn't listed. Which is odd.  :-\

On another note, entering my nickname on the search, shows a bunch of game where I'm not the author, just a collaborator (like beta tester and the likes)... still the above game is also not shown.

Should be fixed now!

Site & Forum Reports / Re: The AGS Awards page
Fri 05/02/2021 18:46:12
Game ID 18 ("Murder") was used as a placeholder because the game entry is disabled.  Apparently the awards counting logic didn't realise that though!  I've now fixed it, thanks!
#308
I've merged the two, and hidden the newer entry.
#309
The earlier of the two says it's a beta version.  We do sometimes end up with separate entries for a demo and its full game too.  I'll have a think about how to combine the two.

Sophia McGrath and the Strange Invitation
https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/2455-sophia-mcgrath-and-the-strange-invitation/

The game has no download link, hence it is listed with 0 downloads. But the link to the game's homepage takes us to the itch page. It looks like these two have been mixed up.

Fixed, thanks!

I nominated, but I should tell you that the code didn't allow me to just nominate a few games in the "game and character" category... Apparently one had to fill every option there - which I am sure wasn't the original intention  :=

Same problem here. It don't work even for the games with the character name in the title.

Fixed that now.

Site & Forum Reports / Re: New AGS releases

I've readded you as moderator on those boards.  You don't have to actively moderate them if you don't feel like doing it, but at least now you can do merging, stickying, moving etc of threads.

There are 2095 distinct credit types out of 5184 total credits.  It would be a massive amount of work to standardise those, and would it really be worth all the effort?

What I could do at least is group games alphabetically by the credit name, so there's a block with "beta testing", block with "music" etc.  That should be a bit more easily read.
#315
That's because only three people have voted to change the category of that game, and each voted for something different!  As I said, it'll take at least five votes for a category for it to change (and the most votes over five will always win).  Otherwise it would be chaos, with the category changing every time someone voted; this would allow one voter to change a game's category to whatever they want, and be far too open to abuse.
#316
Okay, in theory it will now work every time someone votes for a game (or updates their existing votes).
#317
Okay, I've written a script that takes the highest voted for category for each game, where there are more than five votes.  It can only be run manually at the moment, but I'll look at getting it to be triggered by the voting.  It should have correctly applied the most voted for categories for all games now anyway.
#318
All updated, thanks!
#319
I've also trawled through various sites and archives to find the majority of the missing release dates.  There should only be a handful left now, but those will probably have to remain unknown forever.

Spoiler

Awe, an early present, just for me? Thank you.  :-[ :-* :-[

...

Oh no, it looks like Santa drove his sleight so fast that part of the present fell down!  8-0

(I really appreciate the effort, but sorting a list by certain information is far more useful when you can also see this information.)

Completely random: I just learned that AGS was already around in the seventies!  (nod)
There are a couple of games with a realese date of 1. Jan 1970 - obviously an automately generated date for games where no actual date was available. It would probably make more sense to change this to "Relese Date: not available" or something, but I doubt anyone pays that much attention to it.
Edit: Looking a bit closer, in the All Games List, these games have as their relesed date: "unknown", but on the individual games pages it's 1. Jan 1970.

Happy new year!  The details should now all be visible, and I fixed the unknown dates on the main game entries.

Unknown dates were showing as 01/01/1970 because we store dates as Unix time (the number of seconds that have elapsed since the date mentioned).  The database column defaults to 0 if no date is added, so...  Dates are now added automatically of course, this is just games that were imported from an older version of the site.
