Just finished the game tonight. Really, really, loved it. Some of my thoughts:
Spoiler

- The pacing is very fluid and consistent. I was stumped in just the right amounts, without any particular area taking me too long to figure out, and I didn't get that classic point-and-click frustration battle of stopping myself from googling a solution once.
- The church puzzle where you have to move the shelf right when the construction workers were making a lot of sound made me audibly go "Aha!" when I figured it out and I love moments like this.
- The audio noise reducer puzzle was the perfect amount of difficulty without needing too much intrusive instruction
- Vera's introspection was just the right amount of help without giving too much away. Bad point-and-click games tend to leave me with a "welp, what do I do next?" thought, but I didn't have this once and I think that's due to these self-talk instances
- The Stina twist was excellent! I didn't see it coming at all.

- I loved the ending.

- Music highlights for me was Alex's theme (A plus for me, so emotional!), and I loved the new piano line in the track that's played again over the graveyard scene.

Thanks all for the WoaM nominations!

Goes without saying, but if you think WoaM deserves to win a few of the awards, we'd appreciate your support with the votes! :)

I think "Best Debut" could be a cool way to help some of the talented newcomers on the scene get noticed and try to mitigate the issue with AGS veterans sweeping the awards, making things a bit one sided at times.

We could have a generous interpretation of the category, so if a developer isn't competing with the literal first AGS project they have made, it could still be applicable to their first full length game, their first commercial game, etc.

Making some kind of distinction between "Comedy" vs "Drama" and "Traditional Adventure" vs "Innovative/Experimental Adventure" could also be a way to get more diverse awards. In this year's lineup for example, it seems a bit like apples and oranges to compare a game like Whispers of a Machine to a game like Guard Duty. The two games are trying to do fundementally different things, and I wish that aspect could be expressed in the awards somehow.

QuoteWoaM has been nominated in SIX categories in the annual Aggie Awards! :-D

    Best Story
    Best Writing (Drama)
    Best Gameplay
    Best Concept
    Best Acting
    Best Traditional Adventure

Fingers crossed.

I finished the game this evening and enjoyed it very much.
Good looking, thought provoking and original. Just how I like my Clifftop and Faravid games

Footnote: I've played most of the game without noticing how different some puzzles could have been.
Only when I browsed a walkthrough did I realize the amount of work that went into it.

Thanks a lot! And yeah, the replayability is not super obvious until you try another path. Hopefully you feel encouraged to take it for another spin some time. :)

Whispers of a Machine

Whispers of a Machine is a Sci-Fi Nordic Noir that tells the story of Vera, a cybernetically augmented special agent tasked with investigating a string of murders.

These brutal killings obscure a sinister truth, as Vera soon finds ties to a group of fanatics committed to creating an AI superintelligence â€" a pursuit outlawed for nearly a century. Complicating things, a great loss from Vera's past comes back to haunt her, making her question her own sanity and everything she stands for.

As an agent of the Central Bureau, Vera is equipped with an advanced nano-substance called Blue. This rare and sought-after technology allows her to develop superhuman abilities adapted to her psychological mindset. Choose your playstyle and utilize these augmentations to investigate, gather information, and solve puzzles with multiple solutions.

Will Vera's unique blend of skills and intuition be enough to solve the case, or will she discover that things are more ambiguous than they seemed? In this emotionally gripping story with existential twists and multiple endings, Vera's actions will have monumental consequences not only for herself, but for all of humanity...

INVESTIGATION, AUGMENTED:
• Will Vera approach situations with a more empathetic, analytical, or assertive style? Your choices will impact her augmentations and subsequent puzzle solutions.

A POST-AI FUTURISTIC DYSTOPIA:
• Immerse yourself in a realized world of beautifully hand-drawn pixel art design and gorgeous settings influenced by the Nordics.

POINT-AND-CLICK INNOVATION:
• A groundbreaking entry to the point-and-click adventure game genre by the experienced developers of Kathy Rain and The Samaritan Paradox.

PROFESSIONALLY VOICED:
• 4,000+ lines of dialogue with full English voice acting, directed by Wadjet Eye Games' Dave Gilbert.

That was quite enjoyable.

Thank goodness for the walkthrough though.

You know you've played an excellent adventure game when you don't want it to end.  Sequel please!!

A sequel is unlikely, but thanks for playing!  :-D

Late congratulations on the release!

Just wanted to tell that Whispers of a Machine was reviewed in the new copy of Finnish gaming magazine "Pelit". It got 90 / 100, and a special recommendation. Kathy Rain was reviewed too in it, and it got 89, and the recommendation.

PS. I bought Kathy Rain from the sale, it's a great game!

Great news, and thanks for buying KR, super appreciated!  (laugh)

I completed it on android this weekend. It was fantastic! Really loved it. I guess there should be achievements? Because they didn't work on my tablet, but that doesn't bother me. Will definitely play it again sometime with alternative decisions.

Damn, the achievements are supposed to work! You were logged on to your Google Play Games account the entire time, right?

Thanks, guys! Things are looking good so far, people seem to be enjoying the game!  :-D

Four more hours until release, so I'll echo Andail's sentiment and take the opportunity to thank everyone too! It's been a wild ride, and we'll see you guys on the other side! :-D

I recently completed Kathy Rain and it was a fantastic experience.  My fiancé loved following along and helping out.  I really hope that this game will allow us a similar experience, and as far as I can tell from the trailer, it will.

Very excited.  Best of luck!

Awesome, glad you and your fiancé enjoyed it :) There are some similarities, so if you'd enjoy the change in setting and slightly more malleable protagonist, WoaM will be right up your alley!

Our publisher is looking into alternative storefronts at the moment, gog didn't accept Guard Duty sadly.

What the heck, that makes no sense. They've published a number of AGS games in the past  :-\ Did they give any explanation?

In any case, the game looks amazing :) Will 100% buy and play on launch!
