Awesome!

Though he needs a mouth ... he looks like one of those soul sucker creatures from the Beast Master.

But the rest is really good!

Crits:
1) the black outline on the arms
2) the guitar/mic could use some darker outlines

Keep it up!

I'll definately be updating Jabba now :)  Thanks for all the advice, Xad and DYDO.

Thanks to the rest for the praise!  I'm going to take it all in and work it all out.

rock on,

Is it Jonny Resnik from Goo Goo Dolls?  Sure looks like him!

The pic is off to a great start!  I wouldn't outline the skin parts with black ... but that's just me :)

If you struggle too long on the mic I wouldn't mind helping out!  Let me know!

Critics' Lounge / Re:Satoru's Walk Cycle

I like it!

Walking guy:
1) unless intentional, he 'wobbles' a little too much for my taste.  I prefer the head/shoulders to just go up and down and not back and forth.
2) the legs are just slightly off.  While one leg is moving forward, the other should be moving back.  You have it very close, but it looks like it might be just 1 frame off or so.

Woman:
The only thing I would say about this would be to get rid of the black outline on the shirt and pants and instead use a darker version of blue for the shirt and grey for the pants.  I like the black outline on the shoes.

hope that helps!

I decided to do another one.

Haven't entered a sprite jam in awhile.  Thought I'd give this one a go:

100%

200%
I still like Ben's better.
EDIT: Just realized I broke the rules and didn't have my name on there.  So I edited a little ...

Thanks guys!

GinnyW - as far as the interactions ... well I'm still learning.  I'll look into the unhandled_event function.

I thought about making the room scrolling, but decided against it.  No real reason really :)

JD - I actually didn't realize that about CTRL-Q ... I'll fix that before the next demo version!

Thanks for your input!

cheers,

General Discussion / Re:The New Mp3 Thread!
Mon 11/08/2003 17:07:40
Fem said it all!  Let's steal back!  I download mp3 like a madman!!  I go to as many concerts as I can to support the artists I like because that's where they get their money!

My analogy:
The music industry needs to realize they're in the business of selling music, not selling CDs.  If the railroad tycoons of a hundred years ago would have realized they were in the transportation business, not the train business, we might well be driving around in a Union Pacific Corvette or a SantaFe Explorer instead of Chevy or Ford.

The Solution:
I think the solution could be any combination of these ...
1) lower the prices of CDs to something like $3.99.  Sure it's 1/4 of the price they are now, but you'd probably sell 5 times as many.  And that's a bigger profit!
2) start offering a membership service (online) where you can get mp3 for download.  It would be a yearly fee (not per song)
3) Include the mp3s of each song on the CD as well.

I want the characters to look RPGish ... so I think I succeeded :)  Do you not like the look?

I'm still planning on making Rebel Spy.

I did what I think a lot of n00bs do when they get AGS.  They immediately, with (good) enthusiasm, shout to the world "I'm making a new game!  It's going to be awesome!!"  But I just wasn't ready to do it then.

I want to do some test games.  Smaller.  So I can learn the program better and get the art style I want before I start a full-length game.

thanks for your input!

Great article!  I was actually thinking about this the other day.

When I'm dealing with clients I charge them for just about everything I do for them.  If they want just one small graphical change that's only going to take me 1 minute, I charge them for it.

Yet, here, I'll spend an hour helping somebody with their art work and I do it simply because 1) I enjoy it and 2) I want to help them out.

I expect nothing in return.  I do it because I love it.

Andail - As I extended an apology to Squinky I owe you one as well.

*Mandarb apologizes

I hope your break is productive and fruitful.  I downloaded and played your demo, which I thought was off to a really good start, though I couldn't admit that until now :P

Mandarb's Official Apology:
(posted in two threads)
To any that I offended with my actions in that past couple of days I would, following the example of Squinky and Andail, like to extend an apology.  I'm glad this was resolved so we can move forward with this community.

I was going to start my own thread, but ...  ;D

I'm sorry for over-reacting.
