Grim Fandango is one of my favourite games of all time, and the fact that someone hasn't heard of it DISGUSTS me to my VERY CORE. I HATE YOU.

(Hope you enjoy it, you're in for a treat! :))

:3

I'm gonna get a few of em and play em tonight. Grim is most likely gonna be on the list.

Thanks and I'm confused what do you mean?

I looked up how pripyat should be spelled and I forgot to draw the N the right way.

:)
Thanks for the kind words!

Np thank you.
Hey if you ever get bored I wouldn't mind having you draw a environment for me. I don't have much practice in the way of it.

I don't think I've ever heard of Grim Fandango I'll have to check it out.
What!? ...wait, just a sec...WHAT!?
We don't take kindly to people who don't know the adventure game works of Tim Schafer around these parts.

Just kidding, also check out Broken sword 1 and if you like that one play BS2 as well.

I'll check out grim fandango too.

Not REALLY an adventure game, and not really new or anything, but I recently played Bastion, and it has amazing narrative and story presentation :D.

That, and for old, Grim Fandango's inner monologue on his adventures was incredibly awesome and witty.

I rather did like bastion!

I don't think I've ever heard of Grim Fandango I'll have to check it out.

1: x2 2: x2 3: x2 4: High-res! x1!
1&2 are screenshot mockups based on loose ideas for a game, 3 is a remake of my old MAGS game, The Snow Queen, 4 is an attempt at 640x480 resolution, a background+some sprites.

NICE! The first one looks like a oil painting!
Second is cool, Third looks awesome I love the look of the three eyed guy (forgot what there called) and the 4th looks beautiful I'd use it as my wall paper if it didn't have characters in it :P (The charaters look great too!) Stuff like that is why I love pixel art.

Thanks nice call stuff like that bothers me, Just didn't notice I did that being English and all.

I think the main problem you're stumbling into is that, when you anthropomorphize the sprite, you're not exactly following how human hair 'works' so when you apply it it doesn't look right.  It's clear that you want short hair, but even people with short hair have hair all the way around the back to the base of their skull, and while your portrait image would indicate this is true, a few of the other angles do not reflect this at all, giving the hair a wig-like appearance.  To correct this, I made an edit that tries to approach the style and spirit of the portrait while adhering to 'humanistic' traits such as providing for a forehead and having the hair curve around to the base of the skull, like so:

1.  Redesigned the hair to look spiky like the reference image.
2.  Made the hair curve around to the base of the skull (neckline) in each frame.
3.  Cleared the hair upwards to reveal the forehead and give the eyes some distance and clarity from the hairline.
4.  Corrected posture issues in frames 3 and 4 where the legs were just too misaligned to maintain balance.

The posture issues I corrected are mainly because his leg was simply too far back on his body in frame 4 for him to have any hope of balance.  In frame 6, the positioning of the right leg just didn't match the angle of his torso.  Moving his left leg back a pixel or two (or making it larger) would further help with giving him a better sense of balance.

Hopefully this helps.

Wow looks great dude, Also nice call on the side view.
I'm sure the other guy will be super happy.

Btw thanks.

Well now that I think about I don't think there is a reason, I started out doing it that way for some reason haha.

Would I have to change my hotspots and walkable areas if I change resolution now?

Thanks for your comment, FritoMaster (Like the corn chips? If so, I might be able to challenge your masterdom. I too am a connoisseur.).

I've figured out what's off about the walk model for Felix, who is intended to have a cartoonish strut. The arm movements match (actually, they're not nearly as extreme) as the sorts of cycles I was drawing influence from, but the rest of the body does not move in the appropriately cartoonish way.

This is because I was influenced by a common walk cycle called the double bounce, of which, as you might guess, the double bounce is the essential part. Coincidentally, that's the part I've left out.

It's also the reason why I haven't checked in with a new walk cycle in awhile -- I'm redoing these again, and I think I'm moving to hand-drawing everything now that my lightbox and scanner are working. Unless I win the lottery and get a Cintiq sometime soon, hand drawn animation will be much quicker for me. This time I'm going to add the double bounce, and slightly more cartoonish anatomy (the way I'm drawing the character when he's not moving in other media).

Here's an example of a double bounce cycle:

...Perhaps that looks "gay" or "mentally retarded" to some of the more crass users here, but I honestly couldn't give less of a f#*k.

Honey BBQ or chili-cheese or original? :D
Anywho back on topic

I think it fits the character and I rather like the pixel version of him but I'm biased since I love that style and not a huge cartoon fan anymore.

I'd say keep doing what your doing and I'm sure once your done the animations will look even better.
