Messages - Darth Mandarb

I can't sleep attempt:

I've added in a transparency to the glass (showing the other side) so now you can see the inside of the cockpit (vaguely).

Wanderlady - Thanks for your advice!  I really mean it.  With the transparency on the glass, do the star reflections still look wrong?  There's stars completely surrounding the ship, so it should be okay eh?

When I start in on something like this I tend to not sleep until I get something I'm happy with.

thanks again!

Farlander - Thanks!  I think I might just work on the glass a little more and then call it done for the ship!  I'm anxious to start on the rest of the scene.  About the location of the ship.  I want to leave it where it is because I want to have the area where Boba Fett is standing in that picture as a walkable area so that you can't get behind the ship.  You see what I mean?

I gotta tell you guys that I'm really glad you're being so critical ... I can't tell you how annoying it is that most people I show simply say "wow, that's awesome!"  It's very refreshing to get all your input and crits.  I can't tell you how much more pleased I am with where it's at now as opposed to the first few versions!  That's thanks to your advice!

Rock on you guys!

New glass look:

The glass isn't squared off ... it's more like an inner-tube shape (set up and down).   I'm pretty pleased with how this looks.

I don't think most of us had a problem with you buddy!  I'm currently working on about 4,328,404 different things simultaneously.

Hang in there :)

Here is my latest attempt:

The glass is giving me serious troubles.  I'm working on that now.

I think I've achieved a much better perspective on it.  But I've also been staring at it for hours!  So please ... be honest with me.

How does this look now?

Note: I haven't yet worked/improved on the spaceport areas. They're still clean (a la Return of the Jedi :))

taryuu - I've been working on the ship for about 4 hours.  I'm still pluggin' away at it.  It's funny that you mention the colors because I was just thinking that.  I'm going to adjust the pallette when I'm done.  I'm working on a perspective version of it right now.

As for the smoothness of the spaceport ... well it was just thrown in there.  The ship was the focus at this point.  I'm going to 'dirty' it up with some shading.  Adding in some lights, etc.  This is just the beginning!

The stars I probably won't change just 'cause if you watch Star Wars that's kind of how the stars look.  So I want to keep it that way.

Wanderlady - (from the Games in Production forum).  Your suggestions gave me the idea that I'm working on now.  So thanks!

Thanks for the crits people.  It's going to make this awesome when I'm done with it!

I posted this in the Games in Production but I thought I'd bring it into here for some more feedback.

These are my three versions (1st being the oldest).  What do you think of the third.  Does the perspective feel okay?  The first one (thanks to Scummbuddy's advice) just wasn't right and I made the second attempt which was closer ...

First:

Second:

Third:

I rounded off the bottom of the ship (gave it some perspective) and 'rounded' off the top with some angles and some hi-lights.

What do you think?

If anybody knows where to get a laptop in the US for only $200 please let me know!!!

Search for the Golden Joystick ... that's a good title!

See above for changes.

Should I move this into the Critics Lounge?  Or is it okay in here?

Gonzo - I would suggest reading book 3 because you have to read book 4 (The Shadow Rising).  It's the best book in the series in my opinion.  It wouldn't make much sense if you don't read book 3.

But after that ... well ... it sort of went downhill.  Jordan does a masterful job with his characters and you want to keep reading 'cause you care about them.  But after book 4 he just starts throwing characters at you like he's rivaling War and Peace and the plot sort of drags on.  Don't get me wrong there's some truely great parts though.

Guess what?

I'm NOT making this game!

I was talking to my brother about this very thing the other day.  We were discussing how Feist constantly has the heros backed into a corner and just when it seems like they're about to be over-run the reinforcements show up and save the day.  He does this over and over again.

The only thing is, I love it!  I never get bored of it happening.  I loved the Riftwar Saga all the way through the Serpent War Saga.  That's truely (in my humble opinion) some great reading.

Jordan's the Wheel of Time is still on the top of my favorites list though I must admit that last few have been extremely disappointing.

What's the saying?  "It's all been done before"?

Somebody once told me that every piece of fiction is based (loosely) off the Bible.  (I'm not calling the Bible fiction!!)

The Wheel of Time (The Eye of the World through The Shadow Rising) are sooooo similar to the Lord of the Rings.

I find that everything has been overdone.  But then again, if something works, and you enjoy it, why not continue with it?  Although, when I come across something new and original I love it!  But I don't necessarily mind the over-done stuff.

cheers,

Scummbuddy - I definately see what you mean ... what I was thinking of doing was 1 of 4 things:

1) Change the 45º angle perspective to better suit the angle of the ship.
2) Change the angle of the ship to better fit the 45º perspective.
3) I could bring out the cannon and the wing in perspective.
- or -
4) Not worry about it  8)

That took me a long time to draw so I definately don't want to mess it up.  But I also want to get it right!

Thanks for the tip!

Pestilence - Let me know if you have trouble downloading Girl in the Tower from AGA's link.  If so, I'll set it up on my server for you!  I love that song.

I think I'm going to dl the Quest for Glory games.  I've never played them but people seem to really like them.

Also the Monkey Island games.  I've never (if you can believe it) played them either.

I love the Space Quest series.   Especially SQIII.  That's my favorite adventure game of all time!

The King's Quest series comes in a close second though.

I love the song Girl in the Tower from KQIV (I think).  I have the mp3 and I listen to it all the time!

I was thinking about this the other day ... I'm wondering if the msblaster.exe file is actually going to launch a denial of service attack on Microsoft.

I was thinking that because it was supposed to do this, that today, EVERYbody will be going to microsoft.com (to see if it's down) and it'll be soooo flooded with people hittin' the site that it'll crash.

I thought it would be funny if that happened.  I think that would be hilarious!
