See, what we need to do now that the Sam and Max license has gone back to Steve is find out where he lives, collectivly call in one day with a copy of AGS and convince him to make another game in his spare time!

Quotenetmonkey's media manager plugin should simplify this, but I'm not sure what its current status is.

I do see your point though, names are much nicer than numbers and especially now that we have sub-folders for music and speech to separate them from sounds, it should be simpler to implement.

strazer suggests a good workaround from a script point of view, but there is still the issue of having hundreds of "soundXXX.mp3" files in your game folder and trying to remember which is which, so I do understand the issue.

The reason why I brought this up is that it seems to be a relic left over from the dos editor. Netmonkey's plugin is very nice, but I have concerns about it using the .NET framework.

Strazer's suggestion is excellent though, very useful :)

Wintermute has had hardware acceleration from the start, and that is something that AGS lacks. Because of this WME can handle higher resolutions without the same speed issues that might arise with AGS... if you want to make an adventure game in a higher resolution than 800x600 then use Wintermute. It makes sense.

Anyone doing a non-commercial game in high res needs to be aware of the very large file sizes that will arise too. Higher resolutions are not always better!

Is it possible to do away with having to label music and sound effects as generic "sound1.ogg" or "music23.mp3" and have unique names for these files yet? Perhaps the music, sound and speech sub-folders can be expanded too so us people using lots of audio assets would have an easier time managing and organising everyting.

I've always been bemused by weddings and the surrounding customs. I guess I'm with Darth in a general dislike of 'tradition', as it generally seems to be an excuse to do things that are quite silly.

When it comes to love, rings and material goods are inconsiquental. Give him a hug instead!

I think we need an update to the golden rules: If you think a thread is rediculous or pointless, do not respond to it at all and instead ignore it's existance. Don't even bother making pointless one-liner remarks about it. Everyone will be happier.

The first trailer was much, much better than the new one. It had Tom Baker doing the voice over for starters, and this seems to be a higgeldy-piggeldy mess of probably all the cliche gags in the film.

Good thing I saw the original trailer before this otherwise I would have been quite worried.

Part of the problem i think is that the availability of broadband and cheaper connections has given an increasing number of children acess to the internet and ultimatly AGS, which has lead to larger portions of people that are not really mature enough to be posting here (this is not an age-specific thing incidently, some of the most sickeningly immature people the community has encountered have been into their 20s or so).

Kids causing distruption by trying to be older than they are so they can hang out with the 'big kids' is nothing new though, remember Squalman? I wonder how he's doing now, heh.

Uh oh, who dug this one up?

Bottom line: AGS and Wintermute are not in competition. Fanboyism should be left to the graphics cards, processors and console forums and we should be all linking arms and dancing around the campfire together, happy in the knowledge that both Chris Jones and Jan Nedoma are devoting huge chunks of their free time to developing engines that enable us to create the games that no one wants to make commercially anymore. Anyone bemoaning either engine needs to take a haitus from the internet to grow up.

With love, Dark Stalkey

Only the runtime thingy-ma-jooble, not the editor though. Rodekill made 'Rode Quest 2' on a Mac using Virtual PC... I think... might be something worth looking into.

Good to see I'm keeping up the tradition of looking rediculous in 99% of gathering photos (with added "what-the-heck-is-wrong-with-those-eyes" this year, woo)!

And this just scares the heck out of me Dave... http://www.lumpcity.co.uk/ags/brittens2005/lpic0055.jpg

Explosions at 6 tube stations and on 3 buses. Dave Gilbert is supposed to be flying back to New York today and was staying in the city, and I think AGA, scotch, Creed and Iqu are supposed to be travelling home through London. I hope they're all safe  :(

Curry was very good, although Layabout, Dark Stalkey and Iqu regretted going for the Madras I believe!  JetXL and I both had Chicken Jalfrezzi, although I think it got the better of one of us...  ;)

We all ordered Vindaloos, and I didn't regret a thing ;)

Yeah, I don't know what you've been looking at but every source I've looked at says that Friday and onwards is going to be sunny and nice. I hope so, there's not a lot that's worse than setting up a tent in the rain...

Ashen - I'll be getting in to London Kings Cross at about 12:30, and my connecting train is at Vauxhall and not London Victoria. I'll be in Staines at either 1:38 or 2:08 depending on what the underground is like, although I guess it'd be sensible for me to hang around until you get in so m0ds can give us both a cheeky lift ;)

Edit: There's a possibility we'll cross paths though, and I shouldn't be hard to spot - the long haired tail guy carrying loads of camping stuff!

I'll be giving you a buzz between 1:30 and 2:08 then Mark!

Ceephax Acid Krew? Most of his stuff is out on vinyl and easily obtained on Soulseek.

Didja catch his brother Squarepusher while you were there? I sat up all night in the forlorn hope that the BBC would boardcast it on Three.
