[man Scummbuddy must like you - he didn't lock this]

You are thinking in spanish right? (not only because of the other thread)

"personage" = personaje = character | "fund" = fondo = background

Save your images as .PCX or .BMP in your favourite paint program and import them to AGS.

And I have seensomewhere a manual translation in portugese, I think - this should be understandable enough for you as a spanish native, not?

EDIT: here is the link to portugese (from the "tutorials page"):

Mucha suerte!

When I need something in another language I get it here:

http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en

I once even finished playing a game in french (of which I don't speak a word) just using this tool...

The command is surprisingly: PlaySound (int sound_number)Ã,  ;)

to play on click just set your button to "run script" then edit script to):

if (inerface == 0) {Ã,
Ã,  if ( button == 0) {
Ã,  do_something ();
Ã,  PlaySound (0);
Ã,  }
}

to play on hovering I wouldÃ,  have to look up (guess whereÃ,  ;))

Quotebut the annoying remaining thing is that every time the character start animating randomly it stop the other actions

but that's waht you told it to do...

it's this line:

while(character[Character].animating) Wait(1);

=AGS waits until the animation is over...

QuoteÃ,  I don't quite understand why the positioning of the code matters

Maybe just to make sure you didn't place this interface script within another interface script unintentionaly?

Why not ask Conchie himself? Or would that upset Mumsie?

QuoteViktor's character is so generic that he could be mistaken for loads of already existing characters.

Actually this opens a great spectrum of possible storylines of mistaken identitites...

It was too tempting to play with him... (just a quick 15min. draw-over)

Original idea.

You probably have taken more insight into a domestic turkey mind, bút... someone teases you and you organize troops to take revenge? Isn't that a bit overreacting? Besides I don't really like the thought of animals getting assigned such human ways of sorting things out among themselves.

Why not make the turkey break free and organize birds in L.A. to protes against animal slavery. Like gang up in hunderds and drop all their $§!= on the mayor or something...

Or at least think of a real cause to declare a war on the seagulls (I can't think of one right now)

btw. isn't it a bit paradox that your profile says you're 13 and you are planning to design a game "rated 15"?

EDIT
If you are interested in the topic of animals oganizing an army, I recomend George Orwell's "Animal Farm". It might give you some really good ideas.

QuotePS stands for "post scriptum", which is Latin for after writing.

I Ã,  know - Gwen surely doesn't. It's there to emphasize the fact, that Gwenda's interests aren't exactly focused on writing letters (I know people who actually do that!). I hope some readers might even smile on this one...Ã,  ;)

But thanks anyway.
#69
Thanks, Angelos - you got a point there. I will consider this as I take the development of this character into more depth. You are right about the smileys and such too, I think.

Quote...I'm not sure on the misspelling of taht's. That is usually misspelt on the computer due to fast typing,...

:) :) :) That wasn't on intent - it was just me designing before I had my second coffee LOL. Thanks for the hint - I didn't notice that (taht?) one! LOL

Thank you all! Let me go through some points.

@DM

She is american, that's right - I hoped this would be clear so I don't have to explicitly tell that (I don't like direct character descriptions in a game).Ã,  Thanks for the college hint (didn't realise that). The girl that served as a "real life model" for most of this character is actually german - so I don'tÃ,  think that "the bimbo syndrome" is something typical american...

Interessting that you (same as Steve & Blackthorene) felt the "bimbo effect" coming through well enough, alone by the contents/style (ie. even without the wrong spelling), but didn't assume she was stupid at the same time - this is a very valuable feedback!

As for your observations - sorry, but as Steve guessed, those are supposed to be jokes...Ã,  :)

@Blackthorne

Thanks fo the "slang-version"! I certainly will use some of the expressions!

@Steve

As said before I will take out some of the (c)rap spellingÃ,  :)

I am also aware that anyone as dumb as not to be able to project the causality of a letter being stole to the back side of the sheet should not be left uncared for - but I am looking for the atmosphere of the surrealistic humor in the spirit of LSL or the 80's comedies (Mel Brooks, Zucker Brothers etc.) Still I will reconsider this joke, as people seem to be rather puzzled than amused by it...

("Making people laugh is a serious business!" - Charlie Chaplin)

I will spend some more time with this and post it when I got it - since this letter is the first (and for quite some time the only) hint in the game I want give it all the attention it needs...

Thank you all again!

EDIT: Version 0.2... as it will appear in the game. Background is Photoshop, I tried overlaying scanned handwriting - but it looked crappy, so I went for the typing tool... What do you think?

RE-EDIT - I just noticed that my own (unintended) typos actually make it look very much as I wantedÃ,  :)

I am also using CursorMode Commands a lot - I support this suggestion.

Here is my suggestion:

How about the option: Game - "Run Global Funciton" and a drop-down, containg all imported functions for that room?

I am using global functions for almost all "standard" clicks. Like function looked_at ()... if player looks at object do this, make this, display this

It is way to tedious to click "Run Script" and type in the functionname each time (even if the editors auto-text is helpful - thanks!). Besides it would add to the transparency of set interactions on the first glance.

This looks really great! (but I suppose you know that already...)

maybe a bit unusual post for here - but I really need help. With this one:

In my game the main character (Sunny) receives a letter from her best friend (Gwenda) who is currently visiting Switzerland. So far so well, however I made Gwenda's character a very superficial, highly sexual active spoiled rich-mans-brat with a weakness for booze, parties and expensive styles (the word "bimbo" might jump into one or other sexistic mind).

My trouble: how does such a person write a letter? I tried (see bellow) but I don't know, since I am not native in english, if it really "feels" like someone who's reading habits usually stop at fashion catalogues and rap lyrics... (of course I have overdone it with the anti-orthography, to reach a humorous effect)

Deer Sunny,
maybe you'll reed dis while I'm bak in da uni next week or maybe some one steels da lettar befor?!
No problem if dis happend since I drawed a mapp on da bak dat shows U all what's up here in Swissland.
Luvly playse & also has beach & party all nite! Dat meens from evening 2 mornin with boyz & all booze's free if U'r sexy!!!!!!!!
Sory, 4 da long lettar, butt I now U like 2 do da reading stuff!
Kisses
Gwenny
PS: I'll go to a playse called "Salzbergwerk" morrow. It's spoused 2 be more kool dan da party, sez Wolfie here.
PS2: Da hairstylists here suck!
PS3: Wolfie isn't a doggy, butt a local stud. I met him @ da party - he's kool!
PS4: Can U wait 4 me on da airport cos I got much stuff 'n dat?

Any advice from native speakers is highly welcome!

I prefer the shaded version, to answer your question.

And now and advice: draw slow. draw fast, draw detailed, draw sketchy - but hell, DRAW - because it would be a real tragedy not to finish this (at least form what can be seen here)!

I am amazed!

I think using a command to return the player to the room they came from would solve this.

For my load GUI (Interface 2) I use:
Code: ags

else if (button == 2) { //Resume playing
Ã,  Ã,  InterfaceOff (2);
Ã,  Ã,  SetDefaultCursor();
Ã,  Ã,  }

However if I get the player to an extra room first (like a map, or a book) I use this:

Code: ags

if (interface == 3) { //return
Ã,  Ã,  if (button == 0) {
Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  NewRoomEx (character[ GetPlayerCharacter () ].prevroom, character[ GetPlayerCharacter () ].x , character[ GetPlayerCharacter () ].y);
Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  InterfaceOff (3);
Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  }
Ã,  Ã,  }

Does it help?

QuoteYou play Evan McHavoc, a Scottish warrior, who was the last one left to care of his father after his two brothers moved away to the London. Now, father is dying, but before he dies, he will tell you about the treasure he buried on one of the Pacific Ocean islands.

I don't know, but "scottish warrior" makes me think of very old times, rather much earlier then XVII when earliest europeans reached any pacific islands (besides I think Carribean Sea is rather a setting for a hidden treasure) - correct me if I am wrong, it's just thoughts that came to my mind.

Otherwise it sounds promising - not nearly enough people do pirate settings (I suppose they are afraid to be compared to MI or something...). I am looking forward to hear about your progress!  :)

Quotedont ye know, why I cant see thow screenshots and not even my avatar image

I can't see them either, I think it has something about freewebs and hotlinking - there was a way to override it, but I don't remember. It was posted recently so maybe you can find it in the active threads.

Just downloaded. Thanks for making!

First impression - quite OK! Actually cool!

I like the dialogs + there aren't many games around using geniuine hungarian names. The atmosphere is fine.

Only thing I didn't like is the sudden scaling, the character seems to fall into a hole.

Oh, and I am stuck (of course)

Spoiler
I repayed my dues and figured out I probaby have to clean the toiletts to get my amp repaired (THAT's sadistic PlacydÃ,  :)) Anyway I got the brush and all but can't find the toilett?!?! I thought it would be behind the "master" but I can't go there. Can I also enter the backroom of the music-room - it didn't work for me.

(is this for real? I mean the 'open positions' part)

The character looks nice though.

Hi Kodachi,

as a White Wolf fan from the very beginning, I am very glad to hear about this project.

But my very first advice to you is to be very careful.

First, many people around know the White Wolf setting very well, so you should be careful not to upset them by putting something "wrong" in your game.

I have led many a table-RPG for Vampire: The Masquerade and other WW worlds and stopped doing so because of people telling me: "No, that's not right. Here in the sourcebook it says he died five years ago!" and the like. Maybe you are better off inventing your own world, based loosely on Mage.

Which bings me to the point two: the copyrights. WW is producing computer games set in their world, so be careful to release your game only as "fanart" if any direct corespondence to WW and their stuff is visible. It wouldn't be a bad idea to state the prober copyright anf trade marks owner in your credits.

So enough of the "know-it-all-sceptic" as Andail called my posts somewhere else beforeÃ,  :)

The general plot sounds quite cool , a bit like "Mage goes Matrix" - however it also sounds quite long - you actually could write a triology of novels on that.

How long will the game be (in matter of scenes, rooms).

It would be great to see any "optical evidence" of your ideas (screenshots, sprites etc.)

Do you already have an idea for a title?

QuoteAlso I would require experienced help in the artistic fields and maybe sound.

There is an extra thread, where you can look for help on various things. For me it also has proven nice to post a particualry hard-to-finish piece here and get suggestions on improvement from the more experienced folks.
