General Discussion / Re: UK animation courses
Sun 25/09/2005 05:07:10
I am from the USA and am looking to study 2D, 3D, WhateverD animation in the UK  :o I performed reconnaissance work this summer (Okay, I only ogled Wolverhampton) but it was
one of the least happy days of my trip and I didn't get much of a feel for the school/area.
...
Okay so I really have nothing to say on this, but I am interested in following more leads since I seek congruent information. Anywhere UKish would be okay, just get me out of here!

C'mon Yufster and scotch, let's get classes together so we can make paper airplanes and pass notes to each other and post pictures of tuna beard on the blackboard  :D

Whee! I have a potential backpacking partner  :D

My plans, if I can seduce AGA into a 3rd week of July Wellies, were to take a 6-day backpackers tour of Scotland straight after Brittens, hang around Bayswater- London for a week, head for Paris for a few days before exploiting Portugal and riding bikes to the cotton candy stand with Brisby, and check out the champagñe en España for a bit before Mittens. Whew, six weeks in one sentence!1

Sorry I've been drinking  :-[

Spoiler
I think of a cerulean blue
[close]

I do the same for shapes. Sometimes if I see a square I will divide it into 3 pieces in my mind (one large and two small triangles) and assign it the number 3  :D.

...

I can't believe I just wrote that  :P.

Ibiza in August is a huge rave disco.

You think I would have a problem with this?  :P

*counts no votes*

Well damn, I guess I'll have to go some other time  :'(

I wouldn't mind spending some more time in Spain looking at the local culture and brushing up on my Spanish, so if anyone else plans on doing the same, let us try to organise something closer to the date.

Assuming I can arrange $3000 in the next 9.5 months (which I can), I'll be spending six weeks in Europe in which I plan to attend a few different places, pre-Mittens Spain included. We could totally ogle at the local culture and brush up on our Spanish  :D

If you're referring to this, the guy in the middle is AGA, but....

???

Hmm, I do believed we overlooked one important detail when deciding the best time to hold Mittens V based on price: the ferry tickets for the overnight in Ibiza  :D. Perhaps before we agree on a timeframe we should first research fares. It's too early to check August '06, but September may be comparable. Denia -> Ibiza on a Thursday morning with a return Friday night is â,¬120 for that month. The August fare should not be too much over this. Discuss!

Heya!  :D

Here's a birthday thread bumpetty-bump-bump to wish our lovable La "Lorena" Lore an extra feliz cumpleaños! Now let us all celebrate-

There we go. Happy birthday sister-friend!

If Mittens '06 is alleged to be the 4th week of August, I shall start hoping for a 3rd week of July Wellies. I'm in pre-production for a five-six week escapade throughout the UK, France, Portugal and Spain that I wish to bookend with Wellies and Mittens España.

I was just Grundislav and I swapping stories of getting caught in compromising situations to loosen scotch up for the telling. No dice.

What we did get: Scotch is being made to join any club of his choice. The offender is a female who is neither his mother nor a cop. Why he must join a club and who exactly is making him is still up in the air. :D

I would love to make all my socks exactly identical, but I'm lacking the funds right now.

All identical socks? What are you thinking? I could not do that, I fear it would subtract from my personality. I have all sorts- black to white, ankle bone to knee, casual to football. Different situations warrant different socks.

EDIT- My sig photo wouldn't work otherwise.

Hmm, are you sure wool is all that? I wouldn't know, that material bothers my skin. I shall stick to cottoney socks.

One thing about wool that may make or break it, is that it's a gateway material- you buy some wool, and it's the whole slippery slope. Next thing you know you're out shoplifting.

BTW, what was my quote deemed too embarrassing to post?  I don't recall having said anything terribly embarrassing...then again, I also don't recall doing my former avatar dance at Mittens...damn alcohol!

Okay, you win Grundislav, I will reveal.

The Amazing Mystery Quote is-TADA!:

'My mom caught me masturbating"- Grundislav

:o

You should be more carfeful! My sister almost caught me once, but I had a plan B. The trick is to have some sort of contingency plan in place.

Yep, that's 3. I will work on the extracty thing.

Yeah, Yeah, I know, enough with the owls.

the Americans, both really nice people even though I can't decide who dancest cooler.

Are you kidding? If you seriously don't know, I'm not telling  :P

Hint: the answer rhymes with "Bisco"

I suppose I've gotten a few quips in without adding anything of real substance, so here goes:

Aside from some travel issues to and from, the Greek adventure was most satisfying. From approaching CJ at Heathrow to saying goodbye to Petteri at Athens airport, plenty of special memories were collected and are being preserved. At first I thought it would be awkward meeting people from the forums, at least for the first few hours. This was not the case as I never had the feeling that I was meeting strangers.

The campsite was fine and the AGS Lounge provided excellent accomodation for 18 Mitteners to chat and play the 1000 blank cards. It was nice and even a little relaxing having a sort of agreed upon structure throughout the week. Everyday would begin with campy lunch, then a trip to the beach, AGS Lounge, going into the village for an hour and a half dinner, supply-securing at the market, looking for firewood for the inevitable beachy fire and upbeat shenanigans.

Apart for m0ds' list, I have my personal range of mentionables:

Highlights
Pre-Mittens meetup with Iqu
Pre-Mittens peeing on the sidewalk in front of Kensington Palace State Apartments
Sleeping on the beach, waking in time to see the sunrise
People(person)-drunk-on-ouzo watching
Ambitious wasps
Mild blasphemy at the Agora

Lowlights
2.5 days at Heathrow
Marmite
"28 euro, 28 euro, 28 euro..."
2.5 days at Athens airport

Quotes
(Pre-Mittens) "*mouths inaudibly*", "Can you sign my friend's shirt? He's American" and "This is London!" - Iqu
"__ ___ ______ __ __________" - Grundislav (too embarrassing)
"You all play like a bunch of drunk babies" - Andail

'Twas a spectacular week overall, though bookended by the true essence on horror (Only fly Swiss as a last resort). Looking back now it was quite fun- the British Airways strike led me to meeting a cool female from Yukon Territories, discovering the awesomeness that is Nate James, and meeting up with the brits a day sooner. Swiss cancelling my ticket home, however antipatico, spawned another interesting situation- My only choice to get home was to be on standby for a few days since all flights were full. I found one seat on a BA flight that would get me to London in time for my flight home, but it was about â,¬80 more than I had. Not to be put off, I utilised Athens airport's free internet, logged onto #ags and had SSH call 3,000 miles to my aunt who had to call my mom to tell her to put the required money in my account. I felt like I was organising a globally coordinated extraction from Greece! :D Hehe, sucks at first but if I had to do it over again I would.

To make a short story long, Mittens was neato.

EDIT- Here is my group photo-

I made it home finally! :D There are many photos to sort out for later but I have a few for now plus two videos (no sound).

The village by the campsite had much to offer, including a martial arts shop.

Apart from the group, Helm managed to appear quite waitstaffy.

Call it a draw- She won't blink but at least Petteri has pupils. Yeah, I went there.

VIDEOS!!
CJ failing at card-castle building 3.4 MB
Lorena massaging Scotch 2.5 MB

My schooling commonly ends in mid-April and starts again about September 1st (August 30th this year), so perhaps last week of June or first week of July can accomodate most people. Being in Spain, it will be cheaper for the westerners than this years Mittens no doubt.

As much as I want to go to Mittens next year, I think it might be too early to start discussing about it yet. I mean, Mittens 2005 just ended!

Yes, and I am not even home yet! Londonish at the moment. Please leave the discussions for '06 until everyone (i.e.- me) gets a chance to clear their head and reflect on the Mittens that just elapsed.
