flying balls? it just was too "smoke and mirrors" for me

That was the point. It is all smoke and mirrors - a hoax.

The only reason they didn't show the stooge lifting the ball up with a stick because they needed to get people phoning in with their 'supernatural' occurences (If indeed the calls were genuine).

I thought it was excellent. Derren Brown is a master expositor.

Very nice, but the horizon is parallel to the windowframe so it looks flat. Try re-drawing it horizontally (not flat, just wobbly along a flat line if you see what I mean).

do you know the saying from communism times?

Everybody is equal, but some are more equal than others.

I think it was "Death to the Czar!" actually.

Very good, the perspective is quite consistent. It reminds me of Pleurburg. I'll do a little paintover to show what you could do with the water...

EDIT:

The bg probably should be less bright, I'm afraid my program changed the colours when I pasted it. I just tried to match your original, you may want to make your version darker. It's not terrific because I did it quickly. Hope it's helpful:

If you like the water effect here it's a simple matter of adding a few vertical lines in a light shade to create the illusion of reflection. Then an even lighter and less saturated shade for ripples or scum (in this case, scum). The scum shouldn't be too straight or too wobbly, and should show the flow of the water. I've done it quickly here, it can be done better.

Try to keep your style consistent. The biggest problem with your water was its smooth gradients clashing with flat colours.

Additional Changes:
*Altered perspective on keyhole(?) left of screen
*Changed shading on walls/floor inkeeping with a lightsource from right of screen
*Added drips from vent & changed perspective on pool below
*Added hilights to some bricks on back wall so you can see how it looks

That's a good point, however an equal socio-communist system need not necessarily rely upon generosity. If the world's wealth was shared equally the vast majority of individuals would benefit.

They're terrific!

I must say, I prefer the second backdrop for the girl. It's got a kind of Parisian atmosphere.

I find the first a little confusing visually, my eyes tell me that the male figure is the girl's shadow.

I think it's important to note that an awful lot of terrible things have happened under grossly distorted and failing communist economies.

However, the same things happen under capitalist economies when they're functioning correctly!

And Stuh505, lets not forget that socialism was originally thought of as a stage of transition between capitalism and communism, not a permanent state.

So, who wants to talk about materialism? Yay!

If you really want to lose your marbles, try doing it under windows 95 with an awesome 200mhz processer. To make it more fun, you could cook a roast while you wait.

Nasty cold you've got there. I think it's catching.

*cough* Genuinely won the election, didn't just have my Dad buy it for me *cough*

The Simpsons MAY have intended that ironically, as a condemnation of the two party system.

But who can say?

EDIT: Good point Sutebi. Irony in the Simpsons!? I'd like to see that!

I worked out how to predict the answer, then spent about as long trying to work out how it related to the title.

I'd happily pay to send a number of politicians on "holiday"! He he he...

I'm kidding. You're right about the first case but dead wrong about the second. That's a terrible abuse of power, even if no one was directly harmed by the actions involved. It directly violates the principles of democracy, so I don't think your mother was being unfair to say what she did.

Just pay close attention.

As for the choose-a-number trick, veryweirdguy is right, (and very wierd).

The mental arithmetic prevents you occupies your mind and effectively clears it, which makes you more likely to make the obvious choice without realising it.

In memory tests psychologicts use similar techniques, like reverse times tables, to prevent subjects from trying to remember things.

The Tony Hawk version would be more: "Grind round Ireland then ollie the North/South divide".

And I'm reading Chapman's translation of the Odyssey. It's slow going, but I'm enjoying it.

They all look excellent, I love Lackluster Video!

Iqu's right though, the last one does seem to be in a different and less satisfying style. Plus, you are aware of cross-atlantic differences when it comes to the word 'fanny' aren't you?

Four points I hope are useful, most important first:

1. You broach far too wide a subject for a 2-3 minute film. Unless a topic is grotesquely simplified for comic purposes, like a 3 minute film of the hundred years war, you'd probably want to choose a smaller premise.

2. The film isn't formatted like a film script. Film scenes tend to begin:

INT/EXT. NAME OF LOCATION - DAY/NIGHT

This link shows a range of formats that should help you:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/scriptsmart/formats.shtml

3. For a short film, it's probably best to put more credits at the end and just a title at the start.

4. Assuming you'd be shooting on location, you may have trouble using a fake gun. People tend to phone the police who arrive with real guns. I'm not kidding, this happens a lot!. Make sure you clear anything like this with the police first, and even then don't flash around a convincing fake in public.

Hope I haven't sounded harsh at all, good luck!

Here's a sample of concept art for MI2. I don't know if it was actually this canvas that was scanned, but it could have been.

By the way, I've just been to http://www.lucasarts.com and I can't find ANY mention of MI 1 or 2.
