General Discussion / Re: Wii
Mon 01/05/2006 20:02:03
You know what? The controller of the Wii compared to the controllers of the PS2 and XBOX is like in the days of the best computers just having a keyboard. Then the PCs came along with their snazzy mouses and hey presto! A star was born. This controller is my favorite thing about the Rev/Wii, just because it is so DIFFERENT. That's where the money is on this console. Their capitalising on the earliness off the 360 in comparason to the PS3, so, if I'm right, they'll release at about the same time. As gamers look at their slightly dusty 360's and wonder whether to grab a PS3 (because, basically, you'll be getting the same games on both.) Out comes this contraption. Gamers think "Hmm... it's cheaper than a PS3 and will have games I can't play on the other two, and the controller's different." It'll attract non-gamers by looking so different and out of the ordinary, so they'll be tempted to buy it. Parents will see all the nice, simplistic mario games (*dodges shoes thrown by angry audience*) and so they'll buy the console.

Nintendo are onto a winner here. And anyway, when you say stuff like "It'll only have mario games and stuff you can't play on other consoles." Look at games like Harvest Moon   and Timesplitters. Fantastic games, and you can usually only get them on Nintendo's consoles.

Yay for originality!  ;D

General Discussion / Dungeons And Dragons
Tue 18/04/2006 09:56:22
Dungeons and Dragons rocks. It has done for the last 15 years, ever since the original pen-and-paper system came out, to the delight of Monty Python-starved university students everywhere. Two films, two amazing game series (Neverwinter Nights and The Elder Scrolls/The Temple of Elemental Evil) , a tv show and an MMORPG later, I just have to ask...

How many people here actually play? Who do you play with? Any daft stories? Gimme details, people!

- Huw
PS: Other than NWN, I've never played any DnD game unfortunatly. I'm just being nosy.  :=

In responce to the remark about the Indy 3D game:

It cannot be worse than Indiana Jones and The Infernal Machine. That barely qualified as a game, and was an insult to the series. Also, 3D and block pushing puzzles isn't a bad thing for the series - look at BS: The Sleeping Dragon. It was by far the best commercial adventure game in the last... 5 years. I think.

EDIT: Of course, they could go down the shoot-em-up aspect. Again. Like LucasArt's CEO will tell you, it's all about marketing the game right, lining your pockets and getting the hell out of there.

I would think that the origins of the blue cup was obvious. CJ is, in fact,  a giant sentient shape-shifting computer coding mutant... he named the site after himself.
#206
If you want to make an RPG without going into a large amount of coding and graphic design and stuff, you could always use Neverwinter Nights engine, especially if you have both expansions etc. Very simple to use. Of course, it'd be kinda limited to those who didn't have the game... ah well.

PS: If this post reads like somebody half asleep wrote it, then that's probably because I have had FAR too much chocolate...  :P

Jazz might not be good, but at least the CD's are nice. *crunch*

Anywho, nice bargain Tuomas.

Well, first of all, try plugging it into the PS2 and try using the eye-toy on there. If it's clear on that, most likely you need to focus the camera whilst using it in the PC. If not... at least webcams arn't expensive.  ;D

Same here, which just goes to show how little I have to do when I spend half an hour getting the pointer exactly above my house.  :P

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY!!!

This is a pretty funny prank actually, it had me going for... six seconds.  := And FYI, Wintermute I *think* is a free 3D Adventure Game maker. You know it's fake because the bit unter the glowing "wintermuteengine" bit doesn't actually fit in.

Now, let's go find CJ and batter his skull out.  ;D

General Discussion / Re: I want to play an MMO

Oooookay.... *cracks fingers*

First of all, I'd recommend www.gameogre.com as they pretty much have details on EVERY Online RPG game going, and ratings. Lovely little site for those of you who can't stand searching for ages on Google.

Now onto the list!

Rich Gits:
World Of Warcraft: Disgusting game. Sure, it's great and all, until you encounter the leet speakers, noob callers, lamers who either do it because their around the mental age of four or because they hide behind AOL. Gives us honest AOLers a bad name  :P

EQ 2: Again. Ew.

Eve Online: Personal Favorite, godly game. Not only is the player base full of decent people (apparently one guy who got shot down got apologised to by the pirate!), it is just one of those games where you can shut it down and go off and do something else, come back and play again, and then you realise you've been playing it for three years. (I don't own the game though... *sniff*)

Poor gits:
Guild Wars: Probably the best "free" MMORPGs. It's not really free - obviously as you have to buy the game - but no monthly subscription is good for those on tight budgets.

Runescape: If you want a good starter MMORPG, try this. Lovely game, decent people, easy to play. Not only is is 100% free, it's premium service is £4 a month. Sooooo many quests, items and other assorted goodness that member (p2p'ers) characters usually look pretty darn unique.

Personally, I'd recommend RS if your looking for a standard RPG. If your looking for something a little different, EVE online is ace. If your one of those poor gits without BB (aka Me) their both still great as both EVE and RS rarely suffer from HUGE lag.

(By the way, how much you intending to pay a month? It'd help narrow the list...)

I found the floppy disk version of DOTT at one of my many local charity shops. £2. All floppy disks and the manual. God I love that game.  ;D

For the record, it's kinda paranoid to think everybody hates you.

And a better alternative to Rapidshare for movies is YouTube. (Google it cause I can't be arsed) Nice big thing with a great community. No download limits or anything!

And I don't hate you Flukebake. Sure, I remember the days when you were as annoying and childish as heck, but you've honestly matured whilst on these forums. Same here actually, but I'm so damn inactive (Damn RPG's! I WILL BEAT YOU ALL SOMEDAY!) that I've managed to avoid the repocussions of newbishness.

And for the record again, the above paragraph and several of the posts before me are off topic. I'm gonna go into minimod mode here and point this out.  :=

Seriously. I've seen some of you naysayers be ten times more childish than flukey here. And don't try and pass the buck either.

General Discussion / Re: Mohammed cartoons

Publish a cartoon of a political leader and people laugh.

Publish a cartoon of a religous leader and people get mad.

Publish a cartoon of the first religous leader of a faith that is renowned for justifying the deaths of at least 10,000 in the last 10 years, it's kind of obvious what's going to happen (refer to avatar).

Some people are really, really, really stupid.
Especially cartoonists.

That is possibly one of the most fantastic thing's I've heard since Chrismas. I've even got a new site to keep an eye on.  :P

Also, you can't go to that site without watching "Chutney". Anybody with a long attention span will love it!

America is pretty neat with some of it's laws. That small claims court one is a classic example.  I'm not so fantastic with the UK's laws, but you don't get the same "Piss off such and such and you'll be sorry", because I believe the Judge is a different role in Britain? So in actually the company's dealing with about 10 or so indifferent jury members...

Still a nice story. Congratulations to your wife!

Advice to do with money:
1) Take a holiday
2) Buy a new computer!

or, my personal evil preference:L

3)Hire a group of opera singers to go to their HQ and sing "Don't piss off the judge" to the boss.  :=

Critics' Lounge / Re: Discworld character C&C
Fri 13/01/2006 19:37:51
Seeing as I'm the only discworld "expert" here (All three games and some of the books) I'll give my best critism.

This is Vetenari right?  ;)

1) Mustache/Goatee is wonky. The two sides don't match.
2) In the original, and especially the coloured, he looks like a horse.
3) Again, his face just doesn't match up with each side.

As a rule, don't colour sketches. You pulled it off in the clothing, but his face looks like it's been scribbled in with shoddy crayons. The hair also lacks detail - It looks like a giant bit of brown fluff.
