Hints & Tips / Re: Donna: Avanger of Blood

wiseawl -- Thank you for the info.

Do you remember how did the game "crash" actualy when you saw police cars? This was a "game over" scene, like those when you get killed or whatever, should take you to the screen where you can undo, restart and quit.

If your saved game got corrupted, it's no problem, as your entering the shop saved your game automatically for the needs of the undo system.
1) in My Documents, find the folder Donna Avenger of Blood
2) make a copy of the file called "agssave.105"
3) rename the copy to "agssave.001" (or 002, or 003, or 004, or 005)
4) if you choose to restore game from the menu, the game with your position in the shop would be saved under the name "undo"

Sorry for that.

Hm, have you got the needed info from him? That is, who has the necklace now?
Have you been to the Feder Square?
Have you talked to Mulkin about the day's happenings?
If so, I don't know, really ;)
Would have to look at your saved game. If you want, you can send it to the address from the game's website.

Hi, I am really stuck right now.

(SPOILER)  I'm in the Bookery, and I've passed the first test. I'm on the second test and I understand the pattern and rules for the game. I can't figure out how to win, though. I know I need to reply with a philosopher whose name starts with W, but I don't know where to get that information. I've tried everything, and I can't figure out what to do. I've tried all three conversation options and they all mean I lose the game. (fuck you and uhmm were two options, if you were wondering which question I was on.) Can someone tell me what I need to do? Thanks.

Spoiler

As you could notice, they have problems with thinking about names starting with one letter. Try to pursue this weakness! :)

Take all of translated "Bander" numbers and use the cypher code in -\+ loop:
2-1=1, 1+2=4, 14-1=13, 4+2=6, 5-1=4, 17+1=18
Final code: 14146418.
Right? Well, wrong.

Spoiler

I seem to be in the same shoes as Urpney once was, and even though I'm more familiar with the English alphabet, I feel like I've hit a wall...

I've come up with 14136420 (the most obvious) and the reverse of the - + sequence seems to be 32152618 (if the numbers being negative has no bearing).  Then I tried using the Cifer key on the number/name(2 1 14 4 5 19) as if there were no longer any two digit numbers (2 1 1 4 4 5 1 9) which of course leaves the last two numbers with either nothing to change them, unless I loop back to the start of the cifer's first two numbers in order to fix them.  I tried both of these (starting with - and with +), and I think I converted everything back to letters as well, but its all wrong entry.
Now, if I do the looping cipher, I'm not sure how to turn over a number (namely the last one) past 9 if I'm just using 1 digit.  Should I carry the one or what?)

Math has a small threshold of fun for me, so I hope I'm not making it too complicated.

I don't even want to help this kid out anyway, not without more answers about who I'm hacking, I've got enough Euros;  but the plot demands I go on.

P.S. I also noticed that the cifer could be seen as three numbers (13 12 11) in an even decent...is this worth exploring?

Ah, I'm afraid my puzzle is too simple for your love for mathematics! :)

Thank you, linus!

But I don't think it's true what you say about life. It has to do with something in your head rather than outside circumstances. Where life interferred, I put the game away for 2 months, or half a year, and just returned to it later. Basically, I had a lot of fun making it -- I believe some people who make models their whole lifetime feel similar -- so there was no reason to quit something that makes me happy and doesn't kill me at the same time ;-)

Sure. You could also try hiding in your sister's closet  if the game's too difficult.

I can't play it and can't stop thinking about it at the same time.

I love the idea of the game, graphics, music, writing, yet I really don't want to go back to it.

It is, in my opinion, one of the best and most important adventure games / sims ever, and all the sorrier I am that something has gone wrong.

I think the idea behind the frustrating difficulty of gameplay is faulty.
You see, it is as if you wanted to teach someone about aggression being wrong by pounding him on the head with a baseball bat.

If you allowed the players to explore more on their pace, they would be moved by your superb writing and plot, and probably they would start thinking about ideology of success, people who have financial problems, etc. And as it is, playing Cart Life makes you angry -- not at the society, but at the game.

Of course, a simulator is a simulator, wanted to see how it is? Here you go. But I would love it much more if I could actually play it, not quit in frustration that once again I failed to pick up my girl from school; because Mel must live in her world, I don't.

These issues are, in a way, the issues of a player, not yourself. They don't change it how impressive is your project and how I admire you for making Cart Life.

I live by the Werner Herzog's words: awards are for dogs and horses, dear Buddha! :)

Thank you, I'm especially happy you've enjoyed it as you were the first person to find Donna's website long before the game went live.

Haha, thanks, mukk!

I'm happy to rekindle your nice memories with Milena's scooter.

I'm aware of the too-big-inventory annoyance you speak about, more items should disappear when you no longer need them, but I had so many things to do with the game before releasing it and I grew so impatient with it already that I never got around to improve the inventory issue. :(

I remember your username!

I can't recall your offenses, though, but I'll be damned if I'm going to forgive you.

The creation program is still a piece of shit; we're all here only to prevent CJ from realizing that and being sad.

Does Genesis have anything in common with A Man, A Star, A Fish and Vegetation? Genesis is a book of creation, telling you in which order the world was created.

Intercom - you must do something outside of the house first.

Have you tried smoking cigarettes and "thinking about" things?

An Urpney!

Spoiler

I can't argue with you about it, because I agree with your points! :)
I don't think Romero's so one-dimensional, though, because of his love for E. It was also an idea to create an anti-couple, a mirror to Donna-Milena. At the end the two couples stand in front of each other like a mirror image and one could even imagine a game in which the other two are protagonists.

Psychologically, you raise valid points as for the motivations; it's just that I believe there are two approaches to fiction: psychological one, based on how people really behave, and mythological one, in which characters stand for symbols or tropes if you will and psychological accuracy isn't so important as long as they illustrate some thesis or just provide fun. I mean, come on, my game's protagonist is a mad doctor - how more cliche can you get.
Of course, ideally a character should work on both levels -- psychological realism and symbolic quality, and I agree that Romero's not such a great character as far as psychological realism goes, but his unreturned affection for E. and - in a twisted way - valid concerns about the modern world make him interesting, at least for me ;-)

DONNA - no skipping

It WAS skipping like hell,  but then I made custom fade out - fade in transitions and it stopped. The skipping is cased by fades in&outs.
