Each time I stumble upon this thread (well, twice probably) I can't help thinking about this sketch:

Well, there is a pretty sad game about a lady who likes cats... But what was the title again... :P

Nescafe. Great coffee!

Oh man... :(

Read about it on Joystiq... Hope you can sort it out.

With some luck you might find this whole thing to be good promotion for the game- people who never heard of Wadjet Eye {or adventure games) will read these news on major gaming sites and feel inclined to check out your games (if someone would steal 30.000 copies of it it must be absolutely AMAZING)?... What I'm saying is, I really hope that this bad thing will turn into something good in the end.

I often do. It works really well, actually.

So... I checked what this podcast-thing is all about and listened to you guys for over 2 hours straight. It's like listening to a radio show but with cool topics, instead of the usuall boring radio stuff;)

Enjoyed it a lot!

Perfect for when you're tinkering with some backgrounds for a new game.

This could finally be the reason to try Unity! I wish there was a trial version, though... I don't really want to spend 70 bucks and find out that I can't work with Unity after all...

Would you consider a free trial?

I agree with most of what you're saying- there's a lot of shit games on Greenlight that kinda clutter it up... Then again, maybe it's just our personal opinions- most likely there are people out there who love their pizza-making simulators and collect-all-green-orbs-to-win-a-red-diamond kind of games and instead see adventure games as pointless clutter... But whatever, it's irrelevant. That's how they set it up, and rules are clear. I have to admit, it is cruel and often feels unfair, when subpar games sometimes get lots of media attention for whatever reasons, not always right, directing thousands of people to vote for them...

And yet, my point is, that if you were standing in the queue in the supermarket and suddenly some person pushed right past you and straight to the till, would you just accept that? 'Cos I'd be pretty pissed off, that's for sure.

Although, I do believe that once you've established yourself as a succesful game developer (like Dave) you shouldn't have to go through Greenlight again. Not sure how this sticks with my "supermarket queue" theory... ;) but maybe it's a bit like letting an old lady go through ahead of you?...

Sorry for raising an issue, though. I know you'll do well regardless:) Just wanted to voice my opinion on this due to personal experience with Greenlight, I think.

For all we know, Greenlight might not even exist in a few months time!;)

PS. And Dave, if you read this... sorry for comparing you to an old lady!;)

My ambition is to get the game on steam, which I think I'll be able to pull off, I've worked in the game industry for some time now and my gut feeling is that I know some guy who knows some guy. I may be overconfident though and the game might very well get stuck in greenlight hell and then primarily distributed through other channels.

I'd hate to think that this is how it's done... I really love how Kathy Rain is shaping up and it's actually one of my most anticipated AGS games at the moment... but having been through Greenlight Hell myself I'd find it terribly unfair that knowing a guy-who-knows-a-guy is the way to do it...

I'd learn LUA for this.

Sounds great, and I totally support all points Baron has mentioned earlier- rotation being one of my main pains in the butt since you could do so much with it...

Eagerly awaiting more news on this!;)

EDIT: And for the record, I don't think there's anything funny about trying to make a modern adventure game engine. As much as I love AGS, I find its limitations very frustrating and often wish it was... well, more modern;) Also, another Pumpkins' fan here!;)

General Discussion / Re: GTA V
Sat 14/09/2013 02:09:31
I got GTA IV the day it was released- I had it pre-ordered and all I had to do was walk to the local BlockBuster store to pick it up first thing in the morning. What a great day that was- girlfriend at work all day, me- curtains pulled shut, coffee and pizza on the table, I played for a good 8 hours...;)

It was a hell of a game!

Now, when I think about GTA V coming out soon, I imagine how different my gaming habits/circumstances are. My little son would sure love to watch daddy play a game about driving cool cars over innocent pedestrians and shooting guns and such, but there is no way I'm gonna let him see that. So that means I can't play in the daytime. Nightime? -I can already hear my girlfriend say: I wanna watch the TV. Turn it off.

Growing up brings certain problems...

BUT- I am still getting it. Maybe not on the release day, maybe I won't be on it any time I'd want to... But there's time for the family, and every now and then there's time just for me, too;) I guess there's nothign wrong with that. And yes, it will be a PS3 version, so I might look you up;)

Something especially for Grim :)

A man takes a well deserved four hour break... and then this happens;)

I would've totally got this one if it wasn't for my slow reflexes;)

As you see, there are many different ways to create something. Each way is good if it works for you;)

I played some of your games before. They might be far from perfect but one thing I never thought you lacked is originality, and that's a positive sign!;)
#277
In my experience the best ideas come when you get started- you make some backgrounds and you put your characters in there and the story just gets rolling all by itself. There's no need to write a 500 page script beforehand.

Coming up with a story is the best part of making a game!
Pfff, are you sure coming up with jump scares isn't the best? :P

Jumpscares?

I wouldn't know about such thing;)

Why don't you just sit down with a cup of coffee and think about ideas yourself?

Hey, Jim Walls sent me a friend request on Facebook! How cool is that?;)

I'm secretly hoping Ron Gilbert is next;)

Probably looking for some advice on how to make a game that doesn't suck :=

haha ;) I don't know if Police Quest games sucked or not, really. I remember playing one or two on Amiga when I was a kid, and they kinda fascinated me... But I was too young to understand them and the floppy disk loading times were brutal- I do recall playing with that "walk" cursor while waiting by moving it around and pretending to walk on the scenery... ;) So, I guess Police Quest was probably better on PC. Where you didn't have to wait half an hour for a screen to change.

But I read a long article about Jim Walls a few months back, and it's actually a pretty good story how he got involved into making games;) Now I'm looking at him, thinking: he's a seventy year old man, he's got this awesome white moustache, like Snake, and he's making a new game, about something he really likes. How cool is that? ;)

That's what I wanna do when I'm his age.
