Where is the background my eyehole was promised? You're all talking about a picture, and I don't know where it is.

As for the character he says 'staring' for 'starring', and does appear to be in possession of his drug of choice, rendering the need for a quest ... questionable.

Later, fellow hacker biatches.

DG, did you have a hand in that film 'Un Chien Andalou'?

Now witness the great tragedy of our time:

Isegrim, the improved picture really is improved. The only thing I think it really needs is more mist. Swamps need mist say I. Also the shadows might look nicer is they were more soft.

I like the will o'the wisps.

Oh, it's water.

I've never seen grass reflecting sunlight before before...8)

I find that a little difficult to believe ... but I know what you mean.

I might be going against the flow but I really think this game should be in 3D and I remember thinking they should make a 3D sequel when I played the original.

The style of BASS would really lend itself to the cinematic camera movement that a 3D game would facilitate. It could really add to the atmosphere. I'm really looking forward to this game.

P.S. Blade Runner also used a system similar to Virtual Theatre which I thought worked really well. And less annoyingly than Lure. And in Blade Runner your jester friend doesn't get stuck in a bug and refuse to move. Then you have to start all over again...

Thanks to everyone who entered, or debated how many colours you can fit into a 50x50 grid, but I've chosen Silvor because I really want a replica Doc Brown.

It's up to you to post the next Sprite Jam Silvor.

The problem with a lot of hi-colour work is that it looks soft. To create separation you need contrast. Don't be afraid of using very dark and light colours in small amounts, so model or give shape to your objects as I have tried to do with the sign. Small brushes can be used to add detail,  to the grass and the can. I used [choke]gradients[/choke] to make the can look more metallic because I felt it fitted your style. Also, since the sign looks hand-made, why not have hand-written text on it?

am I allowed to make something photoshoppy as well, or does it *have* to be spritey?

Steve's right. You can use any art programme you, like 2d or 3d, to create an image that could be a game sprite. What you aren't supposed to do is paste together other peoples work.

Looking forward to your entry, Guybrush.

Really excellent choice of colours, this image is so atmospheric.

I love it.

I think the shadows might be just a little too defined around the chimney. A sky like that is going to give out very soft/diffused light - you'll only see dark shadows under cars - or carts.

Softer shadows around the chimney would make this image perfect.

Number 2 is the plot for me, I'd love to play a game like that.

I liked Feeble Files, but I stopped playing it simply because of how long it took Feeble to walk from one side of the maze to the other!

ABOUT 10 MINUTES!

Seriously.

I'm sure it'll be in Britain again, since Hollywood thinks Brits are trendy right now, even Batman is getting in on the fad.

Thanks to the recent tax changes, I'm not sure it will be in Britain. That's why Johnny Depp's current film has been in financial hot water.

I'd be fully behind this film wherever it was going to be filmed, except that the guy who is adapting it did Big Fish, which wasn't up to much, Titan A.E. and Go, which un-thrilled me to the extent of not watching them.

Tim Burton needs a REALLY GOOD writer to look after plot, story and character. Then he can do what he does best. I'm not convinced that this writer fits the bill. We could be landed with another floundering Big Fish.

Sorry this is a bit late, I wasn't expecting to win...

This week's sprite jam:

A timepiece...

An inventory item with something to do with time.
I want to see clocks, hourglasses and time machines, people!

Size: 50x50
Colours: No more than 36 million.

He could have chosen to play a different wizard...

Roger is a cultural tourist. He watches TV and thinks he knows what's going on. BUT HE DOESN'T KNOW!

I'm so deep...

... I should write a book or something...

... when Fresh Prince is finished...

I'm not sure you'll find many pictures of institutions built in the thirties, many hospitals are old buildings.

This asylum is quite famous and was in use in the 1930s:

(no interior pictures)

This web site shows interiors, from an undetermined time.

Here's what you want! (I hope)

This site has interiors and exteriors from the first asylum:

The Coen Brothers have made a number of films set early last century, but try Barton Fink, it should give you a feel for the styles of the time:

As a bonus, the excellent writing it should give you a few tips for making your dialogue seem authentic.

You might want to disregard some parts of the film as far as research goes. You'll know which bits I mean if you watch it.

Just remember to include anti-semetism and hats, and you'll be fine.

The image isn't too dark on my monitor, I think the gentle lighting/contrast looks quite nice. The colours are well chosen, congratulations for not choosing highly saturated primary colours for 3D!

The image is very nice over-all but the lens angle is a little too wide. Lots of people (myself included) have trouble with this in 3D. The image has something of a wide-angle(fish-eye) lens so objects near the edges (book, monitor screen) are distorted.

While human eyes take in a very wide picture, they do so with in a different manner to a camera lens (or your vitual camera). If you set your lens to an angle of around 30 degrees, your objects will appear to have depth that looks natural and not at all distorted - however you will probably only be able to see the phone and notebook. You have to find a balance.

Try narrowing the lens angle a little and moving the camera slightly further away. That ought to solve the distortions.

Also, if this is a 3rd person game (except closeups) perhaps someone should be sitting in the chair.

By the way, what's the game on the computer screen?

81%

I can't believe earlwood has 87%.

I want to be the purest.

Ah, the sin of envy probably isn't helping my purity rating...

Damn you earlwood!

We really need a winner here... the word Phriday is becoming more inapropriate by the minute.

Perhaps I didn't make it clear that Redwall had to pick a winner who would run the next PP. If he/she hasn't chosen by this time tomorrow, I'll do it.

And I really think the next one should be called Photoshop Uber-Challenge

EDIT: Okay, my apologies to Redwall. I'm going to have to choose mätzyboy for his nice little picture and entertaining story.

Please post the next Photoshop Challenge, mätzyboy. Give a start and an end date (just like the sprite jams) and don't forget to choose a winner.

There aren't really any sprites here, so this probably doesn't qualify.
