VOTING TIME! (ends June 22th)

Welcome to the annual Conference of Fearless Scientists! Once again some of our fellow colleagues traveled around the world in search of some previously unknown lifeforms.
Seven new specimen have been discovered:

All of them amazing finds, but whose species will be seen on the front page of July's Science Monthly?

Choose your three favourite entries (1st, 2nd and 3rd). Voting ends on June 22th. Good luck everyone!

And there was me thinking snails are harmless. Good Lord! It's true then: Never judge a book by its cover. Great find, Tabata! But please make sure that your specimen is stashed away securely, will you? ;)

Last chance everyone! Voting will start in, let's say, 48 hours. If there are any last minute entries, make sure to finish them until the day after tomorrow (or let me know if you need more time).

Wait for me, guys, I'm on my way!

Even big, bad emperors need a cuddle from time to time. Since Palpatine never was a fan of white, long-haired cats (and, quite frankly, didn't want to wander off into another franchise) he went for a dog instead. So be introduced to one of the lesser-known Star Wars characters:

Daisy, the Emperor's Dog

[imgzoom]http://fs2.directupload.net/images/150614/x9qv6izl.png[/imgzoom]

(She's not animated, I'm afraid. Really, it was hard enough to make her sit still long enough to take this picture. ;))

Let's just hope that Ripley is around here somewhere, we might need her help. Whatever he is, Mokho, he's definitely alien - and definitely great!

Really like your ideas so far, keep 'em coming!

There is only one option for june's pick: Camp 1. An instant classic if there ever was one.

Life at Camp 1, a geological trial drilling site, hasn't been easy in the past . But, somehow, things got even worse. What kind of future will await the four inmates of the camp?

"Camp 1" is an outstanding science fiction game. Every single aspect is excellent. Fantastic visuals, intense atmosphere, clever puzzles, wonderful colours - the limited palette works really well. Anyone who hasn't played this yet, go and do so. You'll love it.

(If you're going to pick this: Asking a natural speaker to have a look at my ramblings might be a good idea .  ;)
Or better: have someone write a bit more about the story. I'm not good with that kind of thing.)

Beware of Afrothulu, the god of double posts! You always meet twice ...

Thanks Mandle, wonderful entry! Had a good laug- err, I mean, I was genuinely scared the moment I saw him. ;)
#8
Awesome entries! You scientist really found a lot of interesting specimen, didn't you? ;-D

@Bohnito: Who would have thought that a squishy thing in a shell could be so gorgeous?

@Bulbapuck: Nah, not better. Just different. Whilst bohnitos creature is wearing his barnacles just for showing off ("Look, I AM adult. Can I have a beer now?"), yours is sporting this adorable "More coffee. Now!"-look.

@Grok: A no-brainer, you said? So he is in disguise then? ;) However that may be, I'd rather not get into a thinking contest with him.

@Cassiebsg: A dinopig? Why on earth wasn't it featured in "Jurassic Park"? Just think about how good the film could have been!

Come on, people, show us your findings!

Sorry if I'm a little bit late, but I can't find the magazine. Could you give me some clues (or tell it straight)?

Spoiler
Where would someone hide a dirty magazine? Maybe near/in a place where said person could read it in private?
Spoiler
Look at Chen's bed/bunk.

opening the box lid, that's locked with screws. I think it has something to do with parker's tools, but I can't leave the tent with them
[close]

Spoiler
Parker is very protective of her tools, even now. You will have to find another way.
The box is secured with screws. Can you think of another "tool" (quite often used in adventure games) to remove a screw? Try something similar.
Spoiler
A well trusted tool to remove screws is a coin. Again: Try something similar.

Solution:
Spoiler
Use the washer.

It's not a bug - It's an undocumented creature!

(Competition runs from June 4th to June 18th)

Far from civilisation, in the middle of nowhere it was living a quiet life for years. But now, in the year 2015, a group of fearless scientists finally discovered this beauty. It's obviously not a beetle, (You don't agree? Well, in that case you will have to take my word for it. It's not a bug.) so what kind of life form is this? To be honest, I have no idea. We will have to ask one of the brave scientists.

What kind of creature are we looking at? Is it an animal, a plant or something else entirely? You will have to show us. Fill the shape with any life form (exept the aforementioned beetle) you can think of. It's up to you if you draw a real existing*, a fictional** or a very fictional*** species.

The rules:

Fill the shape with any creature (exept the aforementioned beetle) you can think of.

You will get away with:
  • Rotating the shape
  • Colouring the outline
  • Using every colour in the book

You won't get away with:
  • Drawing a beetle
  • Drawing Gregor Samsa (or Herbie, if you're more into films)
  • Resizing the shape
  • Drawing outside the shape

But beware! Behave or be cursed:

Oh, yeah, and have fun! ;)

Congratulations JimReed and Bohnito! And great entries, everyone.

First place? Wow! I'm shocked - and delighted. Thanks for all the votes. :)

Congratulations to the winners! And wonderful entries, everyone. :)

This Blitz was a lot of fun, but - second place?! How on earth did that happen? To say that it's unexpected might be the understatement of the century. Thanks for all the votes! Very encouraging. Probably should pay a visit to Critics' Lounge one day. In the meantime I'll grab the wonderful trophy with boths hands. :-D

[...]my first impression of Anke's screen is that the objects in the scenery (notably the crate and flashlight) are somewhat arbitrary, like they only exist for the sake of some puzzle, not for any good in-game reason.
If only. But you are right, I did it for the wrong reasons. Should have left the damn flashlight out, but I cut out the light source at the right side just before the finish line and needed a new one. (God, this sounds a lot worse then your assumption. Let's stay with the puzzle theory instead. ;))

This. Is a great game. Obviously, a lot of work went into Camp 1. Every single aspect is excellent. Fantastic visuals, wonderful colours, intense atmosphere, clever puzzles - did I mention the colours? The limited palette works so well!
Just one thing: I like complaining, but can't find any flaws! What am I supposed to do now? ;)

Seriously, marvellous game! Anyone who hasn't played this yet, go and do so. You'll love it.

I was a little hesitant at first, mostly because it looked like a lot of action and possibly a lot of blood, too. I was wrong. There is a bit of both, yes, but certainly not enough to scare even the faint-hearted away. Actually, it's all about the puzzles. You need brains, not brawn.

The little details like the subscribed viewers and the hunt for the CCTV's are great ideas, too (not a good hunter myself, only found six).

That was a lot of fun, Slasher. I enjoyed playing this. :)

The filter:

Spoiler
The diagram doesn't show the correct order, you'll need more information.

Spoiler
Have a look a Parker's computer, especially her notes.

Spoiler
Now you know the order (don't forget to swap the parts mentioned in the diagram), but you'll still have to figure out where to put the casing.
