QuoteThis thread is full of delicious oldbie goodness.

Indeed. Even though I remember Davis, his avatar and his fight in DIGI-HELM I still don't feel like I am worthy to post in this thread.

So I won't.

In a stunning coincidence, my age is exactly the amount of years since I was born! 20.

I can't remember my first BG. It's probably lost in the big void of complete nothingness.
This is the oldest BG I still have on my computer.

What is a Photoshop Phriday?

Photoshopping isn't drawing a completely new image -- It's editing images to create a new image, such as editing one image or combining several images.

Also, you don't have to specifically use Photoshop -- Paint Shop Pro, MSPaint, or any other programs can be used.

See this link:
http://www.somethingawful.com/photoshop/

And for other examples, see here:
http://www.worth1000.com/

The two above websites should give a fair idea of what is involved.

Also, please make sure your image doesn't exceed the width of the screen.

So what is the topic this week?

Too much adventuring.

Let's face it, too much of anything can drive you insane. Imagine how hard it must be for all those characters in adventure games! They have to do the same things over and over again every time someone plays a game they're in! I'd go crazy after two days!

I want you to create some situations our beloved adventure game characters might find themselves in after having been pointed and clicked at a few times too many.

I'd give an example, but I have an English paper to write and Math homework to do. So there.

... and why doesn't 3d suit adventure games better than 2d?

In "fighty" games you control a character. In adventure games you control a character.

Same thing.

Ninja adventure gamers. Now that's a great combination.

I noticed something different about another site as well today. Hint: It's the one in my sig.

Whoops, for some reason I thought I wasn't supposed to judge it yet, and now I'm 2 days overdue!

Right, I liked them all. They were wonderfully nostalgic. But if I had to choose one winner (which I have to, because this is a contest after all), then I'd choose:

Ben!

Congratulations and celebrations, there's just something about that tune that sets it slightly above the other two entries (and just now I remember that I had a hard time choosing between your tune and Fuzzpilz' in a previous old-school themed compo I judged many moons ago, and I chose Fuzzpilz. So it's about time you win, I guess. :) ).

I won't go into any in-depth review of all the tunes, because the three reviews could be summarized in one word:

Awesome

Ok, so it's not exactly photographic evidence. I'll do a proper one later.

Critics' Lounge / Jazz experiment

I've been playing a bit with jazz-ish sounds and stuff, but I'm definitely no expert in the genre so I'd appreciate some comments on what I need to improve on.

This is a little improvisation thing I made for no specific purpose really (mainly just tried to get the sound somewhat decent). It is based on the opening guitar riff in the credit tune from Sam & Max (Pleasantly Understated Credit Sequence).

Some comments and hints on hove to improve would be much appreciated!

QuoteThe family of the teenager said he was gullible and easily manipulated.

Most redundant sentence ever.
#354
That'll do just fine, Ben. I'm not picky about looping. Great work. :)

(Also, remember that you don't have to use nostalgic instruments, you can do symphonic arrangements that sound just as old-school)

The problem with my game was that there was no challenge to it. It would have just been a matter of asking everybody about everything, and then checking whose stories didn't match. I must admit I didn't spend too much time planning it, I just love murder mystery games so I wanted to start working on one as soon as possible, heh. With a little planning I'm sure your idea will turn out beautiful.
#356
Thanks! The cymbal (and every other instrument used in this song) is from the Edirol HQ Orchestra VSTi.

I realize that by posting here, I will bump this one ahead of the current, on-going contest. How silly. Get to work, people!
#357
The sound doesn't matter. I'll be judging the melodies and overall feel of the tune rather than what instruments you use (or don't use).
#358
Victory is mine! Tune contest is yours!

Your task is to create a "travelling theme" for an old-schoolish fantasy RPG. You know, the "walking in the forest" kind of music. I even have an example to show you, it's a "cover" I made of the theme from the old C64 game "Wizardry". Click for inspiration.

The only restriction is that you must have fun. OBEY THE RESTRICTIONS!

#359
Heh. I started making a murder mystery game in AGS once. I got quite a bit of it done, before I realised how awfully boring my game was turning out to be.

Maybe it has something you could use in it. http://www.agagames.com/ghormak/murder.zip

This is indeed probably going to be Grundislav's magnum opus.

Aren't we forgetting something?

On a serious note: yay! Deliver the goods!
