Iqu - I think that's a good idea!  It would prevent multiple threads about cool sites and group them all together.

Squinky - Another noble veteran has started a thread against me, please take your off-topic posts into there.  At least then they'll be on-topic.

Whenever I use the Save, Load, or Inventory buttons on my GUI the Quit box comes up after I click.  For instance, if I click on an inventory item, once it's selected the inventory window goes away but the quit gui pops open.  I can't figure out why it's doing that.  I'm sure it's just a missing bracket or something.

This is the code I think is causing it:

function interface_click(int interface, int button) {
 if (interface == 1) {
   if (button == 4)   // see inventory
     InventoryScreen();
   else if (button == 5)    // save game
     Display("This feature is unavailable at this time");
     // SaveGameDialog();
   else if (button == 6)   // load game
     Display("This feature is unavailable at this time");
     // RestoreGameDialog();
   else if (button == 7)   // quit
     GUIOff(1);
     GUIOn(2);
     SetMouseCursor(6);
    // QuitGame(1);
 }  // end if interface 1

// InterFace 2

if (interface == 2) {
if (button == 1)
QuitGame(0);
else if (button == 2)
GUIOff(2);
SetCursorMode(1);
GUIOn(1);
}

}

Thanks for any help!

Couldn't this have been better handled with a PM?

And I get yelled at for making 'stupid' posts?

Stockley - you must actually really like what I have to say then.

Here are some more.  There is a lot of ASCII art out there ... I never realized.
More ASCII Movies

I like the second one better, because it's getting closer to looking more photorealistic.

The top looks more metallic (though still a little plasticy).

I think that the lack of reflection on the body of the battery is all that's missing.  If you can't do that in anim8tor you could try simulating it on the texture in whatever paint proggy you use.

Yet another off-topic post ... this time by a moderator.  Perhaps I should change my sig to "If you make off-topic posts, you're wasting your time"  Seems appropriate.

Dmitri - your last post confused me ;D  I found that Matrix link.

The ASCII Matrix
EDIT: Just enter the number 5 into the box.  I'm not sure what that's for, but that'll make it work.

Femme, TheDude, and Pumaman make some good points!

taryuu:
Thanks for the link!  It kind of takes some of the magic away from those images thinking they were done with a proggy but they're still darn cool.

GinnyW:
I would like to be bored and determined enough to accomplish something like that  ;D

Squinky:
I always state that what I'm saying is 'my opinion'.
I'm not going to apologize for having confidence in what I say/believe.
You've contributed 3 posts that have nothing to do with the topic.
"It dosen't change the fact that it was a dumb post..."  Was that just your opinion?  Or a statement that's 'beyond dispute'?
"and if you don't like that, don't respond. Simple logic dude."  Good!  You agree with me on this subject.  Perhaps you should heed the advice ... or contribute something on-topic.

QuoteOkay, but I'm not talking about insulting. I'm talking about evoking the specific emotional impact on the player, and it's really frustrating to know he/she might "laugh innocently" the very moment that the main character's mother dies a terrible death.

Well I guess at times it could get in the way.  Again, as long as it's not gibberish, I think the point will come across.

However, it's possible it could effect the emotional impact of the scene.

Dimitri - I can't seem to find that Matrix link.  I'll keep looking.   That's cool that Scummbuddy linked to the same site, I hadn't seen that yet!

QuoteSimple logic is that your an ass.
I'm an ass? Why?  Because you post something off topic and deragatory?  That makes me an ass?

Here's some more logic.  Just because you might think it's a stupid thread doesn't mean everybody else will.

Your responses (squinky and plastic) were, in my opinion, completely useless and unnecessary.

There was all that fuss in that other thread recently about posting useless shit and getting off topic.  Apparently it didn't do any good ... just like I said it wouldn't.

And I made no claim of ownership.  Nobody should 'assume' that I did.

It doesn't bother me really ... as long as I can still understand what's trying to be conveyed.

There are times when a mistake can be general humorous and cause me to laugh.  But, in knowing that the person isn't a native-speaker, I laugh innocently with no intention of insult.

I saw that Star Wars one too!  It was pretty sweet.  My brother also had one of the Matrix which was freekin' sweet.  I'll see about getting the link and I'll post it in here.

squinky - don't respond either.  It's simple logic.

I couldn't agree more w/ Nellie.  Just because something's was discussed 2 years ago doesn't mean that those of us who weren't here then shouldn't be allowed to discuss it now.

It may be something that's been discussed all over the internet, but not all of us post on 20 different forums.  Aside from this one I only post on theForce.net and it's certainly not a hot topic over there.

And if a topic is going to be locked because olbies and/or moderators think it's been discussed too much it would only be polite, and responsible, to point to the other thread that discussed the subject.  Rather than locking it with no explanation.

EDIT: And if another thread can't be found of the same topic, then it shouldn't be locked.

General Discussion / My career aspirations ...

I wanted to be a cartoonist up until about the 7th or 8th grade.  Then I realized I wanted to do special effects for movies.  I figured it would be a great job.  Millions would see my work, yet nobody would know who I was and I could retain my private life.

My job now sort of fits that mold.  Thousands see my work and don't know who I am.

But now that I'm all growns up I'd like to be ... a Pet Psychic.

General Discussion / the mp3 controversy ...
Sat 09/08/2003 21:36:50
Humbly edited out ...

What do you all think about the shit-storm of recent years about mp3 downloads?

Do you think the RIAA is justified?

Do you think they're (RIAA) just making things worse?

Do you download mp3?

Me personally, I have over 3500 mp3s on my secondary hard-drive.  I download like a mad man.  I was, up until about a year ago, still actively buying CDs.  Since the RIAA (and some artists) starting whining and making such a huge deal over this I stopped.

I go to a shit load of concerts which is, to my understanding, where the artist(s) get their money.  So screw the production companies and their capitalist greed.  I'm not giving them another cent until they a) lower prices of CDs or b) realize they're in the business of selling music and not selling CDs and get on board with mp3.

mp3 is here to stay!  Long live mp3!!

Please point me to another thread on this topic ... oh mighty one  :P

For a first attempt it's not bad at all.

I think the texture map is nice, but the bottom part looks like plastic and it should look more metallic.  And maybe make the main body of the battery a little more on the shiney side.

Character development is the key ... definately.

You must make sure there is a strong foundation to your character to start the game with.

The character must 'grow' as the game progresses so he/she 'developes' throughout.

I always liked that about (some) RPGs where you start off one way, and by the end you're the same, but better character because you've gained so much experience.  You're stronger, faster, smarter, etc.

You really get attached to characters like this, which, in my opinion, makes for a better game experience.

So I guess we've determined that the sex of the lead character doesn't matter?? ???

sigh ... to those bored with this off topic posting I apologize.

even -  My statement in that other thread had nothing to do with you.

I thought perhaps you had mis-read what I wrote, so I clarified.

I am not trying to 'gain leverage over you'
I am not 'trying to take advantage of this contraversial lapse in your reputation'
I am not 'trying to discredit you over time'.

I would ask that you extend the same courtesy to me.

I have no animosity towards you.  I can tell that we're two completely different people who have vastly differing views about most things.  To be completely honest, I rather enjoy our 'debates'.  I find them entertaining.

I appreciate you approaching this 'with maturity, without sarcasm, and just plain old reasoning'.  I guess I just don't see "Uncanny! You defy logic! Here's a trophy! Hypocrisy we shall call it." as any of that.
